Disappointing experience for a first-time buyer

Unfortunately, my experience with this conveyancing firm was extremely disappointing, particularly as a first-time buyer who needed clear communication and guidance throughout the process.

My emails were often ignored, and I received very little guidance or support. I was never able to speak directly with the solicitor handling my case, even when I wanted to raise concerns and make a formal complaint. This left me feeling frustrated and unsupported during what was already a stressful process.

Unfortunately, we ultimately had to pull out of the house purchase following a poor survey. When I contacted the solicitor’s secretary to discuss this, I was disappointed by the lack of empathy shown. At one point, they even chuckled while I was speaking to them on the phone, which I found particularly inappropriate given the circumstances and the stress we were experiencing.

I subsequently made a formal complaint, but unfortunately not all of the points I had raised were addressed. I was also concerned to discover that the person dealing with my complaint had the same surname as the solicitor who had been handling my case. This raised concerns for me about whether the complaint was being dealt with independently and impartially.

By this stage, the whole experience had caused me considerable stress, and I decided not to pursue my complaint any further.

As a first-time buyer, this was a very disappointing introduction to the conveyancing process. I expected communication, guidance and basic customer service, but unfortunately felt that I received very little of these.

Since then, I have instructed another local solicitor for my legal work, and the difference has been remarkable. They have provided fantastic service, respond directly to my queries and have made me feel supported throughout the process.

Based on my experience, I would strongly recommend first-time buyers consider their options carefully and choose a conveyancer who will communicate clearly and provide the support and guidance they need.

I contacted MCF solicitors at Rotherham branch as I am located here, but I was relocated to Doncaster Branch for some reason and that was crucial. It was about 15 years ago when I bought business and have to transfer lease into my name. It took them nearly a year to do so and I have received letter saying that because it takes so long we have to charge you 300GBP, so I took letter from Doncaster Branch and visited Mr. Malcolm personally about this letter as I respond and reply to all communication same or next day. Mr Malcolm took letter and said its all sorted don't worry about it. Should have left them after this experience but didn't learn my lesson.
After lease comes to renewal in 2024 I contacted Rotherham Branch but was relocated again to Doncaster one. After over a year my patience gone, I decided to find another solicitor to renew the lease because of their hard work. I ended up with 501 GBP bill in 2026 and wasted over a year with them, hopefully you find this useful and make your decision if you want to contact MCF solicitors. Luckily No More MCF for me!
