I have bought several skirts/dresses from this company, and have always been happy with them. However, earlier this month they "attacked" a competitor, and when people spoke up for the competitor, they were immediately blocked from their FB page. I had placed an order prior to this, and on Feb 4 (date may not be accurate) I received a message in my shop app that a shipping label had been created. Then the drama happened and I was blocked for supporting another company. Last week I sent an email to the company owner, asking about the dress that I bought. This morning I received an email from paypal that my purchase had been refunded. Absolutely NO communication from the company. I will no longer order from them and will no longer recommend them to my friends. Apparently they do not like competition.

I joined Darn Good Yarn thinking I would just give it a try knowing that I could cancel anytime or just order when I want you see groups and commitments have never been my thing. I live in the PNW so it’s often chilly. My wardrobe had three colors, black, gray and burgundy. I’ve always liked other colors but struggled to find clothing that fit my personality. In just six months, I have completely transformed my wardrobe to a beautiful kaleidoscope. I never thought this would happen at age 59. I can wear the knee length mini with confidence, even all year long with leggings in the winter. The gorgeous sari wrap skirts are incredible versatile and can be worn as shirts, dresses or skirts and can be worn on either side. I get so much wear out of one skirt when I travel! I wore a skirt for a black-tie holiday event and even do my gardening in my skirts. I have given skirts as gifts and always have women stop me to ask where it came from? I will say something I did learn as a newcomer was that there are so many other “sari skirt” groups out there that you might get a cheap deal from one of these groups like I did. Well, boy was that a mistake! I got a cheap, thin, polyester skirt the tore in two places the first time I washed it. These other groups also do NOT work to support their artisans with fair-trade ethics and many of them are copycats of DGY so be careful! DGY IS a women owned group with a 17-year history of working with talented artisans in India. With DGY these artisans now have sustainable safe, fair, employment to support themselves and their families. You can see their story for yourself at Darngoodyarn.com If that isn’t enough, they have an incredible Facebook group. I have watched the women on this group create lasting friendships all over the world but more importantly, I see other women being transformed while reflecting a positive self-image. I honestly can’t recommend Darn Good Yarn enough and my gratitude extends beyond having a closet full of their beautiful, silk clothing.

As a long time expert crochet designer and cosplayer, I'm always on the lookout for great deals on yarn, crochet and craft supplies, and sometimes clothes. I'm a member of their Yarn of the Month program, which is so affordable, I love their theme every year, like Wanderlust for 2024, and this year is Goddesses. I absolutely love DGY's yarn and their beautiful silk skirts that are so versatile and convertible- I've worn one to my birthday plans twice already! Also, about 40% of my newest cosplay based on Mirabel from Disney's Encanto is all from Darn Good Yarn materials, they're sustainable and fair trade, they support very good causes from their small business. Please support them, they're amazing!!!

I first discovered DGY years ago when looking for chiffon to use in the dried floral wreaths I make, that's when I found sari silk ribbon as well. Once I started purchasing from them, I realized all the other beautiful products they offered! My skirt journey started a couple years ago when I happened upon the FB page. After being a quiet observer for some time I started to engage a little more and found this really wonderful, supportive community of 'skirt sibs' that has become chosen family of sorts. Sam, who runs the group has done a wonderful job of not only giving fantastic access to the skirts with the fun sales held online, but has always been super responsive when questions arise. She is super sweet and runs this very large group with love and devotion to the company and to us! Nell, from the store has been a truly delightful addition to this small all women team- she is truly passionate about her job and has gone above and beyond for myself personally when there was a small snafu in an order, which not only she promptly addressed- but when I received my order from her, she had written a sweet note and enclosed a gift from her which was completely unnecessary but unbeknownst to her received like a long distance hug very much needed. Nicole, the owner of DGY was recently responding to my email at almost 11pm one night helping me to figure out an answer to my inquiry about an order- I have never had such prompt or personalized attention from any company!
As for the items, I have accumulated and been using skirts, bags, yarn, craft items, jewelry, fabric, etc for several years now and have always been happy with my purchases, and the customer service! In fact, if I lived closer I would want to work for this wonderful company! The mission and commitment to sustainability, use of recycled products, and support of women and therefore families in India has made me a loyal customer for life.

