Pain management chesterfield

I have been under pain management for many years at Chesterfield. I have gone from 4 treatments a year to being told 1 treatment a year, not because my condition has changed but because of the volume of people they are taking on that they cannot cope with. Rang today as it’s now been a year since my last treatment that is desperately needed, to now be told that it’s now 18 months between appointments. How on earth is that good practice? treatments don’t last 18 months and need continuity to work. Yet still they take on more and more patients. I get that there are new people needing treatments but if you cannot manage and treat the patients that you already have and who’s treatments are now being pushed further and further back to accommodate these new people how is that setting any form of standard or care for the future? Pain isn’t something that waits 18 months for you to get down a back log of new patients, it’s something that requires treatment to allow you the quality of life to be able to continue to work and to function. The system that chesterfield have is not working and accepting more and more patients is putting people such as myself at high risk of being unable to continue to work and have any form of meaningful life. With the government now pushing disabled people to work and wanting to take their benefits away, now more than ever people need the treatments they have been having to continue to function in a society that is constantly telling us that we are all nothing but scroungers. Do better chesterfield pain management or look at how you can improve your system because this is simply not working, not for the established patients and not for the new ones either. All you have created is a lottery of who gets what treatment and when.

Bad treatment

Well the after care from ent surgery is shocking no one can be bothered to see you. Disgusting Then not only that. A consultant told me it’s was my sleep apnea rather than I could not breath through my nose for 7 year. Then going to the e n t dept for 4 years. Then I was discharge. Then had to have an operation in my nose. Reconstructive surgery. The trouble is they cover for one another.

MY 7th HOSPITAL ADMISSION 06/07/2026 - 22/07/2026

1. Food at times were inedible, just a mismatch of things only the Chef knows what's in it;
2. Staff - Doctors and Nursing Staff, I felt ignored as treatment and care were seemingly a long line of a production line, felt that my request for treatment after an asthma attack were ignored, not a single Doctor had used a Stethoscope to listen to my chest, although I had approached a Doctor on the Corridor typing his reports on the Computer, said he'll see me later to listen to my chest, never happened; at 19:30 PM I asked the Night Carer for a Night Drainage Bag, he said he was busy pointing to the paper works he was trying to complete, at 22:00 PM the Night Carer appeared I asked him again for a Night Drainage Bag, followed by a Night Staff Nurse, the Carer just pointed his fingers at the Staff Nurse who deliberately "LIED"
to me saying that they don't have Night Drainage Bag so I asked for another Day Leg Drainage Bag to attached to my existing Day Leg Drainage Bag, she said I should drain it, but the Leg Bag fills up in less than 2 hours, she just disappeared and in less than 5 minutes she reappeared and gave me a Night Drainage Bag, this was after only a very loud heated argument in Bay 3 disturbing 1 patient across my bed, I have to admit "I COMPLETELY LOST MY TEMPER". To make matters worst there was a patient near the window who needed "end of life care" surrounded by 3 ladies of his Family and they certainly heard me arguing with the Staff Nurse; some Staff were as late as 23:00 PM before I get my Night Medications;
3. Other members of staff were so polite, cheerful and so compassionately doing their jobs to best of their abilities, thanks to them it made up my 7th admission in hospital since 2023 which was my first admission after dodging the bullet in 49 years after 52 years of living in the UK, 37 years of which were dedicated working in the NHS.

Pain Clinic (Chesterfield)

Pain Clinic (Chesterfield)

I accompanied my husband today to the pain clinic (16/04/2026). I really didn’t know what to expect, but oh my goodness what a positive experience - I felt compelled to write this review!

The Dr and nurses ‘listened’ and were extremely thorough in going through my husband’s complex medical history. Importantly, we didn’t feel rushed and we now have hope with what has been proposed.

Admin staff friendly too!

