Poor quality assurance on repair

Following a no-fault accident insurance claim, the repair took 2 months, which I consider an unreasonable time. Stoneacre notified the insurer that the repair was complete before it had been checked by me. As a result, my replacement vehicle hire was terminated, even though I then had to reject the repair twice due to poor quality. Overall a lack of attention to detail, poor quality assurance and poor communication. I will avoid Stoneacre in the future.

19 year old disabled girl on mobility

19 year old disabled girl on mobility, got a Renault Captur from Evans Halshaw Middlesbrough. This car just stops on the drive, no warning,
Any following cars are put in danger of hitting her car.
This car was taken by RAC to their depot and no faults found.
8 times this happened.
After complaining to Motability was advised to take to another Renault Dealer. on their advice we took to Stoneacre Darlington, after breaking down another 2 times, to be told diagnostic shows no faults.
Done half mile from garage to this car breaking down, asked garage if they could come and look and they said call RAC.
For the 11th time this car broke down, it was taken to Darlington by the RAC on Friday last, with the same problem.
This garage was closed when it arrived, so we travelled to Darlington next day with the key, to be told they would look at the car Monday, as Service dept. Was closed.
Monday lunchtime received a call saying been taken on a test drive and the car is fine, road worthy,
Couldn’t collect car Monday so made arrangement to collect Yesterday,
I received a call saying the car had no power on her drive home, I thought with having a hire car, it was the difference in the car, after 8 miles this car, broke down (engine management light came on) and the car ) went into limp mode,
RAC called again and car taken to Stoneacre Darlington, on arrival receptionist said we can’t take it we are busy, then the RAC man said there are loads of spaces and he was leaving it there.
I’m sure there will be a next episode to follow.

Awful experience

Do not trust Aysha Bond and her team at Stoneacre Lincoln.

I purchased a car from them, and seven months later I booked my MOT and service elsewhere to have it done myself. However, I was then contacted by a member of their team who told me I had a free service and could have it done in London. I specifically double-checked this with them, and they confirmed it was free.

When I attended my appointment at Volvo, I was then informed that it was not free and that I would need to pay. It seems they provided misleading information in order to get me to attend their service and then charge me afterwards.

I refused to pay and rebooked my service with another garage at a lower price, but I am extremely disappointed with this experience. It delayed my service by a month and wasted a significant amount of my time.

Viewing a car.

I called at volvo grimsby to view a car I'd seen online. The salesman was very good, polite and professional. He got the keys and showed me round. Not pushy like some, he left me to have a proper look and advised a test drive.
Customer service at its best.

Cost has gone up, Experience has gone down (massively)

Originally booked in at Stoneacre Worksop and have been using them for many years with no issues, however this time around I had a dreadful experience.

To give some context, I had an issue with a daytime running light on my jeep renegade and took it to get looked at. Cue to around lunchtime and I get the inspection report, this is all of the stuff they said needed urgently fixing:

- £37.50 (light), expected this cost
- £57.60 (wipers), apparently needed replacing, felt quite expensive for a wiper change considering they current ones seemed fine.
- £84 (coolant leak investigation), apparently there was a coolant leak and before they'd found the problem they wanted £84 to take a look at it
- £328.97 (track rod end), apparently the end was splitting and it was urgently in need of a replacement
- £389 (service), apparently it also needed a major service and that was also urgent
- £858.56 (cambelt) The cambelt also needed replacing, which is fair enough because the vehicle is getting a bit older but again dubbed as urgent work
- £883.74 (lower arm bushes) apparently these were showing signs of separation and also needed doing.

Also bear in mind there was a +£158 cost just for taking it to the garage in the first place, even if nothing else needed doing!

So so far they've quoted me for over £2750 worth of work which apparently needs urgently carrying out. Funnily enough it was april fools day when I took my car in so initially I thought it must have been a joke!

Then a few hours later I got a callback saying that looking at the coolant leak i'd need an entire intake replacement which was around £900 to do taking the grand total of around £3650 or so. I ended up just getting the wipers, track rod and daylight light changed then just took the car back to have somebody else look at it.

