Scam website, impossible to bid on listings

This website is impossible to use. When I signed up for the first time, my account was automatically restricted from bidding on listings and I was told to contact customer support. The shady employee over the phone told me my account was restricted due to non-payment for a previous auction, despite how I never used the website before in my life and it was a brand new account. She then berated me and refused to tell me what the previous purchase was. This is an obvious scam website used to steal peoples' information.

Ritchie Brothers are grifters!

Bought an expensive computerized metal embosser from them that is often used for dog tags. They did not disclose that the unit had been banged up so hard that screws holding the gripper unit to a plate inside had SHEARED OFF and the same happened to the screws on the side panel of the unit. They claimed I should have seen that, but the pictures did not show it and the description did not say the unit was damaged. I thought their "Ironclad Assurance" policy would refund my money, but no, they refused to honor my claim. Ritchie Brothers are scamming grifters. If you are going to buy something, go pick it up yourself and inspect it before accepting it. Look for the damage they will hide from you before taking ownership of the unit. If you find damage not disclosed in the listing, refuse to accept it and demand your money back.

Gov Planet and their customer service…

Gov Planet and their customer service reps are terrible. Called several times for a week, sometimes multiple times per day, and they were saying my account was delinquent and they never received payment on auction items I won. Their fees to buy items is insane, so I mailed a check as I always have done. They are saying it took 9 days for my check to make it FORTY MILES. I have bought items since back when Gov Planet was Government Liquidations and I have never had a problem doing this.
They require your payment within 7 days. Then want to charge 1500 to make your account active when they receive a payment late. It's so important to them to get their payment within 7 days, but then they make you wait MONTHS to be able to pick up the item. Once you get the ok to pickup, you only have 7 days to pick up the item. Most people can't get off work at the drop of a hat.
If I were you and you want good customer service that is FOR the customer, DON'T GO HERE! You won't get quality service here.

I checked trustpilot after bidding on…

I checked trustpilot after bidding on an excavator and was alarmed by the reviews here. I called the seller whose info was printed on the excavator and confirmed everything was legit and they had worked with this site before. The complaints here are all over the place, but i would give credibility to the ones about govplanet creating unnecessary title delays, luckily heavy machinery does not have titles so i was able to get it picked up with just a bill of sale. I also had govplanet confirm the wire info over the phone twice just to make sure there wasnt any chance of the funds being lost or stolen. Machine looks and operates in the condition it was advertised and i got it for half of what this model was listed for elsewhere.

Purchased a Trailer on July 25 2024

Purchased a Trailer on July 25 2024. Paid them in full with my credit card that same day. Picked up the trailer about 37 miles farther away from location they said it was at in the sale. I left several messages and sent 2 emails regarding title, they never got back to me. After 30 days I disputed the charge on my card. They finally called me and asked to remove the dispute so that they can send out the title. No Thanks already purchased another trailer. Then they closed my account like I did something wrong. I will never purchase anything from their auctions again.
Come pick up your trailer before I start charging your company storage fees!

Do your homework

First of all you need to understand where the item came from and why it’s there. If it is military equipment there are really only two reasons for it to be there.
1) the item hit the end of its service life which likely means it was a serviceable item that a military organization received disposition instructions on. These are the items you want to buy. Chances are it had good maintenance and potentially has low meter readings (miles, hours, rounds) which GP always includes.
2) the item was unserviceable and the cost to repair exceeded DOD thresholds. These are items still in the inventory meaning you will see active duty organizations using. Since the DOD budget is tightening it’s more than likely that the owning unit harvested any good parts off of it to repair like items before getting rid of it. I would recommend staying away from these items.
I have had good luck with this site but I do my homework. The one time I didn’t do my research I ended up winning a money pit. That being said, I will still probably break even on that endeavor.

GovPlanet Purchase was flawless

Not to contradict the tremendous amount of bad reviews, but my experience and purchase with GovPlanet was flawless, so I believe credit should be given where credit is due.

Caveat: I bought through their "Marketplace E", which is a reselling market for similar equipment that you get at regular auction, so maybe processes (or at least personnel) are slightly different, but this is still part of the GovPlanet (or Ritchie Bros) services, and for me this service worked perfectly.

I found a refurbished HMMWV that I liked on their Marketplace E. I placed an offer for the vehicle and waited the 2 business days for what I expected would be an "accept", "decline", or "counter offer". After 4 business days I called the GovPlanet sales department to see what was up. They informed me that the seller had set a no-less-than limit that my offer did not reach, so my offer was deemed unacceptable and was therefore classified as "invalid". It probably would have been nice to know that "invalid" was another option, but they do provide you a number to call in the event that you have questions about your offer. So I guess if you are a serious bidder, you will call the number, which is exactly what I did. They were responsive to my questions, explained the reason that my bid was stuck, and offered to call the seller and mediate a fair price. They promptly called me back and advised me of the sellers "left and right limits" (to use a military term), to which I provided what I thought was a very fair bid for the HMMWV, which was promptly accepted by the seller.

