If you are low on cash do not use
If you are low on cash do not use, it takes a 35£ block on your debit card then fails, if you try again it’s another 35 and so on and can take 10 days before it’s refunded.
Have been to 5 different points and never got charge once and that’s the ones that were green, half I visited were off and broken!
How could a company and charging points be so bad!
Stand Free
No signage up around the charger…
No signage up around the charger showing overstay fees, very misleading for people who are using a RFID £78 now out of pocket clearer guidance is needed! Will not be using chargers again!!!
Truly appalling
Given 1 star as this is the lowest mark possible. Dreadful company which is a waste of tax payers money. Unreliable. Actually reliably unreliable as they are always broken. In 4 years of owning an ev I have never managed to get one to work. The app is hopeless. Payment method antiquated. Why do you need a card or membership? If you buy petrol or diesel you don’t have to be a member of a club, just have a method of payment ie credit card. A truly national embarrassment on a par with the ferry fiasco.
Continually fails to connect after…
Continually fails to connect after taking the £35 reserve. 3 times it failed meaning for the next 3-5 working days I am down £105 until refunded. At the end of January this is not what's needed. Standing in the cold and rain at 7:30 in the morning trying to get this to work, needing to change ports ect. This happens most times you try to plug in.
This is a shocking service for the…
This is a shocking service for the second time in a couple of months half the charging stations not working. What is the point of electric cars if you cant get a reliable charging point
Lack of communication
So Chargeplace Scotland is moving over to EZO in the Highlands, apparently to offer a "more efficient service". They have my contact details but did they bother to inform me? NO! I had to discover this for myself, when stopping to charge my car.on a long journey south from Wick. Only way to charge the car was to download the EZO app. But guess what? There are still places in Highland.where mobile data is non existent and so I had to limp on in.early January in sub zero temperatures with no heating on to be sure of making it to the next charging point 50 miles away! I have to use the EZO chargers 4 times in the past few weeks as I have been travelling to Inverness to visit my sick elderly mum in hospital (the last time to bring her home). On 3 out of the 4 occasions I have had problems with the app (which is awful (and/or the charging points. Tonight it took 40 minutes moving between 2 chargers to get one of the damned things to work. Not ideal when you're trying to get an elderly invalid home! My next car is going to be a hybrid!

would put -1 tried 3 times to register and buy card poor
Absolutely unbelievable/ disgusting
Absolutely unbelievable. Go to a charger obviously to charge my ev car then when you get there it’s not working, then drive to another station and that’s not working. I’m a taxi driver in Glasgow. Dropped off at Edinburgh airport on Tuesday 13 January 2026 had 22% battery left so I went to charge my car at the park and ride at the airport. A big row of chargers maybe 12 but every single one not working, 40 minute journey back to Glasgow took me about 3 1/2 hours trying to find a bloody charger that works. The ones under the Kingston bridge in Glasgow has about 6-7 not working for at least 6 months. When you try to make a complaint on the charge place Scotland App and send it , always comes up message sending failure so who you supposed to complain to? Phone the help line and they say you should check on the app before hand to see if it’s working but when you’re actually their and it’s not working and you call them on the 24hr number even they don’t know it’s faulty until you tell them, then it’s “ oh sorry I’ll put it down as faulty “ totally ridiculous service with unlimited government funds….
Unreliable, badly maintained and useless
On three separate occasions I have tried to use the charger at the train station. There is a sticker with QR code on the unit for webpay but after charging me £105 I phoned them to find out that this unit doesn’t accept webpay. Downloaded the app and tried another day, Still didn’t work as they need the ‘charge’ the unit. Unreliable, badly maintained, unhelpful service
Bankhead Roundabout Glenrothes
Bankhead Roundabout Glenrothes. Since the cost per kw went up in price this station isn’t used as much as in the past. First time I’ve used it in a few months and noticed that there is now a penalty for chargingover an hour. This includes the AC charger which at 11kwh for most cars gets you about 40 miles. Not good in my book. I’ll add that if your car isn’t charging but still plugged in I doubt if the EVSE is aware you are still there. There’s a car next to me on the DC not charging and has been for 30 minutes sitting idle. Unfortunately I can’t use it as it’s locked in place and even then, the general etiquette seems to be not to remove it anyway. After 4 years of owning an EV the level of service is shockingly bad. This station regularly breaks down and the prices although not the costliest do nothing to persuade people to move to EV’s.
Very Poor level of service.