The reason i'm detailing the costs is because im shocked at the cost to fix these issues compared to having it done by a local mechanic. Take the cam belt for example, I had a quote the other day from a local mechanic that was £250 cheaper than stoneacre. Almost every one of the urgent repairs has maybe a 20-25% markup and what it would cost to have it done by a smaller family mechanic.

This didn't always used to be the case however, Stoneacre used to be quite affordable, and you never felt like they were just trying to find issues to raise and fix. I'm not the only one who has had this exprience, my Grandmother a few months prior had gone and had a similar experience, with almost everything made to sound urgent and needing doing right away, again, thousands for work that either wasn't urgent or didn't need doing in the first place.

A cynical person might say that they're deliberately taking advantage of the colour-coding system to try and encourage customers to spend a lot more by making as much stuff as possible sound urgent, when in actual fact it isn't.

Also, I wouldn't expect a chain like stoneacre with over 80 locations to be comparatively MORE expensive than a local business, I thought the point of larger chains is that they have economies of scale and can offer the same but for cheaper? In this cost of living crisis, many customers can't absorb these higher margins and will either go elsewhere or simply stop having things fixed.

I do think the customer service could leave something to be desired on my visit, the guy at the reception seemed completely unbothered and when questioning the cost and urgency of some of the works I got a short and dismissive "yeah I know it can be costly but it is what it is".

I used to have the service plan many years ago as well until they decided to massively increase the price to where it just became terrible value for money. This year i've decided to have my Cambelt replaced, Full service and MOT done at a more local mechanic and i've saved about £350.

Customer service non existent.

Purchased a car from Stoneacre Stoke January 2026 and had the worst experience ever. They had made a mistake on the V5 , charged me for a wheel and tyre plan that I never wanted , the paint protection was applied on top of a sticker etc . The Stoke management were rubbish and not interested. The V5 eventually got sorted by logging a complaint to Stella this.

Incredibly disappointing


Incredibly disappointing. I have dealt with Stoneacre for over 5 years, but I will now never return. I arranged for my Car to be Serviced and MOT tested on the 9th April, I dropped my car in at 8:30, and was called later on that day, to say my car had failed its MOT due to one tyre, and that there was an outstanding recall on the car and this meant my car now needed to stay in the dealership longer, 1 week. At this time I informed the servicing team, I was due to undergo an operation on the 18th, I was promised my car would be ready for me at this time.
I’d heard nothing from Stoneacre, so phoned them on the 16th to check where my car was, they told me they had MOT tested my car THAT DAY, and it had failed on a seatbelt that needed fixing, they didn’t have the part, it needed ordering and wouldn’t be there until Saturday at the earliest. I told them I wouldn’t be able to collect and they’d need to drop it off, which was agreed,
I was confused at this so checked the GOV website as surely both MOT records would show? WRONG it was only tested on the 16th.

Monday the 20th comes, we get a phone call from Stoneacre telling me I can collect my car today? My fiancé answered the call as I’m on morphine and bed rest and need 24:7 supervision, hence why we can’t collect it. They have no record of the promise of delivery, can’t explain why the two tests aren’t showing online. They have to go away and come back to tell us it’ll be today but they just can’t say when as they need to try and find drivers to drop it off with us and could we please pay over the phone for the tyre now because we are unable to collect. No apology, no offer of compensation. Nothing.

Incredibly disappointing and has added a huge amount of stress to a time that was stressful enough.

The service was impeccable.

The service was impeccable never in my life have I ever been told so many lies from Lukas and the manager Stephan. I never received the nissan juke I purchased. Was promised week after week with lies after lies. No correspondence I had to phone and or go down to the showroom. Eventually got a refund in two parts!!
I wouldn't trust this company and wouldn't advise anyone to go to stoneacre in Basford Nottingham. My complaint is going to the top, the way I was treated from February through to April

