I will be closing my account..
I have banked with Citi since the 1990’s when they were ahead of the competition, had a UK or US call centre, offered fantastic customer service etc.
I moved my main UK account when they closed down their UK branches and maintained my Citi account as we have a property in the Caribbean so it has been handy to use for $USD transfers until now...
My latest transfer failed due to the failure of Citi to use the correct information for my beneficiary which I have sent funds to on previous occasions, even though they used the same details it still went wrong!
I have spent hours on the phone and have eventually had the funds returned after 6 weeks of hassle, I am now arguing over $30 which they have deducted to transfer my own money back to me!
In all of this the customer service has been appalling, the operatives are polite but useless, they get everything wrong and you have to repeat the sorry story every time that you speak with them.
I will be closing my account..useless!
I joined Citibank way back in 1996…
I joined Citibank way back in 1996 because they were initially ahead of the curve with telephone banking etc before others had it, and offered foreign currency savings accounts which were convenient to me at the time.
I've noticed a steady, perceptible decline in service over the years as they've farmed their very high net worth clients into a London based service, where everyone else has been shoved off to a call centre in (I think) the Philippines.
Customer service is terrible. The company "lost" £150,000 of mine in March 2018 which I had transferred from a regular UK savings account and required for a property completion. They had apparently ringfenced the transaction - which they do routinely - but would not tell me they had done so. It simply disappeared for 4 days with no way to trace it, their refusing to give codes to my savings bank to try to see what had happened etc. Their supervisor was aggressive, verging on rude - and once you've gone up one level of complaint there is no way to progress it any further.
They have now lost a further £500 of mine which bounced back the same day from a now-closed HSBC account I had accidentally transferred it to. A week later and 7 calls on and I'm no closer to finding out when the money (which has been received by Citibank) will be reapplied to my account. They routinely promise to call and text with updates and fail to do so.
It's the final straw - I'm leaving this lousy set up who couldn't care less about customer service or satisfaction. Their internet banking is currently down (a common occurrence) and it takes 2 minutes of listening recorded messages and annoying pinging music, and a robotic automated greeting that is straight from the 1980s, to get through to a non-native English call centre. Once there, each time you have to explain everything from scratch to someone who frequently can't understand you.
Dire, dire, dire - oh and be warned, you can't simply transfer your account to a new bank as Shittybank don't take part in the account transfer scheme. You will have to move each and every direct debit over manually and any payments that come in once you've left will bounce back rather than being forwarded to your new bank. This doesn't happen with any other proper UK bank.
I cannot recommend more strongly NOT going with Citibank.
We are customers that live part time…
We are customers that live part time overseas and cannot get access to our money when we are out of the country even to make a wire transfer. What sort of bank is that?? Currently waiting for a Citibank representative to call me back to help but so far nothing though we asked for help hours ago. Worse than useless. Perhaps if the staff were denied access to their own money every time this happens they might be a little more helpful and move themselves to get it sorted. They are a disgrace.
Dont use Citibank
You will regret it if Citibank is your bank - I do. They arent part of the Uk switching guarantee service. Their telephone centre is efficient at taking calls The relationship manager was decent. They just are a BIG BIG company so emails and msgs get sent around (like other big companies) but without accountability so I found payments did not happen for days despite numerous messages being sent and my relationship manager and the telephone centre seemed powerless to make it happen.... ineffective and a big FAIL.
Worst Bank I have ever had an account with
This has to be the worst bank in the world.
Having simply transferred funds between two accounts in my name within Citibank, my account has been locked since 27th July 2017, with no access to funds or the ability to send them a secure message.
I had two phone conversations with them, I sent two emails to their security team, and I also wrote to them, but still no access, that's 60 days now!
I've registered a formal complaint with the Financial Ombudsman, unfortunately they don't appear much use either.
Once I get back into my account, funds will be transferred to Santander, who I have to say are a far better bank.
Having withdrawn most of it's operations from the UK, I cannot see Citibank continuing to trade with such poor customer service.
Avoid at all costs, subpar outsourced service and broken website
I have been a Citibank UK customer for almost five years. Now they have closed all of their consumer branches and outsourced all service to a call centre in Manila.
Do not bank with them, you will regret it. The call centre is completely incompetent and powerless. If you have any sort of special inquiry or escalation they will tell you it take 48 hours for a response. They give out incomplete or simply incorrect information, and have obviously not been trained in basic customer service.
The Citibank UK website is absolutely awful, and key functionality such as messaging customer service or uploading documents is broken.
Although I have been a Citibank US customer for the majority of my life, avoid Citibank UK at all costs. If you want a truly global bank go with HSBC.
Arrogant and Condescending
Arrogant and Condescending
Citibank decided to close my personal banking USD account despite having over $20,000 in credit due to the fact they felt their products didn't suit me. In essence, you haven't invested that money in any of our products so we don't want any of your business. then comes the fun part for the closure. To be honest its too long and convoluted but suffice to say they have no regional or national comprehension and quite frankly couldn't give a stuff about standard accounts. I hope they leave the UK altogether!
They Don't Want Your Business
We banked with Citibank for more than a decade. Getting our account set up was a frustrating experience, but after numerous errors to our name and address, Citibank eventually managed to get everything right, and we stuck with them out of inertia.
Recently, Citibank has made it clear that they don't really want to be in the personal banking business. They closed all physical branches. Additionally, they have stopped honouring cheques, even when there are sufficient funds in the account. A merchant told me Citibank is doing this with all customers, having decided to phase out cheques completely. This was a surprise to me. Perhaps Citibank informed me of this at some point in fine print somewhere, but if so, it was not with the emphasis that such a major change would merit.
I'm finally switching to another bank. I wish I had done it years ago.
Citibank needs to hire more helpful less condescending representatives
Will never use this bank again. Had to go with their credit card when Costco stopped honoring my American Express card. as a recently retired independent sales rep i used my companies name and my name on the card. I was the guarantor through my Social Security number and not through my company which was not Inc. When I asked Citibank if there was a way to take the name of my company off of the card the representative immediately cancelled my card. Immediately! My complaint is with Citibank's representative. I just didn't want to go through another credit application with her . So I joined Sam's Club and got another capital one card in less than three minutes from someone who wanted my business.
The bank that likes to tell its customers to f... off.
For many years we have held a Euro current account with Citibank UK, as we need to send and receive Euro payments. We have always operated it well in credit, despite zero interest.
Two months ago they notified us that they were closing it 'As you are not using enough of our high-end services'. Guess that is CorpoSpeak for rip-off credit cards, loans and lucrative 'wealth management' services.
Best to steer clear of Citibank UK unless you want your financial services screwed, and need to move everything to a real bank at short notice.
Citibank Philipines Call Centre
My god what an unmitigated disaster!
Citibank previously had a call centre in Delhi, the staff were articulate, polite, extremely efficient and educated. Any banking problem or issue was resolved quickly and efficiently. Calling the current call centre in the Philippines however, is an entirely different matter. The staff are polite enough, just grossly inefficient and seemingly unable to handle the simplest of tasks.
Time to quickly change banks!
Review for a wonderful service rep
This review is for one specific service rep. I am a City Simplicity Card holder and today I had the pleasure of speaking with Almeda from the Citi Customer Care line (I believe that she is based in Detroit?). I had a huge debacle with a balance transfer and Almeda was more than wonderful with helping me sort it all out. She was pleasant and helpful and went above and beyond the other service reps that I have encountered via the Customer Care line. I really appreciate her service.
