TL;DR: If you don't live in the U.S - don't order. Wrong colour, no solution, blaming the customer (while admitting mistakes in mail I don't think I was supposed to receive), and communication breakdown.
You can order same products from India, and they arrive quicker and you get what ask for.
Full review;
I'm not in the US and as such this is based on experiences of their service to overseas customers.
I had wanted to order one of their wrap skirts for years, and was really excited about finally ordering one. I chose size, length and colour range, put in my order and waited.
When it finally arrived I was disappointed to say the least. The colours were the exact opposite of what my request was. I sent a mail and was met with what I thought was a C.E.O. who truly wanted to help. She sent my initial mail to someone else and there started weeks of no actual answers or solutions, receiving mails with requests for reviews both of garment and customer service, trying to reach out again (after waiting a few days between every one because I actually don't except people getting back to me in seconds). After a couple of weeks of these roundabouts I get an offering for a voucher of 10$. I honestly got a bit offended as the same day or day before the company had sent out vouchers at that amount to everyone (I assume) on their mailing list. I replied this and that it wouldn't even cover shipping. Afterwards I received an email where ceo and another person was included written to them - I don't think I should have been included in it - where it was stated that I "wasn't willing" because I said her solutions wasn't working for me and that at that point I would rather just sell the skirt and recoup most of my money, and leave an honest review. There was also some other questions and the last one really put me of as that was what to do when they sent out the wrong colours.
That person had tried to tell me that the colour choices was just a "request" and could not be guaranteed. (I since wonder if that also applies to size and length?) But in the last mail I received it was asked right out as what to do when wrong colours were sent out.
I waited to see if anything more would come, but since then there not been a word.
I ended up leaving it at that, ordering a skirt of the same type from India (it arrived much quicker!, other skirt will be sold, and after leaving this review I'm gonna purge my inbox of and unsubscribe to this company's insane amount of emails.

I found this amazing store and community just before COVID hit.
The beautiful skirts and welcoming community really helped to lift my spirits and gave me something to look forward to each month.
I love that my skirts help reduce landfill and give hope and dignity to the women who make them. They have also created a community of support from women around the world who are always kind.
Every skirt is unique. They are wearable art and make me feel loved whenever I put them on.

I went from a nearly all black wardrobe to so many colors and so much fun thanks to Darn Good Yarn. Customer service is fantastic and the Facebook skirt community is the ONLY Facebook community I’ve ever been a part of that I’ve never seen a squabble. Everyone is so kind and helpful. And, Sam! Sam at DGY is fabulous. She is always willing to help a customer. She’s a shopaholic enabler for sure, but I’ll forgive that. LOL!

Claudia and Nicole were both very helpful in getting my problem resolved!
They were quick to respond and let me know my email had been received.
They were right on top of it, and let me know how it was being handled.
Thank you so much!

