A Nightmare for SEN Students: Broken Systems, Victim-Blaming, and Cruel Manipulation. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
If you are an international student, especially one who is neurodivergent (ADHD/SEN), please save your money and mental health. Do not take the Oxford ELLT. My trust in this exam is now absolute ZERO. Here is what you will face:
1. A Broken, Unreliable System
During my Listening test, the audio severely lagged and skipped. It took me days of relentlessly chasing them via email just to get a simple system reset so I could actually take the test.
2. Victim-Blaming & Fake SEN Support
I followed their official SEN handbook perfectly. On May 21st, a staff member named Someone officially approved my ADHD extra-time accommodation. I purchased the test license that exact same day. However, when I took the Reading test, the extra time was completely missing.
When I reported this, Someone refused to apologize. Instead, he BLAMED ME, stating: "I checked your account and at that time there was still no purchased licence... you also did not indicate when you intended to sit the test." (If he checked exactly 5 minutes after approving my request, of course it wasn't there yet!)
I pointed out that NOWHERE in their handbook, nor in his approval email, does it state that SEN students must manually notify them again after purchasing the test or report an exact test date. Instead of acknowledging this hidden administrative trap, Someone doubled down, repeating the exact same excuses to blame me. I simply wanted the accommodations I am rightfully entitled to, but instead, I have to constantly fight their broken system and endure baseless accusations for their own incompetence.
3. Cruel Gaslighting and Manipulation
The most absurd part happened next. After resetting the Reading test, Someone had previously emailed me stating, "This matter has now been resolved. Your Reading test has been reset, and the approved accommodation has been applied to both the Reading and Writing modules." I thought I could finally test in peace. However, a day later, he sent another seemingly polite email: "We are awaiting your confirmation on how you would like to proceed... Once we receive your instructions, we will advise on next steps."
As a neurodivergent person, I take words literally. I believed he genuinely wanted to help, so I replied in good faith with my instructions. The VERY SECOND I replied, I received an Auto-Reply stating Mr. You-KNow-Who is on vacation until June 26th! There was no mention of anyone taking over my urgent case.
He faked a helpful email just to bait my reply so he could close his ticket and go on holiday, leaving me completely abandoned.
I have received zero apologies. I kept wondering what I did wrong to be treated with such disrespect and manipulation. I now realize my only mistake was taking this test. They do not care about SEN students; they only care about taking your money and going on vacation. Absolutely disgusting.
