We are an independent group who have been caring for eyes for over 68 years. Established in 1957 by Frank Barraclough in St. Leonards and later joined by Peter Stiles, we gained a reputation founded on expertise combined with a kind and helpful manner.
Investing in the latest technology and equipment such as OCT imaging and Optomap® retinal scanning and keeping the practices modern and up to date has all helped in passing the 65 year milestone.
However, a significant contribution has been made by the people working in the company and a large proportion of our staff have been with us for many years enabling them to build excellent relationships with our clients. We're proud of the solid reputation we have built up over the years and will continue to deliver the very best possible service when it comes to eye care and customer care.

Outstanding service!
Ritz was absolutely lovely – she really looked after me and explained everything so clearly. The lady who helped me choose my glasses was also wonderful; she made me feel completely comfortable throughout. I left feeling really happy to have everything sorted, and I’m looking forward to receiving my new glasses. Thank you for such a fantastic service!

A treat, not a chore
I only interacted with Sam and Weronika but both were charming, knowledgeable and friendly.Every part of my visit was explained and I came aware positively pampered!

Excellent service
I always feel I am being treated as an individual rather than the next person on a conveyer belt. I have a lot of confidence in all staff members. I trust the information and advice I am given. This has not been my experience at other larger chains of opticians. I therefore choose to use Barracloughs for their excellent customer service and not just because it is local.

Terrible service. They took three attempts to get right the prescription and fit of my new contact lenses and they are still not right.