I was given a yarn of the month subscription as a (very thoughtful) gift. The company pitches this as a chance to receive a different yarn every month along with a free gift. I'm now in the fifth month and have received the same yarn every month in a (slightly) different colour way each time. The 'gifts' barely make it to Christmas cracker quality. This month was a plastic ring in the shape of a peacock? Phoenix? Nothing to do with crafts and your average 10 year old would find it challenging to raise enthusiasm for it.
But what is worse is when I raised the question of the identical (slight colour variation aside) yarns being sent every month I got such a defensive email from the company. They didn't address the fact that the yarns were the same, ignored the free gift criticism and suggested that if I were to warn friends off this purchase I should refer them instead to their company! Yeah right, because I'm that stupid! Anyway, until they get better at what they claim to be doing, I'd steer clear. Meanwhile my kind friend has cancelled my subscription at my request.
I love the Sari yarn.. I had one that the color was just off and they replaced no probs.. the clutch is perfect, so beautiful and some darn good quality..
I received a gift subscription for DGY. The initial boxes were to include yarn, a pattern and a tool of some sort- I received a crochet hook and another time a button to use with one of the patterns for that particular month. Eventually, the delivery changed to no added tool. Then the delivery changed to no pattern but a QR code was included to access the pattern data base. EVERY time I've tried to use the code to allow me to download a pattern to use for my monthly yarn, I receive a message that the coupon code is not valid. I appreciate what seems to be the societal intent of this company, but they are not delivering what was agreed upon when the year subscription was purchased. I gave two stars because some of the yarn is quite nice but the company has not delivered what they promised.
I ordered the Spice Market in Junior size (several inches larger than my waist size but a wrap has lots of overlap, right?) in the ankle length and paid $8.99 for shipping. I received a tea length wrap skirt with less than a handswith of overlap (I’m 5’ 8” with a 31” waist and medium sized hands). One fabric was brown with a repeating yellow daisy pattern. The other was blue and silvery grey twining geometric pasternak. Pretty, but hardly spice coloured and didn’t complement the other fabric at all. The site says you have 60 days you return the skirt. I completed the returns process, including a required photo. The final screen told me to return it within 14 days. Then I received an email telling me they would let me know whether my rrequest would be approved or rejected.
My kantha scarf is breathtakingly, heartwarming-ly beautiful! It will soon be the basis of a new fiber art creation by me! Thank you again and again, DGY!!!
After a long conversation I thought I'd give the shirts a try, but with the dollar conversion they became very expensive. When they arrived they were far too big and when I wrote to them to ask about exchange was advised as they were so cheap no exchange possible, maybe I could gift them. I ordered size 14 and received size 22. I can't afford to give away $200 worth of clothing so incredibly disappointed. The skirts look nice, just far too big. Will not buy again.
I ordered the 3 ply hemp yarn. It was moldy and smelled moldy. I tried everything to get rid of the mold but it was so embedded. I wrote to the company and got some story about how the monsoons affect the yarn and they have a process for getting rid of the musty smell. The yarn was dark with mold and I was coughing trying to work with it. I ended up throwing it away. It's not ok to sell moldy products no matter what the story of the company. 38 dollars for two things of yarn that are now trash. Honestly from reading other reviews online I am not the first customer to get scammed by an inferior or damaged product from them. They are selling a story not actually selling quality products. There are reputable companies selling fair trade products that are not moldy and certified fair trade, support those businesses instead.
Very disappointing. I ordered the 3+2 ankle length skirts. None of them were the bright colors depicted on the website. The workmanship was very poor. The colors were disappointing. I received really 3 pastels, which I do not wear. The one skirt that I like is completely see through and had runs in the fabric. I will not order ever again.
I've been a subscriber for over a year. I love their yarns and skirts and I've been happy to support their mission. However....
In January a 5 pack of skirts didn't arrive. I had to escalate it to PayPal to get a replacement because they kept fobbing me off
They have banned me from their Facebook groups for discussing that their black Friday "sale" wasn't really a sale, because they had increased prices the day before. More people had realised of this, but they don't like any negative feedback. I know somebody who has also gone through something similar and she had been ghosted by the company.
They can't tell me which rules I have broken to be banned and they can't reinstate me either. My subscription is useless if I can't access the Facebook group, to be honest.
Very disappointing considering they are supposed to "start at love". It looks like they have more than enough customers and can afford to lose a few. I'm cancelling my subscription with all the sadness of my heart, but I don't like being used.
Bought a pack of 3 skirts - quality good but 2 of them are in hideous colours. Then I decided to try their recycled yarn - big mistake! Yarn okay but such a tiny amount all I can make from it is a headband and the knitting needles that came as my 'mystery gift' are rubbish - they're supposed to be purple but within knitting under 100 stitches, the paint has worn off leaving plain wood.
Darn good! I am so over the moon excited for my new skirts! Three full length double layered saris for 600 is an amazing price! I love the no waste concept of this business and the surprise of not knowing exactly how your skirts will look. I can not wait to buy more skirts in the future.
Excellent customer service, quick efficient delivery and quality skirts. I ordered the ‘5 for 3’ offer and I’m very happy with length, size, quality and colour (just asked for a variety).
Because they are reversible they are very versatile. Highly recommended