Darn Good Yarn has the most beautiful sari wrap skirts which are 2 layers and can be worn many different ways as skirts, tops, and dresses! Some other favorites I have are their belle sleeve wrap tops, and dusters, which are all one of a kind treasures made from gorgeous recycled sari materials saved from landfills!! The products, the company mission, the customer service are all incredible and I’m so glad to be a part of their community!!

I purchased a significant amount of yarn (spent about $180) in two colors a couple years ago and let it sit in my stash for a while before planning a project to use it. When I went to make sure the dye was set, a first rinse indicated it wasn’t. After around the eighth round of soaking and rinsing, I contacted DGY for help or a refund. Customer service took a FULL WEEK to respond to one email every single time I responded to them. In the weeks that I waited I did 20+ rounds of soaking and rinsing, even trying other methods like vinegar, baking the yarn, and the gentle cycle on the washing machine with a color catcher, but the water was still just as vibrant as the first wash. Eventually, after several weeks of trying to get a refund on this yarn I was told that because it falls out of the return window there was nothing the company could do. I understand policies are policies, but spending $180 on yarn is not something I do unless I think I’m receiving a finished product, which this was most definitely not. To “make up for it,” DGY sent me a $20 gift card code, which is an absolute slap in the face. It doesn’t even begin to cover the hours of labor I put in to trying to make THEIR PRODUCT usable, never mind the fact that I don’t want any more of their unfinished product anyway. Now, I’m stuck with an absurd amount of yarn that can’t be used and nothing to compensate for it. My advice is to buy your yarn literally anywhere else, and test it immediately if you do buy from this low integrity company.

A Disappointing Turn from a Once-Beloved Brand
Up until this week, I was a loyal customer and an active member of this company's community. I have loved their skirts and especially enjoyed the friendly and supportive atmosphere in their Facebook group. While the skirt quality has been a bit inconsistent lately, overall, I still found their products enjoyable and had always recommended them—until now.
This week, everything changed. The CEO posted an aggressive video in the private Facebook group, making false accusations against a competitor. She claimed that the other company was stealing ideas, making cheap copies, and mistreating its workers, all while undercutting prices. The competitor was named outright, and the response from group members quickly turned hostile, with many suggesting legal action.
However, as someone who has shopped with both businesses for years, I can confidently say that these accusations are completely untrue. The competitor in question is a small, woman-run business with one dedicated Indian woman in Canada and a team of 5-6 female artisans in India. Their clothing is custom-made to order, of far superior quality, and actually more expensive than this company’s skirts. Their fabrics are of a much higher standard, and they offer a variety of unique designs. What’s more, their transparency is unmatched—they introduce customers to the artisans who create each piece, even specifying which artisan made each item.
I had always believed that both businesses were ethical and valued their artisans. That illusion was shattered when I saw how this company’s leadership responded to those who questioned the CEO’s claims. Comments challenging the accusations were swiftly deleted, and the members who voiced concerns were removed from the group. Instead of correcting the misinformation, the CEO and staff doubled down, continuing their aggressive and misleading attack.
At the same time, they insisted that their "small" company is "only five people"—a statement that conveniently ignores the many warehouse workers presumably necessary for picking and packing items, not to mention the 300 artisans around the world that they proudly highlight on their website. Somehow, this larger company feels "threatened" by a small, seven-person business that shares some of the same customers.
This entire situation has been vicious, dishonest, and deeply disappointing. I truly believed this company aligned with my values, but their actions have proven otherwise. I have since left their group and will no longer support them with my purchases. I will also ensure that others are aware of their unethical behavior and will instead be recommending the competitor, whose business practices and product quality are genuinely superior.
If you care about integrity and ethical business practices, I strongly urge you to think twice before supporting this company. Buy from them at your own risk.

Can confirm JRabbit's account of the CEO's attack on Rangeelaa. I have been active in both FB groups for years and have, until now, been happy to support both companies. A spy in the PRIVATE Rangeelaa group (hilarious because DGY was implying Rangeelaa had spies in the DGY group) was screenshotting replies to the Rangeelaa owner's very eloquent and classy rebuttal post and sending them to the DGY admin, and it appears anyone who either spoke unkindly about DGY's CEO or even just simply expressed support for Rangeelaa was booted from the DGY group. It appears that Rangeelaa's new ads, some of which featured members also active in the DGY group, reaching DGY customers on FB (which is, by the way, how the algorithms work; it is not, as claimed by DGY, Rangeelaa stealing DGY customers' personal info) instilled fear that DGY customers might know other (superior) recycled sari apparel companies exist.
Having ordered quite recently, I can also confirm the hit or miss QC. Holes, snags, tears, stains, loose threads, etc are not uncommon. Never had the same problem with Rangeelaa, who also uses reclaimed saris, so that's really no excuse.

