Excellent teacher and materials
Matt Maxwell was a fantastic LSAT instructor. I came into class feeling discouraged about the test as I had been unable to improve for quite some time. Matt's class helped raise my score far past what I came in with. The materials are extensive and easy to understand, and Matt was very responsive to email outside of class.
Reed Arnold is an excellent GMAT tutor.
Reed Arnold is an excellent GMAT tutor.
I took his fundamentals of math class in person in late January and several private lessons from him as my exam approached. He is well-spoken, intelligent, rigorous--and a nice person to boot. My 750 would not have been possible without him.
Excellent Teaching
Alex was an excellent and collaborative instructor, he never over-judged an action or idea. Alex was patient throughout his instruction, and managed to simplify some difficult concepts to me. I would definitely recommend him for anyone who is looking to kickstart their preparation for the GMAT.
740 GMAT Score thanks to Manhattan Prep
I owe my success on the GMAT to the Manhattan Prep course. I went from a very unstructured and independent study plan to one that provided accountability, insight, and tactics -- all of which I would not have been able to obtain on my own. My score increased 80 points in 6 weeks, taking me to a 740 overall. I attribute this to this course and my instructor, Keith! Exceptional value!
Manhattan Prep Pushed my LSAT Score into the 99th Percentile
Manhattan private tutoring with Scott Miller raised my LSAT score from 168 to 180. This was my third time taking the LSAT, and I had tried other classes and study materials before (namely Kaplan). I think the key to raising your LSAT score is understanding your weaknesses, dissecting their root causes, and developing specific strategies to address those causes. Manhattan and Scott were excellent in this regard. The LSAT navigator identifies trends in the types of questions that you get wrong. Scott was masterful at responding to that information and working with me to understand how I typically approached questions where I was weak. We then zeroed in on the thought patterns or weaknesses in fundamentals that were leading me to incorrect answer choices. Scott then referred me to the appropriate areas of the Manhattan strategy guides and drill books that could address my weaknesses and help me practice the solutions. The Manhattan study materials are much more in-depth than Kaplan, which seems very cookie-cutter in a hindsight comparison. Beyond his didactic expertise, Scott helped build my confidence by harping on my strengths and breaking down my weaknesses into manageable areas for improvement. Confidence is absolutely crucial when it comes to tackling the LSAT, so the relationship with your teacher/coach cannot be underestimated.
I would highly recommend Manhattan Prep and Scott Miller specifically!
GRE Course
I did my GRE prep at Manhattan Prep with Alex Southmayd as my instructor. He was fantastic - engaging, supportive and extremely knowledgeable about GRE - not to mention he has a 340 perfect GRE score. His teaching indicates why Manhattan Prep is one of the market leaders in standard exam prep courses. I highly recommend Manhattan Prep!
Alex was a great instructor
Alex was a great instructor, knowledgable and engaging. I would highly recommend his course.
Great experience
From start to end, my experience with Manhattan Prep was really positive - organized, efficient, and effective. I was matched with a tutor within 24 hours. My tutor - Alex Southmayd - was great. He explained concepts clearly and worked through problems with me to help solidify my understanding. Alex was always kind, upbeat, patient, and supportive. My GRE score (and confidence around test taking) improved substantially after meeting only a handful of times - a testament to Alex's teaching and encouragement!
Manhattan Prep A++
Manhattan prep was fantastic. Kept me honest with studying and helped me stay on track. Without it, not sure I would have put in the necessary time. Alex Southmayd was incredible, always kept the energy up despite the later session time. Moved at the perfect pace and made sure everyone was comfortable each and every session. 10/10 would recommend!
Private Tutoring with Alex Southmayd
I had a total of 5 private lessons with Alex. Within those 5 lessons, Alex helped bring my verbal score to a 166 from a 158. Amazing progress. Alex is extremely patient and has a terrific understanding of the test both from a strategic and content standpoint. Furthermore, he will put you on a structured path for success making studying much less stressful. I highly recommend Alex to anyone who wants to boost their scores no matter what stage they are in the studying process. Could not have succeeded in reaching my goals without him!
An Excellent Experience All Around
Manhattan prep was an incredibly positive experience for me. There were a lot of positives from start to finish, listed briefly below.
1) The first and most important was the instructor. I worked with Alex Southmayd, who was a phenomenal teacher. Each week I looked forward to our Sunday class, where Alex had a real knack for breaking down difficult concepts. Alex was a great communicator for both the quant and verbal sections. He was able to show me a lot of tricks that made the test far easier to understand.
2) The online portal was a fantastic resource - easy to navigate, with all the tools necessary to study effectively. The curriculum was well thought out, and having the homework each week helped keep my studying consistent.
3) Finally, I had initially signed up for an in person class, but due to Covid-19, that was switched to online. Manhattan Prep refunded me the balance between the in person and online courses with no questions ask, which was very much appreciated.
Overall I would certainly recommend Manhattan prep to anyone looking to study for a standardized test of any kind. Again, I think the real stand out was Alex, the teacher of my GMAT course.
