Landlord EICR

Bill attended to conduct an EICR for our landlord. Bill identified a number of issues and one of which was potentially dangerous. He was very knowledgeable and informative. We discovered that our Landlord and Letting Agent had failed to comply with the law for the past 5 years. Bill attended a few days later to chance the consumer unit to comply with the current regulations.

Should we need an electrician in the future Goodwin Electrical will be my first port of call in the future

If I could leave zero star I would

If I could leave zero star I would. Used this firm recently to do a Landlord 5 yearly check on a 1980's 1 bed house in Plymstock. The installation was failed by this firm with an invoice for nearly £800 of remedial work before a satisfactory certificate would be issued, including changing the bathroom light for a sealed unit. After checking the regs it was too far away from the shower to need changing. Nearly all smaller houses built in the 80's have 16mm tails (the cables between the smart meter & the large fuse where the supply comes in). They even wanted to change the big supply fuse. Totally unnecessary work. Again, existing 16mm tails according to the regulations are perfectly acceptable but new houses have 25mm tails to accomodate EV charging points, something that does not exist in most older houses, including this one. Indeed, when smart meters were installed recently by Eon, no issue was seen by the engineer who reconnected the 16mm tails to the new meter. Suspecting I was being ripped off and western power also had reason to visit when power in the street went off and neither saw anything wrong, I employed an identically qualified electrician (same surname, but NOT a relative as the trader claims) to do a further check days later and it passed without question. The electricians trade body NICEC are not regulators so can't do nothing and trading standards won't as I'm considered a 'business' as I rent a house out-so, as the company have refused to reimburse their charge I'm off to the small claims court with these jokers for my £150 (plus court fees) I paid to get an honest check after this attempted rip off. I do wonder how many other people were forced into doing unnecessary work by these people??? Now the measure of this business is they put my full personal details and (wrong) address online to embarass until I complained to Trustpilot (all printed off for the impending court hearing), even more reason to avoid these people as your personal information may get posted in revenge.ps; the trader says he's offered a refund in his updated reply today (31 May 2026), which I would happily accept if he wants to give it, but nothing to date, I have previously emailed him my bank details in early May, so far nothing...will update if he does....pps; today (1 June) I got my first email from this firm offering a refund PROVIDED I remove the negative comment, which is totally against Trustpilot rules, I've given him until 12 noon 1 June to refund my charge or Trustpilot will be forwarded his email. Unbelievable behaviour, I think anyone reading this then his multiple replies will steer well clear.

Now 11 June the owner has denied even producing an invoice for nearly £800 of unnecessary work, I'm asking Trustpilot if they can facilitate a way I can post his estimate up, I think his own lies and behaviour says more about him that I ever could.

Buy with Confidence scheme ensure we carry out our work correctly and operate within the consumer code of practice. If this customer has a complaint about our company, they have the right to take our complaint to Buy with Confidence to investigate. We are happy to co-operate with any investigation and defend the work we carried out. We have a complaint procedure in place which operates under the consumer code of practice.

I would like it pointed out we carried out the EICR correctly and have photographic evidence of items picked up which gave a C2 coding to give an unsatisfactory Report. We emailed the customer a quote to rectify the work which he had the option to accept or decline with no pressure from our side to force the customer to have the work carried out. The customer then had a second EICR carried out by an electrician (company name removed on this reply review due to data protection) who failed to pick up the C2 items we raised. This Electrician is no longer part p registered and used an expired NICEIC registration number on the report. This electrician has also deleted his website. The customer then decided to give Goodwin Electrical 1 star reviews on Trustpilot and Google which contain blatant falsehoods and have caused financial harm. Goodwin Electrical have grounds to sue for libel in civil court. I had offered a full refund as a Goodwill gesture admitting no liability in full and final settlement, however after further thought have withdrawn this offer due to the customer wishing to keep this review which contains blatant falsehoods and is causing financial harm to our company. The customer now wishes to go to court, we look forward to the court hearing where we will defend our actions and clear our name. Customer may need to read the wiring regulations again. The customer had a new consumer unit put in which probably does not have an Electrical Certificate and Building Control notification for the work. When installing a new consumer unit, you are required to upgrade the meter tails to 25mm. Also cable entry is required to have grommet strip which is missing on your installation. The customer stated the following “They even wanted to change the supply fuse”. That has never been said, this fuse belongs to the DNO, something we cannot change. A customer has the right to question a quote. In your case he declined the quote without any discussion so we took it that he did not want us to do the work and that was the end of the matter.

The Customer stated that he received an invoice for £800 of remedial work. This is totally false information, the customer declined the quote so with no remedial work carried out there was no invoice. The customer now says we have told lies, how can we have told lies. The customer declined the quote so we would not have produced an invoice for work we did not carry out.

I so wish we could publish everything we did for this customer together with photos. However Trustpilot policy does not allow us to do this. Then the evidence will show exactly what we found and what paperwork we produced. Then we can prove to everyone reading this the truth and the whole truth.

He wanted to charge me for £150 to…

He wanted to charge me for £150 to change a face plate on a socket and we was shocked to know that I was complaining about it. Some people make £15 an HOUR and him £150 in 5minutes. I am not saying he gets £15 an hour but £150 in 5 minutes that is shocking. And he seemed to think that he was entitled to it.

We sent a quote to rectify a socket replacement which involved writing up a Satisfactory Electrical Installation Condition Report. The customer accepted the quote and I carried out the work. It was not just the socket, I had to do a new EICR satisfactory report. I even reduced the price as a goodwill gesture so the customer did not pay £150.

This company has excellent procedures…

This company has excellent procedures from providing a competitive quotation through to installation. I purchased my first EV told Kevin the make a model and the requirements of my electricity supplier. He responded within a day with all the correct details and a good price. Within a week I had my charger installed by a very competent and caring electrician, even though the job wasn’t as straight forward due to our building it was installed to a very satisfactory standard and we are extremely pleased with the work.
Highly recommend this company and will definitely use them again.

Highly recommend!

I was needing a job done really urgently to accommodate a poorly family member who is being discharged home from hospital in a short period of time. Bill really kindly offered a date within the time frame we had. Well organised, clear communication with customer, punctual and happy to explain/ answer any questions and concerns and are clear and transparent with what they are doing. Bill and his team carried out the work smoothly and efficiently; they were very tidy, friendly and courteous.
Meant the world when we have had such bad previous experiences with tradesman and contractors and while going through the stress of supporting someone out of hospital. Would highly recommend this dependable and trustworthy team. Thank you Goodwin Electrical!
