Had my car advertised on Autotrader for…
Had my car advertised on Autotrader for a while but it didn't sell. Received a few emails and calls from Hampsons trying to persuade me to put my car through their Auction. I thought about it and finally agreed. I opted for a reserve price, payed the fees (£300 inc vat) and delivered the car. Not long after, I had a call to say the guy who I dealt with had not long started working at Hampsons and my car reserve was set too high so I agreed to set it lower. I was told I could contact at any point if I had questions - I tried the two people I had previously spoken to with no answer from my messages or calls. The Day before the auction a third guy called to say I should take the reserve off so it would help sell - no reserve means no commission on sale. I agree - the car sells - no phone call to say the car had been sold so I call the office to find out it had sold and the price it sold for and I would receive payment within a week - I received payment but received £300 less than the sale price. So in total - Hampsons received £600 to sell my car. Highly disappointing and would never recommend them to anyone. I put 1 star for the lady in the office. *Unfortunately I don't have any phone call recordings* but who would record conversations knowing they'd be screwed over?!

I bought a car for £ 820 hammer price
I bought a car for £ 820 hammer price, when the invoice came they had slapped on another £ 750+ buyers premium !!!!! There was no indication of this ridculous premium at the point of sale IE The page the car was advertised on. Completly unrealistic in my view. Please see threating e mail below, everything I posted was true.

Louie Bostock Louie hampsonauctions.
Andrew Pike
Andrew,
It has been brought to our attention that you have posted a number of malicious and defamatory reviews concerning our family run business on both Trustpilot and Google.
These actions represent a significant change in circumstances. As of yesterday, a settlement had been reached in good faith, with both parties in agreement. Your decision to publish these reviews constitutes a breach of that understanding and demonstrates bad faith on your part.
As a result, our position has now changed. We will no longer proceed under the terms of the previously agreed settlement and will instead commence legal action to recover the full outstanding balance, including but not limited to storage costs, legal fees, and the remaining invoice amount.
Throughout this matter, we have acted reasonably and in good faith. However, given your recent actions, we are no longer prepared to uphold our side of the settlement.
Unless the reviews in question are removed in full by 3:00 PM today, we will instruct our solicitors to proceed without further notice. For clarity, we have been advised that our case is sufficiently strong that our solicitors are prepared to act on a no win, no fee basis. (end of e mail) NOTE.
Further to the above I paid the £ 700 odd plus VAT in good faith for which I received nothing, the buyer still had the car and Hampton got paid for there lack of transparancy. There was at no point a mention of agreements or contracts. It was noted at their next auction the ridiculous buyers premium was listed on the actual description page. ( which I feel jusitfied my original comments) I have no idea why after 3 months they have decided to add to this review. Another case of covering their emoral actions, how can they say they have no record of my dealings. I have a whole e mail thread of unprofessional responses from this Louie Bostock.

A further follow up to my previous post regarding Hampsons Auctions
Given that most of the coolant hoses were damaged and the core plug was heavily corroded, the only reasonable conclusion is that the vehicle was not roadworthy and was either towed or otherwise transported to the auction premises. It clearly was not driven there.
In these circumstances, it is wholly unacceptable and negligent of Hampsons not only to have misdescribed the vehicle as diesel engined when it is in fact petrol engined but also to have failed to state explicitly that the vehicle was a non-runner at the point of sale.

Always sell with a reserve.
After a very bad experience with this company I would recommend that if you sell through auction, no matter what they say, push or do, always sell with a reserve for what you know your pride and joy is worth.
After selling my Audi RS7 with them, I am now out of pocket by approx £12000. This has seriously affected my mental health and financial status.
If they try to get you to lower or take your reserve out before or during the auction. DONT. They told me that no reserve sales always sell for more. That confirms their commission, that’s all.
My 28-30k car sold at 17750, took ten working days to clear into my account even though they released the car the following morning by 9am.
Many people have been caught by this, they keep on reporting my reviews for defamatory comments, I will keep going to get my story across so others don’t suffer the same fate as me.
SCAM!
Promised placing my car in their auction. once i paid the "placement fee" they cut communication, my car was never advertised at this so call auction. They didnt answer to my calls emails or texts about whats going on. absolute scam! Avoid at all costs. I've since found out in the car industry this so called auction is knows for shady moves.
-
As per their reply.
I drove the car across Europe for this auction. I have proof of my trip, I have proof of the convo / lack of convo with these people, I have proof they didn’t do any publication of my car even existing in the auction the weeks prior and the days of supposed auction. All have been submitted to the higher ups.
The facts are the facts and they do a lot of talk to get you to pay the entry fee and that’s all they want.

