Excessive Change Order Fees
The salesperson was excellent, the local installer was professional and efficient, and the shed appears to be good quality. Unfortunately, Tuff Shed’s post-sale customer service was extremely disappointing.
Before painting had started, I asked to change the color and offered to provide the paint myself. For a 10x12 shed, Tuff Shed wanted $1,000 to change the color, or $750 if I supplied the paint.
That is difficult to justify when painting was already included in the purchase. For comparison, two independent painters quoted me $900 and $1,000 to repaint the entire building, including paint and primer.
I declined the change rather than pay what I consider an excessive and unreasonable fee. What should have been a five-star experience was significantly diminished by inflexible and disproportionate post-sale pricing.
Tuff Shed - Lisle IL SUCKS!
As of 9/28/26, VERY disappointed in my experience with Mr. Bill Bushwaller (630.370.7978) out of the Lisle Office. I have what I thought would be a VERY small issue with my Tuff Shed structure that I had completed in the beginning of September '26. All it needs are some vents installed, a few weeks ago when we had that hot weather in the Chicago weather my shed interior was over 125 F, yesterday (9/27/26) when the outside temperature was barely 70 F, it was 96 F. 2 weeks ago when I spoke to Bill about the problem, said he would speak to someone from the main office........CRICKETS so far. The main purpose for this $30K shed was to store my blower/lawnmower, gasoline and my propane tanks for my grill/trailer that are stored in that structure, a quick google search, propane tanks should not be stored in a space where temps exceed 120 F. My wooden canoe will be cooked after one warm season. The structure itself is well built, the Customer Service is less than adequate.
Very Disappointing Experience
I recently bought a shed from Tuff Shed through Home Depot and the purchase went badly almost immediately. The salesperson pushed and pushed me to buy, but after I did he was not very helpful. After my previous shed was demolished, I asked him to come inspect the site, but he said I should just send him pictures. From the pictures, he said the site looked fine and I didn't need to do anything. I also asked him to bring me color swatches, but he just sent pictures of those. When the shed builders came, they said they didn't have enough materials to level the shed and could they use the cinder blocks I had in my yard. I should have said no, but was caught off-guard and said okay. When they had built the frame and floor, I saw that the frame was at least a foot off the ground in the front and I tried asking if it would stay that way, but they pretty much ignored me and kept working. I figured they knew what they were doing so I went back inside. After they were done and the shed was still that high off the ground, I asked how I was supposed to get in it and was told "I don't know...get a ramp, get stairs...I don't know". So in essence, he just told me he really couldn't care less. After the builders left, and my boyfriend and I looked closer , we could see that not only were our cinder blocks used to level the shed, but the builders had taken anything in the yard they could find (pieces of slate, wood, and shingles) to level the shed and the three piles they put under the front of the shed all looked different as well. It looked completely unprofessional. I called the customer service number to complain the next day, and was happy when I got a call a few days later saying they would send someone to "re-do it" ASAP. When the man came out, he was given instructions to just replace the materials used to level the shed, but not to bring it down any lower. I expressed that I was unhappy with this as I would have leveled the ground before the shed was built had I been informed that it would be this high off the ground (my previous shed in the same spot had not been that way at all). He was the one person in the company who actually cared, and came back again to dig out the back of the shed, so the front could be lowered a good deal. It is much better now, but still a good six inches off the ground and needs a ramp in order to get a lawnmower in/out. So I tried calling the manager a couple of times to ask for a ramp at no charge since they had not done this installation right at all, but he never answered or returned my calls. I then called the customer service number again to ask the same thing and was told I would hear back in a few days. I received a text, not even a phone call, a couple of days later saying that they would not give me a ramp at no charge, but I was welcome to purchase a pair of ramps for $349. I told them I would never purchase anything from them again after this. So Tuff Shed is the kind of company that thinks $349 is worth more than keeping a customer happy after their employees totally mishandled the customers' shed installation. Be wary of doing business with them.

The door is so heavy the hinges bent and pulled out after two years.
Over $10,000 for a shed, followed by installation problems, repeated warranty visits, conflicting answers, and repairs that still did not match what Tuff Shed said was needed
I purchased a 12' x 12' Premier Pro Tall Ranch from Tuff Shed for over $10,000 because I expected professional installation and strong warranty support. Unfortunately, the experience was frustrating from production through service.
Installation was delayed due to a reported truck issue, then set back again when the crew had incorrect materials. After completion, I found visible wall/roof gaps, door fitment problems, protruding fasteners, missed paint/trim, questionable shimming/supports, and a roof/wall connector that had been left completely unfastened until I noticed it during the walkthrough.
I stopped my interior work and opened a warranty claim. Tuff Shed initially scheduled service for the “gaps,” but I made clear in writing that I wanted the shell inspected, not simply caulked.
I later spoke with George at the factory, who initially agreed my concerns about the wall gaps were valid. When installers returned, however, they showed me their work order only listed “replace door.” They said the wall gaps were a factory issue, not theirs, and called George. I was then told there was nothing more they could do, and more caulk was applied.
