Buying new walking boots
Visited my local branch today to purchase new walking boots. The customer service given by Mark and Ollie was outstanding. Nothing was too much trouble and they were very knowledgeable about the various brands

My wife purchased a pair of walking boots at the Newport store today. Not an easy choice, given the large selection in store. She tried on a number of boots, before deciding on the right pair for her. Thank you to Fay for her patience and help, allowing my wife to try on many pairs.

Great staff… but lack of info
Firstly I would say the staff at the Newport store we’re very helpful and personable.
What I was surprised about was the lack of information on the technical specifications on waterproofs. Having decided we needed lightweight waterproofs with a minimum 15,000mm spec very few of the garments showed the detail for either waterproof or breatheability. So you’re left trying to compare without any info. Nearby Trespass had labels for every single one of their waterproof jackets and trousers with these specs. I would have expected better from a “specialist” shop.

Aside from being extremely satisfied with the customer service and my experience in Blacks today, Mark, was exceptionally helpful and aided us in exactly what we needed. Nothing was too much trouble and he went out of his way to get the items for us. If you go to Blacks, ask for Mark. You won’t get a better person. Knows what he’s talking about :)
