🌸 It was super important for me (my nervous system) to find a professional to reveal- and handle my ongoing situation with !!
I really looked forward to meet the therapist BUT her message was unable to open (!).
I cleared the “history/cookies” but I still couldn’t open the message from the therapist- my phone seems to be to old (?).
Therefore I cannot trust this platform since I already sent them an e-mail regarding this problem, which haven’t been replied yet, after 5 days…
There is sadly only one thing to do ;
and that is to delete my account !!

A WARNING ABOUT THIS PLATFORM
In my opinion, the website Complicated.life poses serious risks to clients seeking therapy. The platform appears to offer a space for therapists who may have legal or ethical issues in their home countries to continue practicing elsewhere without proper oversight. By failing to verify professional licenses or legal registrations, the platform allows individuals to advertise psychotherapy and trauma-related treatments — even in countries like Germany, where such practices are strictly regulated.
From my personal experience, Complicated.life does not protect clients — it protects therapists, including those who may be imposters or practicing illegally. There are no mechanisms for clients to leave reviews, file public complaints, or warn others about misconduct. This lack of transparency enables unethical behavior to go unchecked.
I was emotionally harmed by a therapist I found through this platform. The person took financial advantage of me, retraumatized me during EMDR therapy, and used misogynistic and verbally abusive language. When I tried to address these actions, they denied responsibility and attempted to discredit me by claiming I had mental health problems. It was an experience of emotional abuse, not care.
In my view, Complicated.life creates a dangerous environment for vulnerable people seeking support. I urge anyone considering using the site to verify every therapist’s Approbation (license) directly with the Psychotherapeutenkammer if living in Germany, or relevant health authority before booking. Real mental health care requires accountability, not just an online profile.

What you're describing is definitely not the kind of experience we want the clients on our platform to have, especially when they are in a vulnerable position while seeking mental health support. We want to create a platform where both clients and therapists feel safe, comfortable, and protected. If you haven't already, please reach out to us directly at support@complicated.life. We take reports like this seriously and have removed therapists from our platform in the past based on client complaints.
That said, a few things in your review simply aren't accurate, and since other people will read this as well, we want to set the record straight.
First, yes, our platform does offer a safe space for therapists (and clients), but certainly not as a refuge for therapists who are running away from legal or ethical issues in their home countries and want to practice without oversight. All therapists on our platform go through a verification process before they can join our directory, where we check their identity, location, and professional credentials. Since our therapist network includes 2,500+ therapists from 60+ countries, the exact requirements vary by profession and country. Second, on the Approbation point specifically: it's true that not all therapists on our platform hold an Approbation ("medical license"), but not holding one doesn't mean a therapist is unqualified. It's a credential that only exists for certain professions in certain countries (e.g. in Germany for doctors, psychotherapists, and psychiatrists, but not for coaches, social workers, or psychologists). So while an Approbation can be an important indicator of qualifications for certain professions in certain countries, it was never meant to be a universal requirement across our network, since it doesn't apply to most professions or countries we operate in.
Again, we're sorry this happened to you, and we hope you found the support you're looking for with another therapist.

It's Complicated really made it simple for me to find a therapist that met my needs and helped me to get started easily. I like that I have a platform specifically dedicated to that to go to for my sessions that runs so smoothly from payment to my online sessions. I've been a year on it and I hope many more! The community of therapist seems great as well.

