Appalling neglect of Normanston Drive rat infestation and overgrown properties. I am writing this to highlight the utter lack of action from East Suffolk Council and the local housing officer regarding the Normanston Drive area in Lowestoft.Multiple properties have front and back gardens with grass standing 4 to 5 feet tall, dumped rubbish, and abandoned food bins. This severe neglect has created a massive rat infestation in our back gardens. Residents can no longer use their outdoor spaces, and children are playing right next to where these pests are breeding. The council refuses to investigate these messy gardens, send warning letters, or properly involve Environmental Health. When tenants do cut there grass, they only do the middle, leaving overgrown or dead hedges, edges, and black sacks full of garden waste. creating perfect nesting spots for vermin and the council in East suffolk are doing NOTHING to clean up the area.

To make matters worse, food bin collection dates are constantly muddled, leaving food waste sitting out for up to a week or more. Green garden waste bins, no-one seem to know when to put them out. The whole new system is a terrible mess.

Just today (23rd July 2026), the system's failure was on full display when a standard open skip truck went by with staff manually throwing in exposed food waste. East Suffolk Council has the legal power to act under the Housing Act 2004, the Environmental Protection Act 1990, and the Public Health Act 1936. Instead, they choose to do absolutely nothing, but sit on there backsides while continuing to take tenants' money. First Hollingsworth Road few month ago and the infestation of rats, now Normanston Drive — the council system here is a complete shambles. Environmental Health must intervene immediately.

Not only do we have the crazy number of bins and the cost of replacing lid colours on others, but now already the collections are a mess. Food bin not collected and it is really hot weather - they want it kept until next week. Also Garden waste not collected on the correct day and only 2 days later. I hope they get their act together!

New bin collection - wanted to replace one or two of new five bins we have with smaller ones, but as we have what the council consider to be enough space to store bins outside we are not allowed to have smaller ones. Not very helpful. I do not understand why we cannot have smaller bins so have room to sit outside without having five bins in the way

Why oh why are hedgerows being cut back in September! With wild roses and enables ect fruiting up a good food supply for birds is lost for that autumn/winter. No wonder our bird population is in rapid decline. Added to the carcinogenic spraying that goes on around everywhere. They tell you it's safe, it obviously isn't because insects (another food supply for birds) are in rapid decline also! This country can and is capable of supplying this country's needs for food if only the government would step up and do something about it. And save anymore farms going bust and loss of communities that thrive in it. IT MUST BE STOPPED NOW!
