I can not recommend Alfred Newtons, Stockport highly enough. A family member passed away without leaving a will. Through the whole probate process and then onto their Conveyancing department for the sale of their property they were amazing. We used Alfred Newton for a buy a property back in 2023 and used them again to buy and sell this time around. Alexandra is nothing short of incredible and the staff there, namely Bethany, were incredibly helpful throughout the entire process. This is the second time I have used Alfred Newton, previous time was for the purchase of a property and more recently it was for a sale. My reason for going back to them (and more specifically to Holly Penman) was due to how easy she made the process the first time round. My emails were answered promptly and phone calls were only made to me when necessary, I was being rushed quite a lot with the sale and Holly was really supportive in speaking to the buyer solicitors rather than me having to be the middle person. I would highly recommend Alfred Newton when needing a conveyancer.

We recently used Alfred Newton for our move. Both the sale of our property and the purchase of our new property. We used Holly Penman at their Romiley branch.

While our initial contact with them was pleasant we found the process overly tiring and stressful. We had to continually chase them for answers to questions that we had raised. We often found that there was delay in raising these questions with our vendors

The communication with Holly wasn’t great. We found Helen to be a bit rude and direct. But Holly herself was very pleasent to deal with.

Ultimately the process was delayed because of an oversight on our application with my wife’s middle names. The mortgage lender was very surprised that this wasn’t picked up by the solicitors earlier.

Also on the day of exchange it was very difficult to contact Holly, often on an 90 mins lunch break. Exchange happened late Friday afternoon, completion the following Monday. There was no confirmation email or conversation with Holly when the exchange happened. We felt very much they didn’t want to deal with us personally

The completion day ran very smoothly.

We also found out 2 months after we moved that they had failed to pay us £100 which was agreed by our buyers for the purchase of some wardrobes.

Overall well felt Alfred Newton could have done better. We would not recommend and would not use again