Do not go here for any treatment

They don't even deserve 1 star but I couldn'tdo it as zero! Awful service. They look at you and talk to you like you are nothing. They don't speak to you with respect or any means of care. Regardless of your situation, if you've touched a bit of alcohol they automatically treat you like rubbish. My mum went in with suspected broken/fractured rib, she was in agony, I asked if she could lie somewhere, they asked if she'd had a drink and because I said yes they spoke down to me, told me no and said she would have to deal with it. They gave her an xray which was in the wrong place, took over 2 hours to give us the results then when I saw it it was not even in the right place and wasn't clear, it didn't even show her ribs. We got sent home and told it would sort itself out. Since then she's been struggling to get out of bed and in a lot of pain, she went back to Calow today after visiting our urgent treatment center who advised she went back. They did a CT scan and have actually found she's fractured 3 ribs and has punchered the protective lining around her lung causing a pocket of blood to form. Should they have done the correct tests/scans they would have noticed this and drained it. She's been sent home again and advised it will heal on its own but to try breathing exercises. Overall it's been a terrible service, they don't care about the patients and they don't put the patient first. This isn't the first time they've provided a bad service, bad isn't even the word for them. I've lost my father in law and an old friend to their recklessness, they shouldn't be able to carry on. I know I will never go here for anything ever again as I do NOT trust them

I underwent a procedure to insert a drain in my bile duct …

I underwent a procedure to insert a drain in my gallbladder , I was wide awake little or no anesthetic was used nor any sedatives , a steel rod was pushed into my abdomen and between my 1st and 2nd rib through my liver and into my bile duct to insert a drain , I WAS SCREAMING IN UNBELEIVABLE PAIN , no pain relief was given me, my blood pressure nor my heart rate and oxygen saturation were monitered as per NHS instructions , 3rd world treatment an utter disgrace .

Ridgeway ward staff are outstanding

I had a 4 day stay at Ridgeway ward. Without exception, the staff were unfailingly kind, professional and very caring. I personally witnessed them deal with shocking patient verbal abuse and they said it happens all the time. These professionals are over worked, underpaid and yet showed me compassion, understanding and gave outstanding medical care during my stay. I was deeply impressed and wish that more people could take the time to write positive reviews for these deserving staff. I want to thank them, everyone from the nurses, consultants, doctors, health care workers, cleaners and housekeeper for looking after me so brilliantly. I was cherished during a challenging time.

If you have to come here God help you

This place is appalling, truly disgusting, the staff couldn’t care less, the doctors are arrogant beyond belief, the food is diabolical, not a single positive thing to say about Chesterfield Royal,
The treatment over three days of my elderly mother was akin to that of a POW camp.. despicable and this place should be ashamed

E.D at Chesterfield Royal Hospital atrocious waiting

I'm currently waiting in the emergency department as I write this with my son with anxiety and sensory problems. We have now been here 6 hours and it's 3.30am. I have asked the receptionist several times how much longer and it could be 6am before he is seen. I have explained about his anxiety etc to the receptionist but nothing was done to help. He had an xray over 5 hours ago on his ankle and is in extreme pain yet we're still waiting and he's getting more anxious and upset. I thought this new department was supposed to be quicker to get treated than the old one, yet this is the longest I have had to wait for treatment. Very poor. We have now been here 8 hours and just found out only a few doctors are on and one of them was moaning about patients. Sons anxiety and sensory issues are getting worse and he's so overwhelmed.

Mohamed Magdy Was a disaster

Our experience was profoundly disappointing, primarily due to the unprofessional conduct of an individual named Mohamed Magdy (Mohamed Abdelghany). His demeanor was consistently impolite and dismissive, which created an uncomfortable and negative atmosphere from the outset. The lack of professionalism and basic courtesy demonstrated was unacceptable and fell far short of any reasonable standard of customer service. We feel compelled to share this feedback, as his behavior single-handedly ruined what should have been an enjoyable experience. It is with sincere regret that we cannot recommend this Hospital service based on this interaction.

Absolutely Disgusting

Absolutely Disgusting behaviour from a so called doctor hassan alraee and a so called paramedic who they couldn't be bothered to find out who was, laughing, mocking and making fun of mental health, someone tried to end their life and those two DISGUSTING, DISGRACEFUL idiots thought it was funny. They should have been sacked on the spot. Adding to my complex ptsd. Extremely unhygienic, blood on the floor, more Disgraceful behaviour from nurses just standing about chatting when an eldery lady pressed her buzzer several times as she was going to soil herself, they didnt care, just carried on talking crap. She soiled herself which could have been easily avoided if the nurses did their job instead of just standing chatting about rubbish. DISGUSTING. They need training about mental health and common sense, as they have NONE. An absolute Disgrace from the national Hell service. This happened on 23/07/23 but the calendar wouldn't go back that far, so the date of experience is wrong.

Absolutely delightful hospital

Absolutely delightful hospital. Pleasant atmosphere, short waiting times and lovely, relaxed staff. The signage could do with an upgrade but there's plenty of folk more than happy to point you in the right direction. All in all, a pleasant trip out.
