Summer Discovery is too strict
Actual program (Penn Law) was fun and I learned a ton but summer discovery rules were overbearing and way too strict, and were not helpful when trying to work with them. They give you about as much freedom as a 10 year old, and you must always travel in groups of three anywhere you go.

The main staff were so amazing, though some others were unpleasant. I went on a three day hike, teaching me a lot about the camp I was doing!

Summer Discovery was a great experience
Summer Discovery was a great experience for me. The courses were all interesting, and the staff was very helpful in any logistics problems. I also made a few friends with similar interests to me.

Everything about the program was amazing 10/10 except for their time management and preparation
Everything about the program was amazing. On that front I give 10/10. What makes this a 3/5 for me is not what the program offered, but their preparation. Summer Discovery had a bunch of amazing activities, but every time they were unprepared and always catching up. This was horrible as a student who had to sit in a no AC bus in 95+ degree weather in humidity for 90 minutes. It really puts a damper on what we did because no matter how fun it was, there were always issues with everything we did. Summer discovery needs to be more prepared and accountable with time and understand that they are responsible for kids, and doing things like leaving us in a bus with no AC could potentially be dangerous.

Review of Summer Discovery at University of Michigan - Summer 2026
The staff at SD-University of Michigan were truly great. It was very easy to talk to, ask for help, or communicate anything else to each and every one of the staff members. And I am from Lansing (very close to Michigan State University), so getting me to not just tolerate, but enjoy my experience at U-M was truly impressive. Just like the base SD staff, the professors were wonderful, classes engaging, and projects interesting. Finally, the activities were very fun. My only complaint, was that our room check-in every night (I stayed in the dorm) was not until 11:30 PM.

Awful Planning
As a commuter, I was pratically ignored. They did not give me lunch, and the organization of the trips was very poor. They had three buses when we needed four, meaning the buses were three to a seat. Not to mention that for all the money you spend you get school buses, not a coach. Also, as a commuter we were not allowed in the dorm, meaning it was nearly impossible for me to actually build relationships.

Summer Discovery at Yale
The classes were really informational and I love how much I learned. Though, the planning could be better and arriving an hour late (multiple times) was not the best thing that happened to me.

I like the setup of the program
I like the setup of the program. It is very easy for parent to drop the kids and pick them up.

My son enjoyed the course he chose
My son enjoyed the course he chose. There seemed to be a disconnect from the courses and information being offered to the discovery staff. The entry day was disorganized and mis information was provided for the check-in process. It would make parents and kids feel more comfortable if the check in process is run more efficiently and more time was taken to prepare and set up. All in, my son had an amazing time, but it would have felt better leaving him on the day of checkin if things were better organized.

Fun but teachers were bad
It was so fun, my rc was amazing! However, my teachers weren’t good and didn’t teach the courses well. Other than that it was great!

Fantastic Summer Experience
The staff (Summer Discovery and CIA) were amazing, accommodations great, hands-on experience was truly fantastic…
I think the one area of improvement would be the family dinner. It could be more impactful if you shared with parents additional information about the college and its programs. Also, the students at our table were disappointed that the meal we ate was provided by different students on the campus and not them. I would have also enjoyed it more if we (the parents) were eating food prepared by our kids that we sent to the program. I think it could have made a greater impact.

It was just very disorganized with…
It was just very disorganized with staff and students both not knowing what was happening and staff not having an understanding of the programming or schedule. Students had limited options to get to know one another and staff was not very friendly or outgoing. I was at Georgetown and we were there during the 4th of July but still did not get to have a fun 4th experience and were stuck on campus doing nothing. I would not recomend.