Tuff Shed had also texted me that the “Door needs to be replaced looks warped” and that the original installer needed to “correct everything.” The door was ultimately not replaced. Instead, because the lower door-pin hole had originally been drilled in the wrong location, another hole was drilled directly beside it and the original hole was left in place.
Some items were addressed, but for a premium-priced new shed I should not have had to act as the customer, quality inspector, warranty coordinator, and intermediary between the factory and installers. The shed design itself is good, but based on the installation quality control and warranty experience, I cannot recommend Tuff Shed.
Tuff Shed
Ron, Hayden, and their crew did a fantastic job on our shed. It only took them five hours. They were professional and courteous. I highly recommend them.

Poor salesman follow thru but promised he would!!!!!!!!!
The sales man pushed me to order and then I had to fight with my city about the foundation and they said they would help but I ended up doing it all and the salesmen even told me a gravel foundation would good as they had worked with the city of columbia before but that was false info as I need a concrete foundation that cost me alot and then they called off delivery on the first day scheduled and had to wait another 10 days to get it delivered and was told they tied them down and the delivery guy said they do not so I tried getting ahold of the saleman a few times, no answer but the delivery gal said he would be calling me but never did. I would not recommend buying one of their sheds at all. I had to tie it down myself before the city would approve. Another business telling lies and taking advantage of a female senior citizen.
Happy with our Shed!
Great communication, fast turnaround, made sure the job was done properly and that we were happy with our product. Would use again.
Quick install/Sturdy little shed!
From start to finish we have been extremely pleased with our Tuff Shed purchase! We saw them at Home Depot and really liked the fact that they build on site (no need to take down fence in yard!!). A Tuff Shed rep (Tim Smith) reached out to us after we indicated our preferences online and from that point on, we were guided every step of the way from permit procedures (thanks Amelia!) to care and maintenance of the shed. Really needed that help because it was all new to us! Shed was installed shortly after by a great team led by Eliandro. Just couldn't be happier with the way it looks and how sturdy the shed is! Oh, and we really appreciate the 15% off sale that brought the price down a bit too! Thanks!!!
Nice shed, but beware of a major, undisclosed cosmetic issue
We recently purchased a Tuff Shed, and while the actual structure of the shed is quite nice and sturdy, there is a major cosmetic issue that potential buyers need to know about. Every Tuff Shed comes with a very ugly, 6-inch metal galvanized band that shows all the way around the outside bottom edge. It is incredibly unsightly and completely ruins the clean look of the shed. The biggest issue is that we were never told this would be the case during the design or purchase phase. It completely caught us by surprise upon delivery. When we brought this complaint to our salesperson, they were visibly unhappy with our feedback and actively tried to discourage me from writing a online review. They offered some suggestions on how to improve the look, all of which would cost a significant amount of money. If you care about the aesthetics of your backyard, make sure to ask about this metal framing before you buy. I wish someone had warned us- we would have gone a different direction with our purchase had we been made aware. We purchased our shed at the Tuff Shed in Palatine, IL.
Over a year in, no garage, no response to our cancellation Tuff Shed…
We signed a contract with Tuff Shed Denver in July 2025 for a 20x30 Premier Pro Ranch Garage at our home. We are now approaching the one-year mark and the project has not progressed past trying to obtain a demolition permit for the existing structure on the site.
The delays have been numerous and ongoing: asbestos inspection and report revisions, months spent chasing neighbor signatures (including Tuff Shed going in person to a rental property to get a signature from a tenant, despite us having already provided the actual property owner's name and contact information), a sewer line cut-off or reroute requirement that the City flagged as mandatory given the size of our structure — an expense over $10,000 that was never communicated to us as a project risk — and most recently a newly required "Safe Site Inspection" before the City will even review the demo application. We were also informed on June 24 that our state demolition authorization had a window of June 2 through July 2 — three weeks into that window with barely a week remaining.
We sent a formal written cancellation email requesting a refund of our $4,144 deposit. Tuff Shed never responded. Weeks later, their permit technician emailed us with a routine project update and had no knowledge whatsoever that we had sent a cancellation email. There has been no acknowledgment, no response, and no refund.
We also had a smaller shed installed separately — that project went fine and is not the subject of this review. The garage project has been a completely different experience. We would not recommend Tuff Shed for any complex permitted build in Denver.

They advertise that shed built in a day. Not true in our case they had to make 3 trips before finished. The first day didn’t go well and when I tried to explain to lady from customer service she wouldn’t let me finish a sentence and kept talking over me. I would have returned the whole thing but there is a 40 percent restocking fee. The whole experience was not good. I wouldn’t recommend this company.
