Absolutely crap and no customer service or support available, all the links on the email they sent me don't exist and there's no way to challenge an item they remove because they think it violated their policy. Definitely won't be using this shit site again.

I’ve just read Alaistairs review and would be interested if he or someone could give me some feedback for a question. I’ve never used any platform for buying or selling but am looking for a folding bike. I’ve found two on gumtree and have messaged the sellers and made offers but have had no replies! Gumtree offered no solutions and my guess is I’m doing something wrong but haven’t the foggiest what it is! I have an account and Gumtree have my email and i can only assume from Alaistairs comment that the sellers have replied but I’m not seeing their responses! Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Can you refund me my 14.99 as your site was totally useless selling my car apart from scammers! People asking me about credit plans, finance? I,m selling a car and get people messaging me about finance! Plus I thought it was free to sell, I thought I was entering my bank details for payment if I sold car, not to pay 14.99 for me to advertise on a so called free site?

A VERY dangerous place to purchase a car, I have to date purchased 2 cars advertised on Gumtree, 1 on a private sale, lost my money and never received the car, (how this seller gets away with being a private seller one will never know, he has more vehicles advertised than a major car dealership).
The other being a trade sale which I am still trying to agree with the seller who took my deposit and has generally mucked me about ever since, there is still no sign of the car or my deposit being returned and I VERY much doubt Gumtree will be at all interested.

They block my genuine car advertisement without any reason, with no support or response, despite several attempts to reinstate it. It has been a week so far. I have paid for a few additional options, so they must refund me; otherwise, I will take them to court. The platform is widely used by scammers, and I did not see any action to remove them. my best advice is to stay away from this unprofessional site.

Not bad if you’re a buyer, but trying to sell stuff is a nightmare.
Constant “is your item still for sale” messages from people who never reply when you tell them, or worse still, people who negotiate to buy your item then never show up or reply after agreeing a price and getting your address.

Waste of time. Have never successfully sold anything. Pathetic. Useless website.

I'm a private seller, selling a car I've owned for 10 years
at a low price. Other than one problem I declared that would cost £100-150 to fix it was a good car in/ out running well. All I got was aggressive dealers offering virtually nothing. A dealer who started off well sent me several nasty messages when I couldn't find the receipt for work done a few years before, I had to block him to stop him. Unless you like rude people who want something for nothing don't advertise here.

Have been a member of Gumtree for 10 + years, have had several thousand responses to my ad for recreational football.. have created a very large playing community, and been successful.. but have only ever sold 3 or 4 items on the platform.
One item I sold was plagued by a timewaster who constantly questioned me repeatedly with the same questions, who repeated the same requests, All of which I responded to... Yet, after the sale of my item, he wrote a completly fabricated story, saying I never showed.
The result is that out of 3 reviews, his negative lie, gives me a 66% rating.
Gumtree will not examine or review my complaint.
So wrong, and so unfair.
People question why I have such a poor rating.

So I decided to give gumtree a go with selling my nearly new smart watch, took all the photos and wrote the description and at the end it says pay£3.95 and we can put it at the top of the searches, so I pay my money and then im looking for my ad which has not been posted but has been "temoved" with no explanation as to why or no way of making alterations because on the help section it says that this could be due to some part of the addressee being against there policies or some such. Try to contact them online but you have to have an ad ref number but I dont have one because MY ad isn't active so they have took my money and I have absolutely nothing to show for it! What an absolute con. So I have received my money back today 19/01/2026

I'm deleting the app and my account with this shower of useless idiots. I have lost four recent potential sales because either the messaging doesn't work properly, I'm not notified when someone messages me (all settings are correct before anyone pipes up with empty advice) or the app or site just doesn't operate remotely adequately.
The number of dead end enquiries is incredible. My replies must be echoing in the cosmos somewhere because the potential buyer certainly can't hear me. They can't all be time wasters so I'm levelling the blame at Gumtree and their pointless site and app.
Currently the homepage is showing multiples of the same listing. I only hope the bloke selling the one double bed can lay his hands on twelve more because that's what's displaying right now.
It's pointless setting a mile range on your search. They go by the method of the inebriated and numerically challenged crow. It's so moronic I can't get my head around it. From north east Scotland I was getting results for Belfast and Dublin with a hundred mile distance.
Even deleting the account wasn't straightforward. Clicking 'delete account' kept taking me to a search product page. The actual OPPOSITE of what I was trying to do. Several attempts later, I think it took. Apparently I'm waiting for someone to get in touch to complete deletion. Cue incoherent dribbling and a tidal wave of drool.....
This crowd shouldn't be put in charge of paperclips. There'd be a major fire in no time. That's how useless Gumtree is. Well done everyone and thanks for nothing.

Such a great free platform, I get so much stuff from there or give away so muc I no longer need. I think it's so great for the environment to have a platform like this that keeps used items moving, thank you for running it!

Don't bother trying to sell a dog on here,
Because everythime your get a piss head messaging if dog is Available at about 23:30 you reply yes,
Next day they don't reply

local selling and purchase o.k. many scam attempts on £100+ value items. Relatively ineffective compared to Ebay which is worth paying for appart from the imposed simple delivery system that certainly is not

bought a car from a guy named gary from fettes edinburgh,numerous issues with the car,contacted gumtreeto get the sellers info 3 times with no reply,useless

Used Gumtree for years and it was fine but since it has been ‘ updated’ it seems glitchy and awkward to use it was fine before !

This isn’t Gumtree’s fault but I must add that looking at cars on there now is a gamble - so many scammers and practically every car on the site that’s reasonably priced (private sales) have been previously written off - be careful!

5 Star service - very secure app

I look through local ads on gumtree every day some times twice or three times, now it's changed to UK wide with delivery it's absolutely terrible filters do not work properly to search local either,I probably won't close my account yet but this is the end for me I will remove my ads and put them on fb marketplace for more local buying and selling, I think gumtree has made a big mistake. Edit the local search filter seems to be working better so changed my rating.

Just opted out of your delivery service for my listings because you only have Evri as default provider and given the amount of problems they’re causing on a national basis, I really can’t believe you’re not using Royal Mail! Please be sensible! I’m so glad I caught this vital information quick before your 72 hours implementation!
