Fraudulent company using AI to create fake stories of artisans under hardship. Company is deep in China and steal credit card details and rip everyone off.
I came across an ad for a lovely lady called Gwen in Hebden Bridge who was ending her business making Moggy Lamps due to arthritis and that there were only a limited number left, exclusively available through cedarandtin. When I went on the website to get one of these supposedly hand made stained glass cat lamps it turned out that they are also made by Bonnie in Minnesota who is also retiring her business due to arthritis and Lorna in Australia. The descriptions and marketing blurb are interchangeable. My guess would be that these are mass produced, cheap items from China and the whole story is something that would have gone well on Jackanory. Identical lamps are available on eBay for half the price with no fairy story.
Steven S.'s review prompted me to double check. That review was entirely right. Phone number a US one but addresss a residential one in London. The prices were too good to be true for what was advertised as the last 400 or so hand-made items (stained glass type, cat-shaped bedside lamp, supposedly all painted and soldiered by hand) all made by a lovely old lady in her workshop above a canal in rural England. Don't buy!!
Another Chinese company operating a scam selling Margaret’s Hand-tuned Rain Drum designed for garden use operating under a fake English ID. As is typical, the advertising video is totally AI for avoidance of any doubt. The nice old lady in the video is totally fake (as per most of the jewellery advert scams). The English address supplied appears to be a residential holding address, only for correspondence.
Reading between the lines and the real detail that most people don’t read, the fine print registers the company in the US, the telephone number given is also US based. It is only when you read the ‘Cancellation’ (Refund) Policy, that you get to see the return address is based in China. That’s all the information you need to know you are not buying from some little old lady based in the Lake District… Why would you buy something that sounds quintessentially English, takes 7-14 days to be delivered (allegedly from the US), but most likely ships from China…?
The website is, of course, selling many other fake products with most images clearly looking as though they have been AI generated if you start to look at the real detail.