Réponse de Hampson Auctions
As a first-time seller, I would have appreciated clearer communication at key decision points
I consigned my car with a reserve and was later contacted shortly before the auction and advised to remove it to improve the chances of a sale. At the time, I did not fully understand how this would affect the overall costs, as this was not explained during the call or in the follow-up messages.
After the sale, communication felt slow, and when I asked for clarification, responses referred back to standard terms rather than addressing the specific questions I raised.
Staff were polite throughout, but the process felt rushed and left me unsure at times. Clearer explanations during calls and more detailed post-sale communication would improve the experience, especially for first-time sellers.

Please don’t use this Hampson Auction…
Please don’t use this Hampson Auction they are crooks who wants your £300 for listing after that they don’t care, I dropped my Bentley Bentayga 2 weeks before Auction 23/11/2025. 2 days before Auction date I had a buyer who wanted to buy the car i called Luis he said please ask them to register and bid on auction day, I asked the buyer to register then he came back saying Bentley isn’t listed on their lot since then I have been calling Luis he never answered me I also called his office they said his busy he will return your call also left messages for his boss Zack no one bothered returning my call, you can imagine what I am going through £140K car, I waited suddenly Luis messaged me saying I will call you back in 10 min then 20 min never heard until 24th Nov 25. Day after auction I decided to call 1 last time before I make my way to Helsby which is 300 miles from me. Finally Luis answered saying sorry we couldn’t sell your car you can pick up your car. Zach didn’t bother to call and explain why they didn’t list it on their lot since auction. Utterly disgusted with their service.
I consigned my Rolls-Royce to Hampson…
I consigned my Rolls-Royce to Hampson Auctions (signed entry 4 Sept 2025) on a no-reserve basis. At auction (28 Sept 2025) the car reached a £70,000 hammer but the winning bidder defaulted. Hampsons then attempted to sell to underbidders (including a proposed completion at £60,000) without my consent. When I instructed Hampsons that I did not agree to a £60k sale and demanded return of my car, they refused, invoiced me a “withdrawal fee” (12.5% + VAT) and said the car would not be released until that fee was paid. They also contacted police and suggested reporting the matter as a false allegation.
I had no realistic option but to instruct solicitors and commence court proceedings to recover my own property which I ultimately did. The whole episode caused substantial stress, legal costs, time lost, and reputational embarrassment. I have kept copies of the signed entry form and their correspondence Hampsons’ own contract says title passes only on cleared funds, yet they retained and attempted to dispose of my car contrary to my instructions. In my opinion, the company’s conduct was completely unacceptable and caused me significant stress, legal costs, and loss of time. Their behaviour has destroyed any trust I had in their operation. I would strongly urge anyone thinking of selling through Hampson Auctions to stay well clear and seek an alternative auctioneer.
Further more I encourage people to read other reviews of this company as it seems I’m not alone in the problems faced,
Today I was handed my car back after high level litigation the car has missing parts and engine has been sabotaged, very disappointed with this auction house behaviour, other customers have been similarly affected.
Hampsons thank you for replying but surely if I’m a liar then look at your other reviews

please don’t waste your time with these people. never give them your details or they will just spam you texts, calls and emails!
Give them your car details and they will try to sell it for you using other means than auction very dodgy dealings with this company!
just keep away from this company!
The reason I left this feedback (others have a similar experience with your company) is because I made a genuine enquiry about selling my husbands car with you and although I didn’t proceed, thankfully now all I get is spam!! Texts and unruly hours and emails that is why the negative feedback was left. If you don’t like the feedback left I suggest you don’t continue to spam your potential customers or sell their details on to third parties!

NEVER AGAIN…
Stol ikke på folkene i Hampsons. Den superbil, jeg købte, var slet ikke som beskrivelsen, og den har kostet tusindvis af kroner at udbedre. Hampsons vil ikke anerkende nogen af de større mekaniske fejl.

Be VERY cautious buying from Hampsons
My experience of buying a (£42,000) supercar from Hampsons Auctioneers was horrific.. Please be very, VERY careful and don’t fall for their dirty tricks..
The description stated the car was recently serviced and ran well. Hampsons claimed the keys & service history were still “in transit” due to probate issues..but assured me the car ran perfectly and fully serviced..
After winning & receiving the car it is very clear the bottom end has mere hours left and my local (independent) supercar centre want a ridiculous amount of money to pull the mid mounted engine & rebuild it.. Hampsons want nothing further to do with me & wontreturn my calls..
BUYER BEWARE has never been more appropriate than with Hampsons.. Ignore their fictional descriptions, get an independent inspection or better still, buy from a reputable source..

Do not rely on their descriptions
Whilst waiting to bid on another car at the Hampson Auctions on-line, a Beach Buggy came up that looked good value. I read the description which was glowing about the car including 200 hours of restoration, body and paint work excellent, engine been re-built, not many miles and pulls like a train. When it arrived it was the complete opposite of their description. It was fact it was complete write off. When I informed Hampson they took no responsibility for their description but just pointed to their T&C's. I even offered to donate the profit they made to an animal charity as at that stage it was not about the money more about the principal that they are a professional auction house who in my opinion wholly misrepresented the condition of the car in their auction.
