I found Damp Detectives when I was looking for a surveyor to find the causes of damp and mould in my rented flat. I came across Scott’s reviews and saw that he had investigated the floors of a property as part of his survey. Which is exactly what I needed.

I contacted Scott and explained all the issues that I was having at the property. He knew exactly what needed to be done and after choosing what type of report I wanted I booked.

Scott arrived promptly on the date arranged and carried out a thorough survey. The report was informative, clear and concise and I would highly recommend booking with him.

Am I really the only one who feels less than bowled over by the Damp Detectives? Response to my initial contact was prompt and, encouraged by the assurance that the survey would be very thorough (even promising to crawl under the floor space if necessary) I agreed to part with £450 hoping for some final clarification of the sources of some of the various ongoing damp issues in my Victorian end of terrace. Andy arrived (I even had to pay his parking) and did spend 2.5 hours using a couple of meters to confirm that the walls and floors were indeed damp and mainly suggested I install extra air bricks to improve the sub floor ventilation. I expected a full detailed written report (as promised) with further solutions within a week or so but, despite my chasing up, I have still not received this four weeks later. This is of course a franchise and the franchiser will get a significant portion of the fee but I certainly don't feel I've had value for money. Others seem to feel differently but on my experience, I wouldn't be able to recommend the Damp Detectives.

Instead of nearly parting ways with £3k to have the house injected with DPC following the ‘advice’ of a big surveyor/DPC company, I’m very glad to have discovered damp detectives - an independent business who are not looking to make money out of you.

David and Denise in the Preston area were extremely helpful, answering my questions patiently prior to the survey. When they came round they were very thorough and explained everything as they went through it. Their advice and expertise has saved me from sending money down the drain with another DPC that would not have addressed the underlying issues affecting the property and been useless.

It is definitely worth spending a little bit on an independent survey rather than getting a ‘free’ survey through a company who end up advising you to spend a fortune on their services.

I really wanted an independent report on possible damp after a Homebuyer's Report. Damp Detectives were so helpful in a few ways. First, Paul Town was unable to do a report quickly, but put me in touch with Scott, who was extremely helpful and tried to fit me in, but had little availability. Finally, Paul put me in touch with Tim Platt, who very kindly drove a fair distance to do a report the very next day, which I really appreciated as we are looking to make a quick purchase. All three were extremely helpful and professional, and thanks in particular to Tim for going above and beyond and then providing me with a very helpful, detailed and honest report.

We'd been experiencing damp problems in one corner of a spare bedroom for months, without any obvious cause. We decided a damp survey might be the way forward, and Damp Detectives were very approachable and responsive. We were able to choose between verbal, emailed summary or full written report. The surveyor who visited was very pleasant and friendly as well as thorough. She talked us through everything she was doing, then later explained all her findings very clearly. She made specific recommendations which we could easily implement, and followed up the survey a couple of days later with an emailed summary report which was also very clear and concise. Having the survey has enabled us to tackle the issues based on sound practical advice, it's been really useful.

Used the services of Tim (Salisbury Area) twice now on properties we were trying to buy. He was prompt to inspect, provided bullet points prior to receiving a very comprehensive. He also made himself available by phone to answer any further queries. He has probably saved us £££'s with sound sensible advice to remedy the damp/timber issues. I called the damp detectives after I started experiencing health issues and I suspected it was due to a mold issue in my home. The man came round and checked my house and told me that it was one of the driest houses he’d ever been in and it would be very surprised if any there was any mold growth in the house at all. I was sceptical about this but he said they did air tests which I assumed tested for mold spores. The air test came back and unfortunately had only measure VOCs in the house not mold specifically. On the report it stated that there may be active mold growing in the house but it was below the amount found in most homes and normal environments. This put my mind to rest and I stayed in the house for a further 6 months during which time my symptoms got progressively worse. I started seeing a practitioner who also believe that my issue was mold and I took a mycotoxin test which came back positive for ochratoxin a in my urine which is a toxicity caused by a type of mold. I then had another company come out who found extensive levels of mold in my house and my air was found to have 3,000 mold spores. Damp detectives not only took £650 of my money to tell me absolutely nothing of vaule but they also cost me a further 6 months of exposure in a house that was making me incredibly ill. I email the man to complain about this and never even got a response. I would avoid this company at all costs.

We’re first-time buyers, had a level 2 survey on a property that suggested we get a damp survey. Rather than getting a free survey by a company that will likely try and sell their damp-proof services, we wanted an independent company to get a reliable idea of what work is actually needed.

We reached out to Evie who was very quick to respond to emails and provided lots of info about the process. Evie quickly booked the survey with the seller’s estate agents and Jamie carried out the survey the following week. Jamie called to give a general overview which was really helpful and was happy to answer questions then and going forward, and the full written report was with us in just a few days. The report was really detailed (including good photos of chimney, gutters etc) and suggested what work would need to be done to fix any damp issues.