If you’re considering spending a dime at this establishment, just walk out into the street and set your wallet on fire—at least that way you won't have to deal with the disgusting, bottom-feeding snakes who run this place.
THE SCAM:
I "ordered" parts that some of them I wanted to cancel 5 minutes after I ordered and they didn’t let me !
Some of them I cancelled next week and they never provide me with receipts even I ask them multiple times . After weeks of being ignored and lied to, I finally canceled the order. These parasites had the absolute gall to steal 25% of my money as a "restocking fee."
RESTOCKING WHAT?! You never shipped the parts! You never even HAD the parts! You are charging me a 25% "incompetence tax" because your department is too dysfunctional to fulfill a basic order.
THE MANAGEMENT:
Adam Clough and team from Peterborough running this circus are absolute cowards. They hide behind fine print to justify what is, in plain English, larceny. They don't make their money selling cars or parts; they make their money by baiting people into orders they can't fulfill and then pocketing a quarter of the refund. It’s a legal shakedown, and they’ve turned "customer service" into a predatory grift.
THE VERDICT:
This place is a cancer on the community. They are dishonest, unethical, and morally bankrupt. To the owner: I hope that 25% you stole from me was worth this review, because I will make it my life’s mission to ensure every person in this city knows exactly what kind of predatory vultures you are.
IF YOU SEE THEIR LOGO, TURN AROUND. IF YOU’VE GIVEN THEM YOUR CARD INFO, CANCEL IT IMMEDIATELY. THEY ARE CRIMINALS.

Unprofessional and unreliable

We went to test a car after having a phone call with the local dealer. However, we could not test the car becuase there was a recall on the battery. They apologised and asked us to come back another day, we agreed we would come today. They confirmed over the phone yesterday. This morning they cancel the appointment with 30 mins notice stating the "car was sold overnight". I called to request an explanation, when I said they had been unprofessional, she said that they explained we could have reserved. I can assure you they did not explain this neither to me or my husband. Maybe it is for the best, given the bad reviews on after sales customer service...
What could have been better? 1st- have the car ready to test if you are advertising it and if you ask people to come and test it. 2nd- be clear and transparent, explain the process in writing to ensure nothing is missed. 3rd-be accountable and take responsibility instead of telling us late that we did not reserve it (and hang up the phone). MG S5 EV FRONT AND REAR DASHCAM

We bought a new MG S5 Trophy Long Range EV from the Hyde branch. We saw an advert on the salesman's desk for a dashcam and enquired about it. We asked if it was specific to MG cars and were told that it was and that it was recommended by MG. We paid £600 for the dashcam as an accessory, expecting a top of the range dashcam. What was fitted, however, was a Nissan dashcam which retails at £100. It was poorly fitted with wires sticking out. When I asked for a run-through of how the dashcam worked, I was told that it wasn't possible because none of the salesmen were familiar with it. That was apparently also the case for the men in the service department. I was told to read the instructions on the box instead. I phoned Stoneacre Head Office to lodge a complaint, and was told that they couldn't do anything because I had agreed to pay the £600. (Obviously not realising it was 6x the going rate - I should have done my research beforehand, but I was pressured into buying the car quickly as the deal "might come to an end"). The dashcam supplied was a lower end dashcam and barely fit for purpose. We were not given any technical specifications beforehand, nor given any alternative models or upgrade alternatives to higher spec dashcam. Honestly I feel scammed and it was definitely mis-sold. Stoneacre have made little to no attempt to call me back. My next step is Citizens Advice. My biggest mistake was trusting the salesmen.

The worst car company I’ve ever bought…

The worst car company I’ve ever bought a car through. The pushiest sales people in branch (one literally ran after us when we left as we wanted to have a think before we bought) and also whenever you need to book in for a service or an issue with your car. Booking a car service and trying to be up sold 3 different ‘recommended additions’. I was sold a car that had been ‘checked and made ready’ for me which cost me £40, for the tyre light to come on immediately, which resulted in me paying £220 for 2 new tyres; I then had to chase for over a month for a refund with multiple people at the branch passing me on to other contacts. Avoid if you can.

I had an amazing buying experience with…

I had an amazing buying experience with Stoneacre. I found a car on their website and placed a reservation, and from there the process was smooth and professional. Maya sent me a detailed video review of the car, followed by a call to go through the finance options.

I mainly dealt with Tom and Maya, and I have to say Maya was fantastic — I asked a lot of questions, and she answered everything quickly, clearly, and efficiently. The whole experience felt easy and well organised.

I would highly recommend the Northallerton branch to anyone looking to buy a car.
