Dobbies Garden Centres - Dundee Avis 290

Good to get some discount for my plants but a staff member didn’t mention the 30 day trial period when asked about the advantage card.

Travelling a long way to visit the Garden Centre so needed to know the online information was corrects I tried phoning. I stayed on the phone for more than 5 minutes with no answer so I redialled trying the other options eg restaurant .No one answer after 10 minutes .
Needless to say I shall take mu business else where.

Morgan,Calum and Debra helped me today smiling and happy creating a happy atmosphere.
Great selection of beautiful plants instore and outside.Plant area looking well stocked and so tidy Diane and Mallgochata looking after all the plants .A huge range of small mini plug plants inside all so beautiful set out .

We booked Breakfast with Santa at Dobbies, but our 3 year-old became seriously unwell after routine childhood immunisations the day before. She was ill all through the night and into the day of the booking.

We responsibly chose not to take her and contacted the store to ask if we could rebook or transfer to another Santa experience. We weren’t even asking for a refund initially — just some flexibility.

The response was that because we informed them on the same day, they would not refund or offer any alternative. No compassion. No discretion. Just “sorry for the disappointment.”

This was a medical situation involving a sick toddler, not a change of mind. The lack of understanding and basic humanity shown has been shocking. We are now completely out of pocket and our child missed a special Christmas experience through no fault of her own.

I would strongly advise parents to think twice before booking — if your child becomes ill, you will lose your money regardless.

A disappointing visit to the restaurant this afternoon. Tables left dirty and uncleared. At least half a dozen staff looking either bored or completely overwhelmed. The cashier was more interested in checking her phone. They clearly need training / supervision / motivation to improve their customer service. Will not be back.

Today, in Dobbies Dundee cafe, I paid £15 for the most abysmal excuse for fish and chips I've ever had. It was a new low in the food served in the restaurant. The fish was triangle of what I assume was frozen fish, the chips were dry and the mushy peas were just liquid. There wasn't even any tartare sauce. It's time whoever is in charge of the kitchen had a wake up call. Any resemblance between the picture of fish and chips ( the real deal) and that mess was purely coincidental. NOT good enough for the price charged.

A nightmare to put the Arlo sofa set together.
The garden furniture was delivered correctly but each part was not labelled as directed on theinstructions. Out of 5 parts only one was labelled “C.” The positioning of the holes for the nuts and bolts were in a very awkward places which meant my husband who has lots of patience couldn’t get even an eighth of a turn on the bolts. It was also back breaking so have a small stool available to rest on. The furniture appears to be solid enough and as on the catalogue picture but if you are not patient or have no experience of building up furniture I would recommend a handy man to put this together for you. 1/10 for putting together. I thought this furniture came ready assembled when purchased from Dobbies. The salesperson was completely fine but not the experience of putting the furniture together.

Terrible non existent service at Dobbies Monifieth this afternoon. Went to the cafe for lunch, and waited over 10 to 15 minutes at the server to be acknowledged by the staff who totally ignored us. The queue in front had almost cleared the tills and still the staff just passed us and continued to ignore us, making sure they did not give ant eye contact or even an apology for leaving us waiting. As a good customer of Dobbies for 24 years l couldn't believe how rude they were. Went back down to the customer service desk and explained to the lovely helpful lady who at once said she would get a manager to see us. She asked on the tannoy three times for a manager but nobody acknowledged her either. Once a manager, Mark, finally talked to her over the phone he was too busy to come down.! Will not be using Dobbies again, and would recommend nobody else does either. The cafe was not even busy, probably because other customers were subjected to the same ignorance. Fuming! Have cut up my Dobbies card, will not be renewing my membership, the establishment has totally gone to the pits.

Purchased garden furniture set and received the table the following week ( no chairs) after several phone calls to customer services all they did was issue a case number after a further 3 weeks contacted dobbies monifieth store for a refund, their employee Carlo took charge and managed to secure delivery of our chairs, we feel that their customer services were not interested and Carlo went above and beyond to help

We needed advice on which shrub to choose to fill a gap in our garden. My husband, looking lost, came upon Kevin whose advice and friendliness were invaluable. At no point were we made to feel like hopeless twits and came home with the perfect shrub, plus clear instructions on how to care for it. Many thanks, Kevin.

So Disappointing - Complaint

My friend and I visited the store today. We had placed two boxes of bakery goods behind the front desk, the female assistant taped these up as we had asked they be kept there until we purchased our gardening goods.
On our return one of the boxes of goods was no longer there.
The gentleman, who was now serving at the desk, was extremely unhelpful, sarcastic and rude. He confirmed the female assistant, who had served us, was at lunch but made it very clear he was not interested in our situation. His customer care skills were non existent and no offer of apology was forthcoming.

We are upset and this situation has affected our afternoon.

We have called the store 7 times over the afternoon to discuss this with management to agree a plan to ensure there is learning from this situation but there has been no answer from any phone extension.

Can we ask that the manager email me with a suitable time and number to discuss this complaint please.

The range of products is excellent! Prices are a little higher than smaller garden centres but the cafe/restaurant has good quality food. On my latest visit I went with my wife to take advantage of the 2 for 1 cream scones "Available from 2pm". We arrived at 3.30pm and asked for the scones but were told there were none left. The assistant did not agree to my (quite reasonable?) suggestion that we have 2 for 1 cherry scones instead - we had travelled 10 miles after all! The coffees were very good and our (now expensive) scones were perfect after heating up in the microwave (very useful, thank you).
I think that if Dobbies advertise an offer it should be honoured.

My daughter and I Visited your store this afternoon to go into the restaurant. We both had cake which was very nice however I went to the toilet and used the disabled toilet. It was absolutely filthy and then when I looked round the restaurant the windows were filthy covered in bird muck Also, the window ledges were on the inside were absolutely disgusting. And add insult to injury the man clearing all the rubbish like black plastic bags and cardboard walked right past the food queue and all the food that was out on display. It was absolutely disgusting and you really need to do something about about it. Sorry to say, we will not be visiting again. The plant section however, and the Waitrose section were absolutely fine. It was just the restaurant.

People were so helpful, even though it was quite busy. It makes visiting as a disabled person so much better.

Very pleasant staff. We got what we wanted.

The food was really good but the pensioners meal receipt was confusing 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️.
Great restaurant layout with plenty room for customers with dogs.
Staff were not very friendly or smiley in contrast to the lovely staff you have in the Perth store. Just how I felt on the day.

Went for lunch. Tables not cleared, restaurant looked dirty and unkept . I’m local but a very poor impression for visitors.