Terribly frustrating
Terribly frustrating! I ordered a shed in May and a few weeks later my shed was scheduled for install at the end of June and the next payment was due. I confirmed the install date 3 times because I had considerable prep in order to be ready for the install on that date, and had to spend more to make sure the area was prepared for them on time. I've now paid $5K to prep the site and $10K (90% of the total cost) paid to Tuff Shed, it's going on 1 month past the install date, and can't get a call back. I send messages, I call them, and the person I talk to always needs to transfer me to someone else, and that person isn't there and I don't get a call back. Feeling like a fool for trusting them.
We couldn’t be happier!
My entire experience was excellent from start to finish! I had lots of questions throughout the process. William was very helpful and patient. The installers, Ron and Josh, were very prompt, communicative, friendly and efficient. Our shed was completed in about four hours. The worksite was spotless when they left. The shed is exactly as expected, well built and attractive.

I have been waiting for them to get a working site plan through the city since February 6 but nobody seems able to give me a straight answer. I have been told by many different employees that they are “ on it “, but never any follow through. They took my money and and I’m still waiting for a definitive answer. Would never recommend this company to anyone.
the hinges are CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP
I've had my Tuff Shed for over 3 years and it is holding up well... I had the extra metal foundation joists and extra rafters - and it's had 3 feet of snow on it...
I also had the double doors - and THAT was the BIG PROBLEM... the doors are heavy and the hinges they used were so cheap that within a couple months the doors were sagging so much I couldn't latch them closed unless I lifted up on them to close them... I knew if I called them for the warranty they would just come out and put the same hinges on and I'd be going through it all over again in a couple months...
CHEAP CHEAP HINGES...
I finally bought 6 heavy duty T-strap hinges and my partner and I installed them - not with little wood screws like were used on the original hinges that broke and stripped when they were installing them, but with 3/16" bolts that went all the way through the door with nuts on the back...
the doors are no longer sagging...
I purchased a tuff shed from Home…
I purchased a tuff shed from Home Depot. The salesman from tuff shed was two hours late for the schedule appointment we had.
The Home Depot manager called him after noticing I was still standing there by the customer service desk.
He told her he was in the parking lot.
Let’s just say I didn’t see him for 15 more minutes.
When he finally got there, we went outside to see the displays. I liked one of them and asked him could I just buy the display instead of them having to build me one, “ he said yes, as long as it can fit already assembled.
I didn’t think it was a problem because I just had a shed moved that was much larger.
Two days before the delivery day I called him to confirm everything was OK. He said yes everything is a go. The office should be calling me today or tomorrow with a time of delivery.
I didn’t get a call from the office so I called them and ask what time will my shed be delivered tomorrow? She asked me have I talked to my salesman? I told her yes, I talked to him two days ago and he said someone from the Office would be giving me a call with a delivery time.
She said No we emailed him a week ago and told him that the driver went by the house and said that the truck will not fit in the back with the shed being assembled.
I was pissed. I called the salesman and he said he had
just got the email that day.
I had contractors scheduled the next day and I’m using my shed for a office so I had office furniture all over my house longer than I expected.
I was refunded for the display shed since they were unable to make the delivery. I was told by management if I wanted to have one built, I could go back to Home Depot and meet the salesman and it wouldn’t be any additional cost for the new build for all of my trouble.
I was so upset I didn’t realize I ended up paying a little over $100 more for the shed after I was told it would be the same price. The salesman told me that he was going to add a light to the outside of my shed with
no additional cost and my new shed would look just like the display. It was built today. I have no lights that was promised to me and the residential door that was on the display is not the same door that’s on my shed. I called to the office and the salesman told me he’s working on it. The Office told me they would call me back. I have not heard from them.
I will not recommend
TUFF SHED to anyone.
Shed installed by Brian and George
I had a 10'x12' shed installed by Brian and George out of Columbia, South Carolina. They did an awesome job. They were pleasant and friendly and they worked well with me to insure the installation was exactly how I wanted it. Thank you, Brian, thank you George, and thank you Tuff Shed. I love my new shed.
This was a fiasco
This was a fiasco. I had my paint matched to my house and read that I should leave it at Home Depot for someone at Tuff Shed to pick up. Then a woman on the phone said she didn’t know about that and said to bring it to the warehouse where it was being built. I was waiting for her to get back to me to tell me exactly what to do and I received a rude call asking where was the paint and they would have to reschedule if I didn’t get it to their warehouse. Then on the day it was to be installed workers came to demo my old shed, which the woman on the phone said they didn’t do, so I had taken it down myself. The two workers who didn’t speak English returned hours later by themselves (they definitely needed more than two people) and worked for three days to get it done. I am expected to give this 13 foot tall shed a second coat of paint with the dried out paint brushes they provided. The windows are scratched and crooked. The second story is covered in debris. They put the ugly solar panels on the front of the building and the sconces to light the building on the back. The lights on the inside are unevenly installed. They have no attention to detail.
The whole experience was very easy
The whole experience was very easy. From Larry our Sales Consultant to the installation crew, Samuel and helper. Should have done this sooner!!! Thank You!!!
