Wheelbase Avis 

I placed an order with Wheelbase Alloys, only to be told several days later that the tyres I had ordered were out of stock. This raises the obvious question: why were they showing as available to purchase on the website in the first place?

I initially gave them the benefit of the doubt, as mistakes can happen. I was then offered an alternative set of four tyres, which were more expensive, so I made an additional payment to cover the difference.

The delivery process had already taken longer than expected due to the original stock issue, but eventually I received the wheels and tyres and assumed that would be the end of the matter.

Unfortunately, it was far from it.

Upon inspecting the tyres, I discovered that two of them had been fitted to the alloys the wrong way around. This wasn’t a minor issue — the rotation arrows on both tyres were facing towards the rear of the vehicle rather than the front, meaning the tyres were fitted against their intended direction of rotation.

I contacted Wheelbase Alloys again and was told that I would need to have the incorrectly fitted tyres flipped around myself and then send them the receipt, which they would reimburse.

This meant another unnecessary trip to have the tyres corrected, followed by sending the receipt as requested.

However, when I received the wheels back, the tyres that had been removed and refitted were covered in dirt and grease. They no longer looked like new tyres, despite being supplied as such.

I then had the additional inconvenience and expense of having the car washed and purchasing cleaning products to try and restore the tyres and wheels to the condition they should have been in when supplied.

What makes the situation even more frustrating is that, over half a month later, I am still waiting for my reimbursement and remain out of pocket.

I have had to repeatedly chase Wheelbase Alloys for an update, only to be told that the matter has been passed to a manager, Aaron Hirst. Despite this, I have still received no response or resolution.

The whole experience has been incredibly disappointing. What should have been a straightforward purchase has resulted in an incorrect stock listing, additional payment, delayed delivery, incorrectly fitted tyres, another unnecessary journey to have their mistake corrected, dirty tyres and additional cleaning expenses — and I am still waiting to be reimbursed.

Wheelbase Alloys state on their website:

“Experience: With over 25 years of experience with alloy wheels, no other retailer provides the level of customer service and support that we offer our customers.”

Unfortunately, based on my experience, I cannot agree with this statement. The level of service and after-sales support I have received has fallen considerably short of what I would expect from a company making such a claim.

I would simply like this matter resolved, my outstanding expenses reimbursed, and some accountability for the inconvenience caused.

Great Bikes, great prices. Communication was really good, I felt well informed and knew what was going on. The bike arrived sooner than expected, but again I was informed what day it could be delivered and given the option to change. The packaging was really good, the whole bike was wrapped in foam and bubble wrap, and therefore arrive without damage. Inside the box was a really nice ‘wheelbase’ bag which had all the paperwork and service book inside, all the tooling required to mount the handlebars and pedals, and the charger. This is a nice touch, and somewhere to keep the charger and manuals throughout ownership. I would highly recommend this company and will definitely be buying more bikes from them in the future.

Had an issue with my relatively new Brompton, which I couldn’t resolve myself. Adrian at Wheelbase diagnosed the problem and dealt with Brompton to obtain replacement parts. The service was quick and easy and I really appreciate the quick turn around. Great service from a very busy and knowledgeable workshop team.

Every aspect was seamless, the selection, order, and fulfilment of the order all handled with care.
