Velocity Trader (Jim Fink) - You can do better.
Here are the facts as I have experienced them being a member of Velocity Trader (Jim Fink). I'm a 40-year trading veteran, so I do know a little something about trading.
Each week we're provided on average a couple of spread trades to take. They can be debit or credit spreads. If by expiration the spread is in loss or odds are they will expire as a loss (or potential exercise threat), we are instructed to roll it over.
Okay, that's normal stuff. But here's the rub. The vast majority of the trades we get require being rolled over. And some over and over again, going for months and months into the future. This continues until at some point it is closed as a profit. This is where the "have not had a loss for x years" comes in.
But let's get real here. If your spread is in loss and you roll it over, it may not be considered a loss to the IRS (the 'wash rule'), but it really is a loss that you are looking to recover with the new spread (the roll). The wash rule is only meant to prevent you from writing off the loss for reasons you can look up. But it is still a loss. This service will tell you that because the IRS doesn't consider it a loss, it is not. Joke.
As a member, you expect to get more winning trades (not requiring rolling over) than losing ones. Forget it. The majority require abandoning one spread for a new one (roll over) in hopes to 'recover' and end up in profit. And if the rollover spread returns enough premium to cover it, it's considered still a positive trade. In reality, it's a new credit to offset a losing credit (no longer a credit of course).
When the majority of your initial spread trades require you to roll it over, this should tell you that their timing method is not that good at timing. My own tech analysis trumps theirs, and I've fortunately avoided a whole bunch of these rolled over spreads due to my tech work telling me "not a good idea to take this trade".
If you're not a very experienced trader, stay clear. If you are experienced (as I am), also stay clear.
I was hoping that their stated record of no losing trades in x number of years was real and would afford me a few extra spread trades each week (to compliment my long option trades) but turns out to be a waste of money.
PS: I've been a member for a few months so this is not a small sample size.
