I purchased a new Citroën Berlingo from Vertu in mid 2025 and 6 months later Saga insurance called to say we cannot insure you further as we do not insure vans. Somewhat shocked, I called the dealer and was told not to worry and I received an email from them stating you are driving the car version of the Citroën Berlingo which i forwarded to the insurers. The email was rejected and Saga insisted the dvla classed my vehicle as a van despite having windows all round and 5 seats.
Saga did explain to me that this problem had been highlighted recently with certain Berlingos designated 130 max. Saga apologised for insuring my vehicle in the first place but could no longer provide cover once this problem came to light. The dealers made some efforts to rectify the situation and said they were not aware if this problem at any other Citroën dealerships.
After being told there was nothing they could do, the result was Vertu had sold me a van as a car and just left me to it.
I had to use it with restricted speed limits and insure it as a van. The dealer offered to buy the car back at 6 months old at a loss of over ten thousand pounds for their mistake. I also tried to contact Vertu's head office and speak the the CEO Robert Forrester to explain the tactics his sales operatives were operating but my efforts fell on deaf ears. I expect to take risks buying from a disreputable business, but buying a new vehicle from a main dealership and then be completely shafted is shocking.
Mr Forrester may enjoy the arrogance in knowing that he can sell vehicles to the public knowing full well, that when the poop hits the fan, he can just dismiss you with no consequences because the company is so large. I am a sole trader and take great pleasure in having the same customers for over thirty years without ever having to use advertising.
It's a shame that a large business such as Vertu operates in this manner and they could learn a lot from a smaller business regarding customer relations.
Lastly, as a family, we have purchased six vehicles from the branch in question over a 5 year period. I completely trusted Vertu but they certainly bit me on this one but never again. If you purchased a Citroën Berlingo from the end of 2024 to early 2026 please check your log book and make sure it says Car and not LGV. If it dies say LGV you will need to insure as a van and you will be restricted to 60mph on duel carriageways and other roads except motorways.
Don't give up if you end up in a battle with Vertu and it's taken 6 months for the Motor ombudsman to contact me to start the process. It's pretty certain that Vertu will win, but it at least gets it out there in public. Vertu's response is lame and I notice on here that you get a token reply from an agent concerned for your compliant to fool others into thinking they are on the case. I could not post this review earlier in the year because have been waiting for the Motor Ombudsman to agree to take the case on.

I started my quest to buy a Citroen eC5 Aircross in November 2025. I placed an order with Evans Halshaw in Bedford, and was let down badly by them and the delivery of the car was put back to July of this year. I approached Vertu Northampton and was in contact with Shayne, one of their very friendly and knowledgeable sales personnel. Nothing in life is perfect. But I value a company that goes above and beyond to fix issues that arise. Vertu Northampton is that kind of company.
I would highlight Chloe, Matt and Ameet all in the sales dept. It takes people like these to take a car company from ordinary to outstanding.
I would highly recommend buying from them.
I wish they were local to us, so that we could see what the service dept is like. My assumption would be it matches the sales dept.
We were buying at a distance.

I really recommend Nissan. Charlie is so nice and easy to talk too, he is very informative and knowledgeable. I was kept informed and everything was explained for my mobility car. A big Thank you for all your help.

We were made to feel very welcome, Andy explained everything to us, and had no problem with going back over any questions that I didn’t get, nothing was to much trouble for him. I do feel a bit lost when going into some places but needn’t have worried here, they are very welcoming and friendly,. I recommend this Vertu motors

Friendly and approachable, not pushy, quick to answer questions. For me knowing your product is essential. Kwame my sales person was very good. The finance person Jamal great too! From walking in on the Wednesday to picking car up in the Friday can’t fault the service.

What really made the experience stand out, though, was the customer service. A special mention has to go to Charlie Racklyeft, who was absolutely brilliant from start to finish. He was professional, friendly, and genuinely invested in making sure everything went smoothly for us.
Nothing was too much trouble, and the whole process felt easy and stress-free thanks to Charlie’s support and communication throughout.
Highly recommend both the vehicle and the team – a great experience all round!