I received the title for the HMMWV before it even arrived, and the HMMWV I received was exactly as advertised by the seller.

If I had to say something negative (or really "informative") for the buyer, it's that don't be off-put by the extreme inconsistency in business names. I read this on a review, so I knew what to expect, but it was still a little unnerving (especially when you're about to drop $30k+ on an HMMWV) to see. In my case, I found a vehicle on GovPlanet, yet the pictures were watermarked as IronPlanet. When I called sales, they answered as IronPlanet, yet when they called back, the Caller ID said Ritchie Bros. And finally, when I received my purchasing invoice, it went through TruckPlanet! Crazy and confusing, but if you expect it before you start, then you just roll with it through the process.

I'd also like to add that the purchasing process was very intuitive (and automated): As soon as the offer was accepted by the seller, my account was updated with the next step (wire them the money). Once the wire transfer was received, my account was updated with the shipping options. The whole process was well automated and easy to follow step-by-step.

Bought an outboard motor

Bought an outboard motor, in the description it said it had been used in a tech school and had not run in a couple months. It turns out it had sat in an empty out of biz school for five years. Motor is fuel injected and sat too long. They tell me to read the description where it says "Iron Planet makes no....." First i didn't buy it from iron planet and this was the only time that name was used, also they don't point out how your suposed to know what part of the description to believe. They offered 10% of my money back, i reported them to the Florida AG, the Calf AG, the FTC and I'm not done !

The worst company ever dealt with!!!

The worst company ever dealt with!!!! BE VERY CAREFUL BEFORE DOING BUSINESS WITH THEM!!!
I won an field gear auction (total 31 back packs (assault/field/ruck) out of the 31, 8 packs had missing parts and 1 was severely damaged. That is 30% of my purchase negatively affected. When I dispute the purchase, all I got was a denial and a bunch of excuses on how they can't guaranty used items. Mind you, this auction item included IronClad Assurance (I didn't expect the items to be new, but at a minimum it should be mentioned on the listing that it has missing parts and significant damage(s), so I could make best decision as to bid on it or not. Again, just wanted to let people know what kind of experience I had.

BUYER BEWARE - GovPlanet.com is a SCAM

I recently participated in Richie Brothers, GovPlanet.com, which is also an IronPlanet.com Auction. They claim to be a Government Auction site, which they are not affiliated with the government. They actually sell repossessed vehicles from various banks in various states. I participated in and won 3 electric vehicles. According to Richie Brothers all sales are final and vehicles won can be picked up the same day as the auction after final payment. When I joined GovPlanet I had to create an account in which I disclosed my physical address as San Juan, Puerto Rico. After the sale I was told that the 3 vehicles are ready for pick up, only they legally were not. I hired Puerto Rico Car Transport to pick up the vehicles, because GovPlanet employee's advised me the the vehicles were ready for P/U. Unfortunately GovPlanet does not tell participants prior to the actual auction that NO winning sales come with legal titles. The transportation co. sent me an email stating that The vehicles cannot be legally picked up without proof of ownership, a legal title in the name of winning bidder. The transport co. stated that it would be illegal to p/u the vehicles. When I informed GovPlanet about the P/U situation, they advised me that I could purchase a title via their SF97paperwork, but not until after the vehicles were removed from their storage units, which can not legally happen W/O the titles. Once vehicles are removed it take 4 to 6 weeks before a title could be P/U. Richie brothers advised me that if the vehicles were not removed from their respective storage facilities within 8 days I would be charged storage fees because I could not remove the vehicles without legal titles and GovPlanet will not apply for a title for the winning bidder until the vehicles are removed from their facilities? Legally, A winning participant in a Gov-Planet auction can not get a legal title until the items won are removed from the storage facilities. Items won can not legally leave the storage units without a legal title? So, even though these facts are not made available until after a bidder wins the auctioned items, an auction winner is technically an auction loser. Due to Richie Brothers illegal practice of not disclosing pertinent facts, like NO titles prior to all auctions and therefore items won can not legally be removed from storage. I believe that Richie Brothers, Gov-Planet and Iron-Planet are illegally and knowingly facilitating illegal intra state auctions so that they scam winners out of the items won so I am out $10,000 + because they legally can not ship my items won at their auctions due to Richie Brothers fraudulently corrupt, deceptive and misleading policies. If you had similar problems with these auctions sites leave your review on TrustPilot.