I understand why this service is being closed. The level of service has always been questionable, however as they head to closure, although the CS was not great ever, yesterday it sunk to new lows.
Staff are now openly rude, obnoxious and insulting.
Shockingly bad
As other people have stated it’s a pity there is not a minus option.
You literally cannot have an electric car in Scotland and reasonably expect to travel around.
We are three years in with our car and it’s going. It is not feasible to use. Literally only had a handful of times have charge place Scotland chargers worked.
Shocking service.
I arrived to a charge station where they have 8 rapid chargers 4 were in use and the remaining 4 did not work !
Try to avoid
I have never succesfully used these usepess chargers. They take pre authorised payments and charge never starts. I now have £35 x7 pending! How are they getting away with this
It’s a pity there’s not a minus option
It’s a pity there’s not a minus option. ChargePlace Scotland must be the worst EV charging company of all time, I’ve had the unfortunate times were I’ve had no choice but to use their chargers, at one point the charger took £150 (2 x £75), it was a good job I had the money in the bank ( I’m still waiting for £75 to be reimbursed 2 days later). Phone the help line, speaking to Mickey Mouse in Disney World might be more helpful.
Charged but no charge
5 times over the last 2 weeks it's changed me £35 but then says some kind of error and doesn't charge my car. Nothing as been refunded so far. I thought electric cars were supposed to be cheaper, this is costing a fortune.
A disgraceful way to use a Scotland label.
As a new electric car owner and also a keen supporter of an independent Scotland, for my first ever use of a public charger I went out of my way to find a charging outfit with a Scottish connection. That was my first mistake.
I attempted to use ChargePlace Scotland. I parked at a likely-looking charger. Then, after sharing debit card details, the charger told me that the identity number (of the charger) I was asked to input 'did not exist'. Somewhat naively, I tried again, before abandoning the attempt.
I was astonished to find that ChargePlace Scotland removed 2 x £35.00 from my account. Now, while this is standard practice at petrol stations the balance of the reserved funds is usually reserved promptly, in my experience. (The charger I eventually used - Autel - successfully returned the balance within an hour.) At time of writing I am still waiting for anything back from ChargePlace.
I have subsequently been told by a ChargePlace customer service advisor to allow up to seven working days or maybe up to 30, apparently. Or maybe not at all, in which case was told to get in touch with more details…
This is, of course, outrageous. I will never use this outfit again. Zero stars would be a more accurate rating. Other electric car owners: be warned.
Don’t waste your time
Every time we try to use charge place Scotland all you get are problems it’s either charger isn’t working, or the app won’t connect . They are supposed to be fast chargers yet they always take significantly longer than any other chargers ., it’s just such a poor service surely we can do better !!
Personal Approach is best
Infrastructure for EVs is pretty poor, so charge place are running up hill.
Had issues with apps. Have 3 on my phone and they have caused me problems.
Travelling to Glasgow from Oban, there were chargers out of order. 6 at Luss all showing out of order. Fast charger at inverary was out too.
Got on the phone and the woman there guided me through getting some slower charge. She stayed on the phone to help and reassured me that she would get another charger en route if required.
Great help and consideration. Surprised, because I wasn't aware that she could control the chargers and arrange payment over the phone.
So if you get stuck, or find apps a pain, worth remembering.
Avoid
Never ever use! Preauthorisation amount taken twice and not returned, absolutely useless - Standard for the Scottish Government
Second attempt, last time ever..............
This was the second attempt using the app and the second time it didn't work after taking the £75 from my bank account.
I phoned and spoke to a rep that checked out the station and said it was working, then proceeded to verify that my charge had gone through but was unable to start the session without me depositing another £75, at the same time trying to reassure me that the money from the first transaction would be returned within 7-10 days. So in the meantime deposit another £75 in the hope that the new transaction will start a machine that didn't work the first time I tried it!
I did suggest that I would forward the payment in 7-10 days if the charge was successful but that hit the floor like a lead balloon!
I didn't try the charger even with the rep assuring me that they could start it remotely if there were any problems.
Found a EV charger at Morrison' s that started with contactless card recognition and debited the amount after completion, what's so hard about that chargeplacescotland, get your machine's updated. UPDATE 15/11/2025
I know I said never again but, I had a very low battery and this place was the closest so! Again I am £150 in pending on my bank and still no charge was achieved. After a phone call I was told the machine point that I was connected to was not working! How on earth are you supposed to know! There were no signs and the machine still takes the money from your card then tells you that it will not start…….AAAAAAAAAAGH! WORST EV CHARGING IN THE UK.
