Unfriendly and won’t be going back!
It was my daughters first time out to an unaffiliated event with her pony she’s only a young teenager. The stewards shouted at her for jumping the practice fence the wrong direction which we were unaware there were rules of direction to jump the practice fences. So they had reduced her to tears as everyone was then looking at her she was embarrassed and left the practice ring in floods of tears to end up not competing in the classes she had entered. Very poor behaviour absolutely no encouragement for young people to compete. All it would have taken is for the steward to have asked on entry have you been before and are you aware the direction of which to jump the practice fences. Won’t be going back I’m afraid!

I’m really sorry you feel your daughter had a bad experience at Eland at the weekend. We pride ourselves on being an “Entry Level Rider” venue were people, young and the more mature, can gain experience in their chosen sport in a supportive environment, with my team helping where they can along the way.
Jumping with the red flag on the right is a standardised rule across the majority of equestrian sports and venues, which is why it’s not something that we point out to each individual as they enter the ring. However, my team are always there to help should you want to ask any questions about any element of the competition – whether this is via phone, email or social media before the event, with the event secretary as you book in, or with the collecting ring team while you’re riding.
Having spoken to the Collecting Ring Steward and those who witnessed the incident, he didn’t shout at your daughter, he shouted a warning to your daughter as he could see she was riding into a potentially very dangerous situation. Your daughter’s safety and the safety of everyone else in the collecting ring has to be our absolute priority, hence the warning, but I am really sorry she felt exposed and upset by this.
A member of the team did pop over to have a chat with yourself and your daughter to explain the situation and encourage her to give it another go, but we understand that she felt too overwhelmed to continue with her competition at the time.
I’m sorry for the upset, and I hope we get to see you both in the future.

Thank you for your review Suzanne. We do everything we can to soften the ground including equivating, putting sand on the hardest areas and by having all weather take off and landings to soften ground impacts. As you say unfortunately we can't control mother nature.

Great service at Eland when buying my new Ariat boots. Very patient as we had to try several pairs to get the right fit. I’m very happy and comfortable riding in them. Thank you If I’d bought online elsewhere I would have almost certainly got badly fitting boots
