I just came in for a initial…

I just came in for a initial consultation. Oh! My God, Amy, spoke to me with such kindness. She gave all pros and cons of the surgery. Amy is amazing! A great professional to be around vulnerable patients. Then I met S.Low , OMG! Another amazing professional. So thorough and kind. The clinic is very practical and professional. From the staff on the phones to all technicians and the front desk. They want to help. God keep them as No.1 in Canada.

Dismissed.

Drove to Victoria for a consultation and exam to determine treatment for vision and cataracts. Reception was very pleasant as was the staff member who carried out various exams. After this I was received by the doctor and left shortly after feeling dismissed and humiliated. I explained that I had significant cataracts in both eyes and wanted remedial action. I had seen a doctor in Duncan, but the wait for surgery was just too long and I had been advised to visit Lasik MD. The doctor then said that they did not do cataract surgery. She asked if I minded wearing glasses, and although I would rather not, I have been wearing them for years so said no. And that was it. Interview over and I was out. I did not go to Lasik MD expecting just cataract removal. I had read about lens replacement which would remove the cataracts but also the need to wear glasses. The doctor did not even touch on that. Maybe the interview process needs to be examined as I came to Lasik MD expecting a discussion of what lens options would best suit me, knowing there would be significant cost. But I was sent away without any options being offered. Very poor show Lasik Md.

LASIK MD MONCTON N.B

THIEVES!!! LASIK 10 YEARS AGO!!! Paid for lifetime warranty 10 years ago. Now I need it again in one eye and they won't honor the warranty I paid for? Looks like TLC is getting a new client.

Have your eyes open for this decision!

My advice is to go into this decision with your eyes open! I had refractive lens exchange surgery about 18 months ago, when I was 63. I did not anticipate the degree to which the degradation in my previously excellent near vision would impact so many aspects of day to day life -- not only reading, but computer work, kitchen prep and cooking, sewing and other crafts, personal care routines . . . Given the extent of the impact, especially in anything other than very bright light conditions, I need to have reading glasses at hand at all times. And even with glasses, my near vision is not nearly as sharp as it used to be. So my enjoyment has been diminished, and I've also experienced a worrisome cognitive burden, something that I don't think is nearly well enough recognized. When tasks that one is used to performing without any difficulty become challenging because of subtle degradation in the senses, the brain gets confused and panicky. Moreover, since the surgery my eyes are almost always tired (and tired looking) and the tear film no longer forms well, so my vision is also hazy especially in sunlight or bright lights. None of these downsides were adequately explained before surgery. They far outweigh the benefit I was seeking -- to be able to enjoy outdoor activities -- canoeing, cross-country skiing, swimming cycling, etc. -- without the hassle of glasses fogging or raining up, etc.

To be reasonable, I know other people who've been very satisfied with RLE. And Lasik is not going to actively discourage people from undertaking the procedure. This is what they're selling after all. They did tell me it was possible if not likely I would need glasses for very fine work. And they were reasonably responsive in trying to address the problems after the fact (e.g., put in a tear-duct plug, covered cost of prescription reading glasses). But I think the downsides were really under-played.

Tactless technicians

Brilliant service from the assistants you meet just before surgery.

One of the pre-op vision test technician was not so friendly as he rushed me into identifying letters, urging me to read faster, without hesitation. Repeatedly, I was told I will lose my short-sightedness (due to my age), so I asked if the surgery caused that. Defensively, he denied it. From two past surgeries, I know that it is an immediate coincidental occurrence. I prefer long-sightedness.

Any medical question I had was patiently answered by Dr Nguyen.

Their facilities no longer have fresh green apples, no more chocolate-chip cookies, no more coffee, tea, French Vanilla, chamomile, etc. Interesting coffee-table books though.

I was able to get the touch-up surgery thanks to the lifetime warranty I paid for, despite the certain assurance from another vision-test technician that the Dr. would refuse operating on me, because he believed it would be inconsequential. Thus, dashing my hopes at a corrected vision, and invalidating my financial foresight in opting for the lifetime warranty.

Conversely, Dr. Nguyen agreed to the surgery, which was a success. I coincidently did lose my short-sightedness (not due to the surgery, wink-wink). However, all risks and dangers were clearly explained to me beforehand. I am satisfied with the result.

Don't trust these people or believe…

Don't trust these people or believe what they tell you,I had surgery scheduled to replace the lenses in both my eyes but cancelled because they refused to provide sedation evrn though I has discussed it twice with their employees and both times they told me I could sign a waiver to take a 5 minute cab ride home to where I live because I have no one else to come and pick me up and I know you can do this because I had to do the same thing to get a colonscopy but when the person phoned to tell me my prescription eye drops were ready to be picked up she was very rude and condescending and said that they wouldn't provide sedation because I couldn't get someone other than a cab to pick me up and after lying to me twice in two different appointments and wasting 3 hours of my time I don't believe anything they told me and am getting another opinion.I am very dissatisfied with these people and would never let them cut into my eyeballs.

Sub-par results, terrible post-op service

Had the surgery done in the Fall of 2013.
I had a high degree of myopia, and I had worn contacts/glasses for decades.
As with almost everyone, I was told that I was a good candidate.
Following the surgery, I right away had -0.25 in one eye and -0.75 in the other.
"Functional 20/20" is what the optometrist called it.
When I mentioned the floaters, she simply noted it down.
I needed glasses right away to watch movies since my vision wasn't sharp enough for my liking.
Night vision is definitely worse.
Dry eyes almost always.
They never called me back for my yearly appointments (or anything else for that matter); obviously, once you've paid you're not really important any more.
So now, three years later, I STRONGLY URGE anyone who is considering any laser eye surgery to be CERTAIN that they REALLY want to take the risk of permanent dry eyes, floaters and eventually going back to glasses/contacts anyway.
Unless you need perfect (?) vision for your dream career, think twice because you may be one of the less fortunate ones who really AREN'T that suitable for laser eye surgery.

UPDATE April 2018: No change, so I'm considering getting punctal plugs to alleviate my continually dry eyes. When I paid $3500 to get my eyes done, I was told that this was for lifetime coverage for any corrections required...BUT. OF COURSE, there's a BUT. If you don't show up for regular checkups, your "warranty" disappears...poof. As if it's not enough to pay extra money to get a warranty, you have to show up one year afterwards and then every two years...WHY??? I PAID THE EXTRA MONEY!!!!
