DRAKE is NOT the quality product it used to be

DRAKE has been a wonderful tax product over the last 20 years. That all changed for 2026. The support was almost non-existent. All were were told was to go find the answer to our issue on the "Knowledge base" If I wanted to go hunt for the answer, I wouldn't need support. Also, the biggest disappointment is that DRAKE removed some calculations that have worked seamlessly for 20 years and now they made them a manual calculation. This is completely unacceptable. Most likely, we will be moving to a new tax software. DRAKE was an awesome product when they were family owned, but everything has slid downhill the last 2 years. It is NOT a product I would recommend to a friend or even a competitor

Great Software for my 1040 Practice

They are adding additional features that are very helpful such as a workflow which makes them easier to continue to use as you grow and in this work from anywhere environment. With it's pricing as long as it doesn't go up too much it is the perfect fit for my 1040 Seasonal Practice

Drake Software 10+ year user

I've been using Drake Software for tax preparation for 10+ years. The program is very intuitive and knowledgeable. There are many avenues of support readily available within the program as well.
Customer Service is top notch!

This was once a GREAT tax software company to work with but now that trust/love is gone

The customer service has fallen off a cliff since the sale a couple years ago. It went from a LIVE PERSON answering the phone call (before the 3rd ring usually) to the standard automated phone tree that drives everyone batty. I have asked for help for several years now with the auto backup of my files and nobody has replied or helped. For what I pay for this product the customer service is not up to par.

There were too many bugs this year

There were too many bugs this year. Forms with wrong calculations that were not fixed, workarounds that were not labelled correctly, crashes, and support that, while polite, were frequently unable to even understand the problem I was having.

I've used Drake for over 20 years; the quality of the program and support have gone down since the VC company purchased it.

I noticed Drake's response. I did report ALL of my issues to support. One of them back in January. As of 5/12, none of them were fixed.

Drake is Great!!

I've been using Lacerte and Ultra Tax in all my CPA career as a partner of a local firm. It is not until I left the firm and on my own and downsized my clientele I was recommended from some peers with Drake. I love it, not only because it is user friendly but it is in compliance more with the details of the questionnaires and descriptions. My peers and I talked, we actually were falling the default trap using the large companies' tax software and not paying attention to some important stuff as a tax preprayer. We appreciate Drake's tax program with detailed frameworks with explanation and researches so we can do our job better. And the learning curve is low for people changed from the major tax software companies. It was a great first year experience. Thanks, Drake Tax. And the Drake portal is great as well. All my clients had good feedback; it is so easy to use compare with others.

The new owners are greedy and put out…

The new owners are greedy and put out an inferior product. It's not what it use to be. The keep adding options to make more money but the program had so many errors you had to spend more time making sure everything was done right. They couldn't even do a 2210 right.

I HAVE USED DRAKE SINCE 1993. UNTIL THE LAST FEW YEARS THE TECH SUPPORT WAS GREAT BUT SINCE THE COMPANY WAS SOLD THE TECH SUPPORT HAS BEEN VERY POOR. NO ONE CAN ANSWER THE QUESTIONS WHEN I CALL.
YOUR PRICE JUST WENT UP AGAIN AND THE QUALITY WENT DOWN ON THE TECH SUPPORT.
I AM NOT AS PLEASED WITH YOUR PRODUCT AS I USED TO BE.

I feel that the customer service has…

I feel that the customer service has improved over last year. However, the experience level is still questionable. Some of the answers that were provided to me were wrong and I ended up amending to correct them. Some of the answers I foudn while on the call with the CSR.

We have used for over 30 years and this year computer froze up a lot and updates were difficult. I wish they had not sold or would have sold to someone who knows their business.
I will continue using as this is the best program I have seen for the type of returns we prepare and file. I hope they learn from this year and are a little more people friendly in support. No Holding and waiting forever for a call back. We should all be important to you.

Overall

Overall, this is a great product for a reasonable price. I have been very pleased with the user experience. I used to us Ultra Tax and found that for me, Drake has a more familiar interface. I did find that this season for a few weeks, when calculating or printing to Drake Documents, it took a much longer than it had in previous years. I am not sure that was a Drake issue or an issue on our side. Our IT company said that our server was running properly. I was relieved when things started processing as they once had so not sure what the issue was, but it was a bit irritating.

Drake Tax User with very few clients.

I have been using Drake for tax preparation for a LONG time now. First, it has gotten MUCH more expensive the past couple of years. Secondly, it doesn't seem to change much. Errors related to foreign tax credit for example still don't have very good explanations on how to fix them. The software is not all that intuitive as you would think it should be.
