Very disappointing experience with A1…

Very disappointing experience with A1 Taxis.

We booked a return airport transfer from St Albans to Luton Airport for six passengers at a cost of £114, 9 days in advance of travelling, specifically selecting and confirming the Luton Express Drop-Off/Pick-Up Zone during the booking process. This option was clearly available on A1 Taxis’ website and was included in my booking confirmation.

This was particularly important because I was travelling with a significant knee injury, using crutches and a knee brace, alongside my wife, two young children, elderly parents and multiple pieces of luggage. I would have been happy to pay more for the convenience of being dropped closer to the terminal, which is exactly why we selected the Express Zone option that A1 Taxis advertises on its website.

Despite this, on both the outbound and return journeys we were dropped off and picked up from the standard area rather than the Express Zone we had booked. When I queried this with the driver, I was simply told that there was nowhere else they could drop us.

The result was that I had to walk a considerable distance on crutches while helping manage luggage and supporting my family. The return journey in the early hours of the morning was equally inconvenient.

What disappointed me most, however, was not the mistake itself but the way the complaint was handled afterwards.

I contacted customer services to understand why an option was being advertised and confirmed if the company was unable to provide it. Rather than receiving an apology or acknowledgement, I was met with a defensive and dismissive attitude throughout multiple emails and conversations.

The representative dealing with the complaint, Hamid, showed little interest in understanding the issue or addressing the concern being raised. At no point did I receive a genuine apology, acknowledgement that the booking had not been fulfilled as advertised, or any reassurance that steps would be taken to prevent other customers from experiencing the same problem.

A refund of £7 per journey was offered, which suggested some recognition that the service provided did not match the booking. However, after I supplied my bank details as requested, the refund was never processed and my email was simply ignored.

My concern was never really about money. It was about honesty, accountability and customer service. If a company cannot access the Express Zone, then it should not be offered as a selectable option on the website, as this misleads customers into believing they are booking a service that will take them closer to the terminal. As a minimum, customers should be informed clearly before travelling.

Mistakes happen. What matters is how a company responds when they are brought to its attention. Unfortunately, in this case, A1 Taxis demonstrated poor communication, poor customer service and a complete lack of accountability.

Based on this experience, I would not use them again for airport transfers and would struggle to recommend them to others.

A1 taxis and driver 59

Driver 59 has been taking my partner and I to and from the Royal free hospital for the last 10 weeks. He has been excellent, always on time, we have never been late for an appointment. The car is very comfortable and he is a very safe and professional driver. I wouldn't use any other taxi company and I always recommend them to my friends. It has been a very good experience for us both

Airport booking

I booked a taxi to take me to airport & collect. I filled out the form online & received a email confirmation not long affer. They arrived early & u get so many text messages with car registration & driver number. I honestly recommend this company & I will definitely book again. Thank you A1.

Very poor experience with St Albans…

Very poor experience with St Albans branch
Booked a cab online to fetch us from Heathrow on a Sunday evening after a 12 hour flight…..no taxi appeared and we had to get an Uber
Apparently the company sent the cab on the wrong date…v careless
This happened about three weeks ago….we are still waiting for an apology and for our £65 to be refunded
