Urgent Concerns Regarding Severe Disorganization in Transplant Care
Deeply troubling experience with the RWJBH Transplant Center, and I feel obligated to speak up given the seriousness of what is at stake. The level of disorganization we have encountered is unacceptable for any medical setting—let alone a transplant center responsible for patients whose lives depend on timely, coordinated care.
For more than six months, we have waited for something as basic as coordinating my father’s routine testing results. Despite repeated attempts to follow up, there has been no meaningful progress, no clear communication, and no sense of urgency from the team. As of today, my father is still not on the transplant list.
What is even more concerning is the lack of internal communication among the clinical staff. Each time we meet with the doctor, nurse, or social worker, we are asked the exact same questions—as if nothing has been documented. Instead of using proper medical records or structured notes, we’ve repeatedly watched staff scribble on the back of loose pieces of paper before rushing out of the room. This does not inspire confidence, nor does it reflect the level of professionalism expected from a transplant program.
At a center where accuracy, coordination, and timely action are literally matters of life and death, this kind of fragmented, inconsistent, and careless approach is simply inexcusable. Families deserve better. Patients deserve better. And this system must acknowledge and fix these issues before more people fall through the cracks.
