This review is a serious warning to business owners. My experience with Custom Web Guru was not simply poor service—it followed a repeated, deliberate pattern designed to place my business’s website under their control to force ongoing payments.
From the beginning, communication only occurred when money was involved. Each time the company wanted additional funds, they suddenly became responsive. When I needed real support, fixes, or accountability, communication stopped unless another payment demand was attached.
Most alarming was a recurring pattern: approximately once a month, my website would suddenly go down or develop “critical issues.” Each outage or malfunction coincided with a demand for more money. Once payment was made, the issues were quickly “resolved.” This pattern repeated multiple times and was impossible to dismiss as coincidence.
When I finally stopped voluntarily sending additional money, Custom Web Guru escalated the situation. They sent written correspondence stating that after the website was made live, they would not be responsible for any issues or maintenance, that no refunds or chargebacks would be permitted, and—most telling—that the domain and hosting would remain with them.
This is the trap.
While claiming I could move my website to another provider, they retained control of the domain and hosting, making that option meaningless in practice. Shortly after this correspondence, my website’s functionality was restricted, access was cut off, and all communication from the company ceased.
In plain terms:
When I paid, the website worked.
When I did not pay, the website went down.
That is not a misunderstanding. That is leverage. That is a company using control of a client’s digital assets to extract money.
No ethical web development or hosting company operates this way. Retaining control of a client’s domain and hosting while repeatedly disrupting service to force payments puts a business’s reputation, revenue, and continuity at risk.
I strongly urge entrepreneurs, startups, and small business owners to avoid Custom Web Guru entirely. Their practices appear deceptive, coercive, and designed to trap clients in a recurring payment cycle simply to keep their own websites online. There are countless reputable providers that operate transparently and ethically. Choose one of them. Do not choose this company.

Custom web Gurus aka Branded Web studios, I cannot in good conscience recommend them, unfortunately I cannot go into details as it is apparently defamation to go into detail. So I will simply state, do your due diligence and do not take things at face value, make sure you receive copies of any packages you buy, and really look at all the reviews before you make up your mind. There a better and more transparent companies out there with a better track record.

This company services webbrandedsstudios.com leads. I prepaid them for a full website and they blocked me and won't respond anymore. BEWARE AND DO NOT USE THEM. I have all proof. They won't even just finish the website I asked for AND PAID FOR.

Update as if 9-14-23. It looks like Custom Web Guru is now denying that I had these problems. Time to go to Jeff Rosen, the District Attorney of Santa Clara County and the city of San Jose to report fraud. All of this is in writing back and forth with Ethan who promised in writing a return of $644. I have dealt with Sean, Paul and customer service who are all well aware of my paying the company and the problems. This company is not recommended. They have not worked accurately or in a timely manor. They have failed to return a promised $644. The bank is having to force a return causing an enormous amount of work and effort. This has been a wasted 11 weeks. Non existent customer service from my experience. Ethan will sell you and give his personal guarantee that is not worth anything. There was one place where I needed to several guidelines, however he fixed the blunder in the span of a day, followed through with my responsibility in record time, and exceeded everyone's expectations to do right by the undertaking. The finished venture is more appealing and more normal than anything I'd gotten from the other two organizations I attempted.
