Also ist die Unterstützung externer Monitore in meinem Fall unbrauchbar – weder direkt am Notebook über USB-C noch über eine Dockingstation, obwohl es dafür auch Treiber gab.

Man muss wirklich darauf achten, ob die eigene Hardware auch langfristig funktioniert. Es ist nicht zeitgemäß für ein Betriebssystem, dass die Grafikausgabe über USB-C nicht zuverlässig funktioniert.

Unter Windows klappt es problemlos, und an meinem MacBook Air funktioniert es am besten.
Ich kann von meinen zwei Monitoren nur einen benutzen, und das auch nur dann, wenn kein Bildschirmschoner, kein Ruhezustand und keine Abmeldung aktiviert sind – der Bildschirm muss dauerhaft eingeschaltet bleiben.

I tried for 2 days and couldn't even boot it. Even with help from a linux distributor. I have a 3 year old Windows 11 Lenovo Vantage which crashed and after a Windows repair I gave up. Windows 11 has many faults but better the devil you know. This Linux stuff seems to be better for old pc's. Im not high tech, but this isn't an OS. Someone needs to develop a simple Windows alternative for the average user, about 80% of people, that just works. I dont see one anywhere. I' avoid Linux if I were you unless you are high tech.

Die Installation ist an sich recht einfach. Aber man kann keine Bildschirmgröße des Laptops angeben während des Installationvorganges.

Bei ersten Start ist dann die Schrifft in allen Fenstern, im Startmenue, in der Taskleiste so was von winzig (es ist schon fast absurd)

Irgendjemand hat es mir dann eingestellt - aber was und wo war so unübersichtlich und so ist Linux Ubundu gleich wieder rausgeflogen und die originale Festplatte mit dem Originalen Betriebssytem (Windows 11 Pro) ist gleich wieder eingekommen.
Fällt so was den Entwicklern icht auf? Sind diese so betriebsblind? Sitzen die vor gut lesbaren Kinobildschirmen? Lesbarkeit - von Anfang an - ist doch das Mindeste! Braucht ja nur eine Größenauswahlmöglichkeit Display im Proßeß des Aufsetzens.

Mein Vertrauen in ausgegorenen Bedienbarkeit ist schon an der Stelle flöten gegangen. Bei aller Kritik an MAc Apple und Microsoft; aber das hier bei Linux ist erbärmlich ! sorry ! Und auch nicht Barrierefrei - es gibt welche die kämen auch mit einer optischen Lupe vorm Display nicht weiter; eine dünne Suppe also diese Entwicklung. (Stand 2025)

Using Mint, Lubuntu and Kubuntu I've had to work hard now and then but with refreshing the installations occasionally I can only give full marks. So I thought I'd try a full Ubuntu installation.
On first boot there is no Readme to find out how to use Ubuntu Pro and security updates.
Then using the installed Firefox, a browser I find great on other distributions, trying to download from a major FPT site after a few downloads all I get after a few downloads is first an ever increasing number of attempts to get beyond 403 then just 403.

But come on Canonical LTS 24.04 downloaded from your own site not working out of the box on the first site visited

Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS Noble. I used ubuntu about 20 years ago and hated it. I was always a windows user so I had a lot of issues working out what to do. I then went through years of frustration with Linux Mint and MX Linux but had constant issues with bluetooth, sound, drivers and constantly freezing up needing to be restarted.
I've just installed Noble and it is absolutely FANTASTIC. It's clean. It responds instantly and it's amazing to use. It's like exchanging an old Ford for a Rolls Royce. An absolute pleasure to use and everything works perfectly.
Highly recommended for older computers.

I used Kubuntu for a month, I found it to be very customisable because it's desktop environment is KDE Plasma. However, the GUI often breaks and it is very unstable in my experience.

Non disdegno Linux ma trovo che Ubuntu sia confusionario e poco fruibile per desktop, discorso a parte è per l'installazione server che funziona meglio e che comunque una volta installata si modifica molto poco e basta la stabilità.
Personalmente preferisco Linux Mint che è più semplice e più intuitivo ma poi come tutte le cose è soggettivo.

Gute Alternative für Windows. Natürlich muß man sich etwas damit beschäftigen und probieren. Wer das nicht will, ist bei Linux falsch, wobei sehr viel schon vom Start her funktioniert. Probleme gibt es nur mit Spezialsoftware wie Adobe zb.

I can only imagine how good Linux on desktop could be if the community could consolidate development to maybe a dozen or less distributions. Instead of hundreds of fragmented bunch of people all doing their own thing. At least Ubuntu has some semblance of continuity but it still comes down to what works on Linux and so far the lack of applications people actually use supporting Linux is a big problem. Sure, the hardware compatibility has been better than in the past. But having a stable Linux desktop OS is only half the battle. I have yet to be that impressed with applications available that are workable solutions to the rest of people on Windows or Mac's.

Absolutely the worst thing ever happened to me was to try to install Ubuntu to start coding. I spent 100 hours on internet on more than 100 websites to make a sense of what was happenng, I had more than 100 different errors, flashed my USB drive more than 40 times, tried every combination, read hell a lot of forums and watched numeroues videos, even asked help from community to setup Ubuntu to start doing coding. Having a 25 years background in PC hardware and software I am gobsmacked how is possible that there are people out here using this "OS", absolute waste of time and money. After 1 months of trying EVERYTHING i gave up and reinstalled Windows and will study there whatever i can as the coding bootcamp became a "How to sort out 1 million issues with Ubuntu" and instead of even starting learning, I am still trying to make it worked. I found a useful video on youtube what helped me to finally install it after 1 month, but every single time when booting it come up with a different error and won't boot or maybe 1 out of 10 times i am lucky to get into Ubuntu but again can't do anything as whatever I click on, won't open, can't update any software as saying I am not connected to the internet when I am clearly connected, then sometimes will start the update but will come up with 1 million other issues. So in a 100 hours of trying everything, I couldn't enjoy Ubuntu more than 5 minutes without having another error. The Odin Project discord channel was more useless than I initially thought, there are always some internet cowboys blaming you that you are giving up too soon and they will guide you then after 30 minutes they will never ever answer you again. Wasting 100 hours on a 30 minute job and you telling me I am a quiter then clearly you have no life and live in a carboard box. I don;t usually leaving review but this was like a full time job to make this happen and obviously my experience was just a big mess and fustration. Bye forever Linux!

Unbrauchbar. Stundenlanges Suchen, hier was nicht gut, da muss man das machen, am Ende nicht einmal eine LAN Verbindung. Sorry, der letzte Müll. viel zu kompliziert, unübersichtlich. Nur etwas für Bastler mit unendlich Zeit und Nerven.

I feel Ubuntu does not provide its users with adequate documentation on how to build apps for its os. The biggest problem with any linux flavors is that its lacks apps and all the apps it does have suck. You do not have programmers hashing out good apps on linux. So by not providing a clear documentation on how to build apps it will stay that way. I don't think I have ever seen any linux app that I liked at all. All the gnome gui is either too large or very ugly. Gtk is even more ugly but less of a headache then python stuff.

The linux mindset is supposed to be about freedom, well the freedom I choose is to make proprietary projects, and you are going against that freedom by not making it easier to make proprietary on your os.

It still seems you are going out of your way to make sure that open source folks have that freedom but not the proprietary folks. It should not be so hard to find a work around to be on your os. If the open source folks do not like it then they do not have to use it.

Along with better documentation for app building you should create a better documentation on how to accomplish proprietary and proprietary connections. I would definitely create stuff on ubuntu then.