I ordered a three-month subscription to their yarn of the month club, and Darn Good Yarn renewed the subscription at the end of the three-month subscription without my permission for two additional months before I realized it and cancelled
I later found out that this was an honest mistake. I originally thought it was a dishonest attempt to squeeze more money out of me, but this company reached out to me and refunded the two months I paid for. I will say they responded quickly to make things right, which means they take their reputation seriously. I applaud Darn Good Yarn and I'm happy to order from them in the future.

These sari wraps, are magical skirts because I can wear it in many ways, so versatile, beautiful comfy, I get lots of compliments from other people, this helps me to love it, and it starts to grow on me after so many compliments. I called these unique skirts or one of a kind skirts, saris of the soul, it is so unique like our spirit, you are like no one else, these are vintage skirts, signature skirts, be yourself, be you, only you. The style you can make with a sari wrap skirt will never disappoint you.

I discovered Darn Good Yarn on my journey to choose fewer, higher quality pieces from environmentally & socially conscious brands. DGY works with women-run worker co-ops to provide employment & opportunities for marginalized communities. They utilize reclaimed & recycled materials to produce much of their clothing and yarn. At this point, I've made several purchases of both clothing & craft materials. The recycled sari wrap skirts are my favorite -beautiful, unique pieces in vibrant colors & prints. There's definitely a leap of faith element in ordering a unique piece, since you're never sure what you'll get, but DGY suggests that customers note specific color & pattern requests in their order, and they do a great job fulfilling these requests! I've been even more enamored with DGY after discovering the Crafting Enthusiasts group & the Wrap Skirt fan group on Facebook. Not only are these places for fans to share & appreciate each others' favorite skirts & handmade crafts, they also host special sales of clothing, jewelry, and craft supplies. The monthly subscription sari skirt box or yarn box are also great ways to enjoy a special unique piece each month.

I find the customer service to be reliably fair, conscientious and efficient. The product descriptions are accurat6e and the clothing and yarn are of good quality. I especially like the Sale Bin and the flash sales. DGY employs many artisans from several countries. The new products are innovative and are introduced often. I enjoy this amazing company.

Very responsive customer service, and I've been mostly happy with my purchases. Ordering "black box" re colour can sometimes lead to minor disappointment. I have had better satisfaction ordering in one sales where you can view the item. Love the company's sustainable and community development ethos.

If I can give a zero star I would’ve. This company is terrible. Don’t fall for the hype!
I ordered the 3 plus 2 skirts over a month ago, and was very excited because their products (on the photos) are beautiful and I couldn’t wait to where them! I still haven’t received a dispatch email, or tracking number. It’s not a custom item, no it’s out of their overflow stock.
I have been in contact with customer service to be told that there has been a back log of orders and that they will be in touch soon with my order as they are nearing the end of the back log.
Now, in my mind soon is a couple of days, maybe a week, but three weeks later and I am none the wiser as to what the state of my order is!
I will definitely never make use of this company again!

Th silk yarn that I bought was coarse, rough, stiff and ragged. I tried washing the skeins and the colors ran plus the yarn is not any softer. I cannot make anything out of the yarn and will not buy from this company again.

I put in an order a month ago and still have not received tracking and customer service said it was normal not to receive anything after waiting this long. I didn’t have anything custom made. I ordered 2 skirts from their existing inventory.
I am wondering if this is a legit company. They took my money, but did not send the goods, nor provided shipping info.

Don't fall for the hype of a "theme" skirt sale. They attach what sounds like a fun and exciting sale where the expectation would naturally be skirts curated within that theme. That's not what happens at all, its a ploy to get suckers like me to buy the skirts. The utter disappointment when they arrive and no where is the theme evident but additionally the skirt panels themselves clash making pairing them with anything impossible. I used the words hideous and ugly in my return request which was sent the day after I finally received them. I'm going on nearly a month now since they received the skirts back and not only have I not received a refund but there seems to be a concerted effort to ignore my emails. I don't care at this point how altruistic their mission is. Crappy customer service doesn't deserve to be rewarded.
