Not recommended for therapists

I joined Complicated Life as a provider hoping to connect with clients who need support. In my experience, it has been money spent with nothing to show for it.

There has been no meaningful follow-through or support in generating leads or booked sessions. I've paid for the listing and received no return. When I raised this, I didn't feel there was any real effort to help.

The matching programme isn't a better alternative. Taking a 15% commission feels hard to justify for an online platform with far lower overheads than an in-person service.

What frustrates me most is the context and ethics. We're in the middle of a mental health crisis, with people struggling to get the help they need. A platform built to bridge that gap should be able to offer active referral pathways and have sessions booked within the first week. That simply hasn't been my experience.

I wouldn't recommend Complicated Life to other providers.

It’s complicated has been the best thing I’ve ever done. I was matched to a few therapists and the trial sessions were perfect because I got a feel for who would be the best match.

Once I found my therapist it’s been amazing. The website is professional and easy to use. The sessions go smoothly without any technical glitches.

I recommend it’s complicated to everyone I speak to. It’s affordable and the therapists are at a standard way beyond anyone I’ve found (at these prices) in the UK.

I have been using It's Complicated for about two years now. I've seen 2 different therapists, both have been absolutely amazing and the platform works super well for matching/giving recommendations for therapists to work with. It is also affordable. I had to contact support once about a coupon issue and they were so kind and helpful

Super smooth and easy experience so far! I was able to browse through the inventory, set filters on criteria that are important to me and find several therapists to reach out to. Love how simple everything is!

As a practitioner, I really recommend It’s Complicated. It’s a great platform for those starting out in private practice and it has helped me build a steady client base since I started 3 years ago. The community aspect of the platform is also fantastic as it’s welcoming and makes you feel less alone, especially when working remotely. The team at It’s Complicated is very attentive and genuinely listens to the needs of its users. They are clearly working hard to make the platform even better, which I greatly appreciate.

Its such a great Platform! What / especially love is that even if you can't find the right therapist through the questionnaire, there are people on the platform who can personally help you Tind someone who actually fits your needs and preferences.
You can tell them what you are looking for, wich makes the whole process of finding a Therapist that is the right fit for you so much easier.

It’s been a full year on this platform, and the return on investment isn't there. The income I’ve generated doesn't even cover the cost of the therapist membership. The platform heavily over-saturates the therapist supply relative to actual client demand. If you are a therapist, counselor, or psychologist looking for a reliable source of clients, save your time and money and look elsewhere. My profile, credentials, and qualifications are fully compliant with industry standards and successfully attract many clients on other directories/platforms, so it's not a 'poor profile' issue or an availability issue. I expected the same happening here, in fact more because it's not free to join. The failure to generate matches lies with their user acquisition.

It’s Complicated helped me find a therapist who met all the requirements I was looking for in a professional. I had been trying to find the right person for months, and after completing their survey, I received some great recommendations. I’ve already recommended them to others!

I am very satisfied with the therapist that I got matched with - my therapy journey has been very constructive, there are definite 'Aha' moments at every session. The methods that the therapist uses are very suitable for my situation, background, therapy goal and expectation towards the therapy, so therefore I highly recommend the matching service that It's Complicated is offering!

EDIT: Thanks for your 100th snarky reply. Why don't you use the time and effort you spend replying to these reviews actually addressing the issues that I'm bringing up. I've tried to contact you directly about these issues. I've tried asking for help plenty of times.
Each and every time I have, you have responded the same way: "We're doing our best, but nothing will happen." So you can either admit that your platform isn't good and you people have no interest in bettering it, or you can stop complaining that people are pointing out your flaws and trying to make you better.
Maybe YOU need therapy.

I chose this platform because it presents itself as an ethical alternative in the therapy space and even criticises companies like BetterHelp on its blog.

What disappointed me was discovering that therapist rankings in the directory are influenced by how much therapists pay. According to the pricing page, therapists on higher subscription plans receive "Improved ranking in directory search results" or even "Top ranking in directory search results."

My issue is not that the platform charges therapists or offers premium features. My issue is the lack of transparency for users. When searching for a therapist, there is no clear indication that a therapist may be appearing higher because they pay more for their subscription.

As a user, I naturally assumed the order was based on factors such as relevance, experience, specialisation, availability, or other criteria designed to help people find the right therapist. Finding out that payment affects visibility without any obvious disclosure felt misleading.

For a platform operating in the mental health space, transparency matters. If therapists can pay for better placement, users should be clearly informed about that. Otherwise, it becomes difficult to see how this is meaningfully different from the practices the platform criticises in others.

I am also surprised by this approach given the EU's strong emphasis on transparency and consumer protection, especially in areas as sensitive as healthcare and mental health services.

Looking for a therapist was a big, intentional step for me. I wasn’t sure how to find someone I’d truly click with, but the It’s Complicated platform made it so much easier. The matching tool pointed me toward therapists who fit my needs, and the journey that followed was enriching.

Used It's Complicated for the first time last week and had an amazing experience. Found it super easy to find a therapist that looked right for me, book a time slot quickly and my counsellor was so helpful. Immediately felt a weight lifted off my shoulders after feeling stressed for weeks. Really great to know this service is there in moments when I could use it, without the usual long complicated referral schemes and long waiting times. Will use again!

Best therapist directory I’ve used so far. I could actually find someone who matched what I was looking for in terms of price, approach, language, and location, and I booked my first appointment the same week. I’m really happy with the therapist I found and it’s been great being able to see her in person instead of only online. I also started joining some of the free online mental health events through the platform, which I didn’t expect to use much but have actually been really helpful too. Thank you!

I was matched with a therapist through complicated.life and agreed to continue working together after the initial session, paying for two additional sessions. The therapist stated she would provide a structured plan after I had committed my time and money, but this was never delivered.

During the sessions, I became concerned about a lack of sensitivity, emotional containment, and trauma-informed care, despite the platform’s positioning on her. I raised this respectfully and asked whether we could adjust the structure of the sessions to better support my needs. Unfortunately, I received no response.

Following this, the therapist disengaged without any form of closure or follow-up, which I consider ethically problematic given that I was under her care. In addition, there were instances where she did not recall key details from previous sessions, including important aspects of my diagnosis, which raised further concerns about the quality and continuity of care.

Overall, this experience did not meet the standards I would expect from a professional therapeutic service.
