I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY.
I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY.
Based on my own personal experience, I cannot in good conscience recommend David McKay Publication, World Publishing Company, or their affiliated marketing company.
What began as publishing, website, and marketing services turned into months of missed deadlines, conflicting information, website problems, inaccessible or incomplete project files, and repeated promises that things had been completed when they had not.
My agreement was for a revamp of my existing website. It was not supposed to be moved from my existing hosting/server environment into one controlled by the company. That created ongoing problems with access, hosting, email, SSL, domain control, and my ability to independently use and publish through my own website.
I also had an established social media following before hiring this company. During refund negotiations, I was told that if I insisted on a full refund, work could be reversed, including website/hosting transfer, project files, and followers. I found that extremely troubling, particularly because many of those followers were already mine before this company was ever involved.
I paid substantial amounts for these services and also incurred additional costs because of defective books. I later agreed to a compromise reimbursement. The company has made a partial payment, which I appreciate, but a remaining balance is still owed and the matter is not fully resolved.
I am also still waiting for complete, permanent, accessible copies of my project files and intellectual property, including editable/source versions rather than only flattened or finished files. Temporary download links that expire and files that cannot be opened do not constitute a complete transfer of my work.
I have spent an enormous amount of time trying to resolve these issues directly, allowing repeated extensions and opportunities for correction. Communication has often been delayed, sometimes by days or longer, and I have repeatedly had to follow up on matters I was told had already been handled.
I am not posting this lightly. I gave this company many opportunities to correct the problems before speaking publicly.
At this point, however, I believe potential authors and clients deserve to know about my experience before deciding whether to do business with them.
My experience has been exhausting, costly, and deeply disappointing, and the matter remains unresolved.
