Parts from China, not the UK. Slow delivery.

Ordered a part from "UK" laptop parts and the Royal Mail website tracking said the seller had marked it as dispatched on a Thursday morning by 48 hour service. On the following Wednesday I still hadn't received my item so asked them to chase it up. I didn't get any reply from them, but then received a notification from PayPal saying it had been dispatched, showing a Google Maps view of where the item was - in the middle of China. If I had wanted to wait a month for a part I wouldn't have gone to a "UK" website!

I ordered a computer lead for my Dell…

I ordered a computer lead for my Dell computer. Although it took a while to arrive, it was postage free. I had to contact them as the lead didnt work . Amy was great asking for a few pictures. There was no problem about sending another. This one works perfect. Thanks Amy

Seriously Shady.

Seriously Shady.
Wanted to purchase a laptop charger online from this company. Went through all the screens until you get to the bit about payment. You can't just use a credit card to pay. It seems UK Laptops want you to open a PayPal account to make payment AND they want your D.O.B AND personal address (the purchase was for business so I had used the company address). WHY would they want this?? Alarm bells were going off so I didn't do either of these things particularly as there is NO protection against fraud when using PayPal and do I really want to give out my personal details? NO! Furthermore they are called UK Laptops but give no address or contact phone number. This smacks to me of being seriously shady and dodgy. I'd rather pay more with a genuine UK based company than buying from a company whose only relationship to the UK is their website address. STAY AWAY!!! You've been warned.

AVOID - save your money, time and self respect. Check the writers of the good reviews on other sites...there fake.

Ordered an i5 6GB RAM nVidia 555GT from UK Laptops. The laptop that arrived had a lower specced graphics card and less RAM. Lucky I checked. After numerous emails I accepted the Laptop sent to avoid further hassle. It did have an i7 chip so UK Laptops argued it was better.

So I start to install my software and it blue screens. Turns out the hard drive is faulty and needs replacing. Sent back at my own expense to be fixed. Comes back from UK Laptops in the same original ripped packaging. I start again and the laptop blue screens again. Faulty hard drive and battery!! No fixes have been made, I know this as I'm computer programmer and can check the system log files. All lies.

I ask for a refund and they say they can't offer me one. They say they'll send a replacement. Not sure if they were having a laugh but they resent the same laptop.. and its still broken.

The case was then raised with Visa as UK Laptops stopped answering my emails and letters.

Be very cautious of these people, check your laptops spec is what they say it is and if its faulty be prepared for a frustrating ride.

UPDATE: Visa refunded the cost, out of their own pockets. Pretty sure the laptop is now with another lucky customer and UK Laptops still have my money.

They are now trading as GB Laptops Ltd.

DO NOT TOUCH THIS COMPANY WITH A BARGE POLE!!!

My nightmarish experience is as follows…

I purchased a top end spec Dell Latitude which was advertised as used but in excellent condition. I had used this model previously at work and knew that it was a reliable business laptop.

The machine that arrived had a hole in the base and the top cover was also badly scratched, more than normal wear and tear would do. I sent it back at my expense and they sent a replacement. Cosmetically the replacement machine was ok however it soon became clear that there were problems. The machine started intermittently turning off due to overheating (thermal trips). I sent it back to them at my expense. They sent it straight back to me saying that they had put new thermal grease on the CPU and graphics chip and it was now in good working order. The same day I received it back it overheated again. I sent it back to them again at my expense. They then sent it back saying they had replaced the CPU and it was now was now in good working order. It then became apparent that the battery was on its way out only lasting 25 minutes and the lid sensor sleep switch did not work. I contacted them and they promised to send me a brand new battery, I did not send it back to them re the sensor because I wasn’t that bothered about it and didn’t want to spend anymore money on shipping costs. Three weeks later I received a SECONDHAND replacement battery in the post! I didn’t complain.

Several months went by and again thermal trips started happening again, they told me to send it back to them again at my expense. I was at this stage getting frustrated with situation, also I was just about to move abroad. I made it known to them that once I had moved abroad it would be very expensive for me to send it back to them. They promised me that they would fix it once and for all. I sent it back to them, they then returned it saying they had replaced the motherboard and CPU, however in the BIOS event log it said that a thermal trip occurred the very day they shipped it back to me, it also had all the previous thermal trips that had occurred too. As the BIOS is a part of the motherboard and it had a record of all the previous thermal events it proves that it was the same motherboard and they had not replaced it like they said. However the machine was not thermal tripping anymore so I left it.