Growing professionally and personally as a remote psychologist
As a digital nomad therapist, I had been struggling to build my client base online. I had tried many platforms that promised great structure, but either the compensation never felt quite right or the client flow wasn’t sufficient. And that's when I came across It’s Complicated.
Having worked in tech before, the first thing that caught my attention was the intuitive UX. The website felt modern, easy, and comfortable to navigate. After starting my registration, I was invited to a welcome meeting where everything was explained clearly and kindly. The team was responsive, genuinely helpful but not pushy, which immediately gave me confidence to give the platform a real try.
A very fair feature is that we can set our own availability, structure, and fees — something I hadn’t fully been able to do on other platforms. Soon after my listing went live, I began receiving client enquiries, and the frequency steadily grew.
In the meantime, I also discovered the community feature, where practitioners can connect, form intervision groups, find supervisors, organise events (online and even offline), or simply meet for a casual Friday coffee chat. It’s something truly authentic — people are engaged, open, and supportive — an initiative I hadn’t come across before on similar websites. I didn’t just build my caseload here; I also found a sense of belonging that I hadn’t experienced before as a location-independent psychologist.
Another refreshing factor is how approachable everyone is. Not only fellow members, but also the founders, developers, and support team, all of whom come from mental health backgrounds themselves. They genuinely understand the challenges and joys of our field. The team is consistently available, encouraging, and deeply committed to helping each professional thrive. They take their time to personally chat with you and explain the small details on whatever difficulty you come across, and they always have a friendly word. (So refreshing to experience this attitude in world of AI chatbots...)
To make the most of the opportunities offered, I joined the Matching and EAP programmes, attended the “How to Grow Your Practice” workshop, and refined my profile — and the clients kept coming. Within eight months, I had built a full, flourishing practice entirely through It’s Complicated. The built-in payment, invoicing, and reporting features, along with the handy notes and calendar functions, make it very easy to run one’s business and reduce administrative time through automation. (More time for clients, trainings, or simply personal life.)
Two years later, I now have a full caseload with a waitlist, a safe and steady income, and a supportive network of colleagues. Through case discussions, educational events, and shared experiences, there’s constant opportunity to grow both personally and professionally. I’ve been inspired to organise mental health events, run workshops, facilitate group therapy, and speak at conferences — and I continue to feel motivated and full of new ideas. Along the way, I’ve also made lasting friendships, something I didn’t expect and it's beautiful.
It’s Complicated has helped me grow my practice and provided a safe, connected professional home. Whether one's goal is to expand client base, grow professionally, or simply maintain a stable and meaningful online practice, It’s Complicated offers the support needed. I’m truly grateful that the cool designs on their homepage caught my attention two years ago.

It’s complicated offers a quality platform and a sense of community
It’s Complicated is a user-friendly, therapy-led suite of services built into a platform that has allowed me to return to my beloved profession, after many years facing road blocks trying to return to professional practice in a foreign country. For this alone l would rate it 5 stars. However the best part about Its Complicated is the people: from those who dreamed it, built it, from Communications to IT, to the founders themselves. Great platform for and created by therapists
It's Complicated is the only platform that I know that is really working for therapists. We really feel that it's built by and for therapists, without venture capital. The tools work well, the team is dedicated and reactive, and after more than two years of working with It's Complicated, I would absolutely recommed it to colleagues!

Untrustworthy website
I have spent a lot of time on the website trying to receive the help that I need, but I've noticed that I was getting reported for reasons that didn't make sense to me. It seems like Therapists on the website are allowed to flag your profile regardless of the circumstances. Otherwise I've been reported for a series of misunderstandings. Nevertheless, this was unjust since I feel as though I have done nothing wrong. It seems like the website doesn't take this very seriously and perhaps that means that they don't take people needing help seriously either. I would advise anyone seeking help to look elsewhere.

Erfahrung als Therapeutin
Als Therapeutin hatte ich mit dem basic Plan gestartet. Impressions pro Tag circa 50. Keine Klienten. Stufe höher gegangen, essential Plan. Ersten Klienten bekommen plus ein paar unseriöse Anfragen, wie "kannst du mir arbeitsunfähugkeit bestätigen ". Bin zum basic Plan zurückgegangen. Und dann kamen meine impressionen auf circa 7/10 runter, mit 1-2 seitenviews pro Tag. Die Plattform ist dafür ausgerichtet dich als Therapeut:in zu zwingen das teuerste Abo zu wählen. War hier seit März bis Oktober und hatte nur einen Klienten, mit dem ich circa 6 Sitzungen hatte. Kann die Plattform nicht empfehlen.