I moved abroad and several months went by without any problems until again the machine started overheating again. The 1 year warranty was almost up so I quickly contacted them again, as I was no longer in the UK and reluctant to send it back to them at a huge cost, we arranged that I would perform some benchmark tests on the machine to try and identify what the problem was. I did this and it was quite clearly the onboard graphics chip that was overheating, whenever put under any pressure it heated to over 108 °C and the machine shutdown. When I called them a back few weeks later the person I spoke to previously was on holiday and his colleague told me it was out of warranty. I explained to him that I had contacted them before the warranty ran out and it was something that they had failed to fix on numerous occasions previously and he agreed they would fix it. I also explained about the cost of sending the entire machine and that I would have to pay import duty on its return to me to so he also agreed that if I just sent the motherboard they would send me a brand new replacement. I took the motherboard out of the machine and sent it back to them. I then called them 2 weeks later as I hadn’t received anything and was told they would send it that day, I also clarified with them that it would be a brand new part. I then received the replacement which was not new, had an inferior graphics chip (intel not nvidia) despite all this I reassembled the laptop as I just needed a working computer. Once reassembled it did not work, it was completely dead. I contacted them again and spoke to the original guy who was back from holiday, (he confirmed that he was a director). He couldn’t offer me any explanation or apology as to why it wasn’t new as promised, why it wasn’t a like for like replacement but worst of all why it was dead on arrival (DOA) and refused to send me a replacement. He said that it had been tested before they sent it and it must have been damaged in the post. He told me that my only option was to send the entire machine into them again and apparently that was doing me a favour (good will gesture)! As it would have cost me £80 shipping costs and a further £60 import duty I decided not to risk anymore money by sending back to them and bought a replacement motherboard with nvidia chip on ebay from another source which cost me £80 inc shipping. Once received I swapped it with the unusable UK LAPTOPS motherboard and now it works perfectly. The temperature never exceeds 90°C on benchmark tests!

Interestingly most legitimate companies selling second hand computer parts offer returns if the item is DOA. Funnily enough UK LAPTOPS actually sell motherboards on their website which are guaranteed!

Thanks very much UK LAPTOPS! £100 shipping costs later and I still had to buy the replacement part. UK LAPTOPS are without a doubt very dishonest and I can’t think of a more fitting word than cowboys. Be warned people, don’t ever use this company!!!

Faulty from the word go!

Brought a laptop "As New" off UKLaptops December 2011, which was cheaper than everywhere else.

Arrived with nasty scratches on the lid and so Windows 7 COA, laptop also needed activation, So it went back to be sorted.

Some days later after waiting for parts, the laptop arrived back, again marks on the lid, Windows had expired, Screen was actually wonky on the hinges and also loose around the screen.

So it went back again.

Arrived back in halfway through January, with 2 marks on the screen and still no Windows COA.

Off it goes again...

Arrives back, seems ok this time, please note this is 6th Feb, also received an Indian Windows 7 COA.

September comes, laptops getting too hot... Battery says its reached the end of its usable life?? After 8 months?

Off it goes again in October due to other commitments, arrives back with new compound on the CPU, no new battery, however the battery wasn’t clipping in correctly, so it went back, with a return saying they should of charged me as they say there was nothing wrong.

Emailed about the battery, answer was " They do wear out.. the good news is that on eBay the cost of a new one is
about £20, Sorry we cannot be any further help on this matter "

So I paid for laptop in December, eventually received one I can use in February, after sending it back 4 times at my cost and having to wait 2 months from when I first brought the "As New" laptop and then being told after 8 months that a new battery is £20 on eBay and they cannot send me one as a good will gesture after everything I went through.

I will be staying well clear!!

Rubbish. Do not use.

This company sent me a very broken old laptop which resembled something off a skip. It was an insult. Please do not trust them Incidentally, how come all the other reviews on here are five stars from people in America? As if people in the States would order old second hand machines from the UK when they're cheaper new in the USA?! A joke, fabrication and lies. You have been warned.