Take the course, strongly recommend Alex Southmayd
I strongly recommend the Manhattan Prep GRE course and especially recommend Alex Southmayd as an instructor and for any tutoring hours you may need afterward. I was having trouble with some specific math strategies and problem types: Alex kept me accountable to what I should accomplish within a particular timeline, gave me specific strategies to practice on certain types of problems, and was incredibly helpful by letting us know about resources (early on) to manage test anxiety. The course was exceptional, equal parts challenging and engaging, and Alex has been supportive even after I wrapped up the course. I came in trying to only get a better math score (I achieved my math score goal), but Alex managed to intersperse some verbal training that helped me significantly increase my verbal score in the process. I cannot recommend Alex highly enough.
9 Week Course: Exactly what I needed
I completed the nine week in person Complete Course, along with three in person coaching sessions, and had a great experience. The course and my self-study afterward took me from a 620 (my first practice test) to a 710 final score on test day. The GMAT is a beast, so it was very helpful to have all the guidance Manhattan Prep provided along the way. The course was great. Reed Arnold was my instructor, and he is the college/high school teacher I wish I had. Reed was engaging, entertaining, and pushed us to not just get the right answer, but to truly understand how the GMAT wants students to think. Every three hour class flew by, and was a great mix of wrestling through tough problems with Reed’s guidance on how to think about them and to-the-point lectures on test structure and concepts. In addition to the actual content itself, Reed gave us what is much harder to find: a strong meta-foundation for success that included strategies on timing, approaching questions, pacing on the test, and how to schedule studying.
Outside of the classroom, the online resources and books were very comprehensive. The books were very comprehensive but mostly short enough to be approachable, though some of the verbal sections were a bit dense. As someone who was working long hours during this course and only had a small amount of time to dedicate during most weeknights, it was very helpful to have the online ATLAS portal be superbly organized and to clearly lay out how much time each homework assignment might take. The homework was helpful and often difficult, but the quantity was just right so that I was able to keep up with most weeks, but had additional problems if I had time to go a step deeper. My favorite part of the online portal was the ability to “star” difficult questions, bookmarking them for future review and putting them conveniently in the “starred questions” section for easy future access. The portal also came with a lot of videos that gave deep dives into certain concepts. I watched a few of these but mostly didn’t have time, though I appreciate them being there. In addition to these, the course comes with six practice exams, in addition to the two that GMAT offers. I believe you can actually re-take the six as well, but I never got that far - six was plenty.
Finally, and arguably the most important thing about this course, was how engaged Reed was with me as a student throughout the process. In each of the three coaching sessions we had outside of the normal class, we reviewed my practice exams, and I always came away with a few important takeaways drilled into me. Reed is tough but fair and empathetic. I’ll never forget him scolding me for missing a “comma which” Verbal question. I never missed another one after that. Outside of the coaching sessions, Reed was very responsive over email and proactively reached out often. I have felt supported throughout this process, especially during my self-study period after the class ended. Reed has given me perspective on numerous aspects of test prep, and shared several additional problem set worksheets for specific topics I struggled with. He has provided a clear example of what a great instructor should be.
Mark was an excellent instructor
Mark was an excellent instructor! Qualified, fun and very eager to help his students. The interact videos are amazing! Highly recommended.
Manhattan Prep - Dave Mahler Review
I took the 9-week course with Dave Mahler in New York and had a great experience. I had already taken the GMAT once before, but did not get my desired score and decided that the best way to improve would be to sign up for a class. Dave was very helpful through the entire process and made the course really engaging (not an easy task for a 3-hour evening weekday slot). Even more impressive is how attentive Dave has been (and continues to be) even after my official time with the course has concluded - he has offered to continue helping me by analyzing my CAT exam scores and hop on phone calls to help talk through ways to improve. Thanks to Dave and the staff at Manhattan Prep for the helpful study materials and personalized instruction
Tyler Johnson was an awesome teacher!
I took the GRE Manhattan Prep 8 week course — I had not done any prep prior to enrolling in the course and increased my combined score 12 points. My biggest issue was taking too much time on quant questions, while I knew I could get the answer, Tyler gave me excellent tricks that cut my timing down substantially. He helped me think about the problems in different ways so I could move through them quickly. Sitting down with a review book and working your way through it can be so overwhelming, so Tyler helped me understand what exactly I needed to memorize to be successful on the GRE. I ended up scoring above 165 on quant after scoring a 155 on my diagnostic — thanks to Tyler & Manhattan prep! Amidst the COVID-19 crisis, Tyler seamlessly transitioned from in-person sessions to zoom and helped us navigate the at-home option. I also found the essay prep was highly effective — both in person and in the review books. It is difficult to gauge how you are doing when you aren't getting scored on practice tests, but understanding the basic principles of the essay scoring through Tyler's lessons I was able to score a 5 without much time spent prepping for the essays.
David Mahler at Manhattan Prep is awesome!
When I started my GMAT journey, I scored a 490 on my first Manhattan CAT. I was certainly not one of those "Score a 740 in 20 days" stories. In David's Manhattan prep class I learned all of the ground-up framework necessary to understand the GMAT and strategize how to conquer it. Equally as important, as the COVID-19 crisis emerged, David and Manhattan prep made the transition to online learning seamless. At this point David and I had started private tutoring and he was able to give me a structured workload with followup meetings to keep me on track. As I continued to advance, David and I dug deeper into different strategies to tackle the toughest questions while reinforcing the framework that was built in the beginning. After scoring a 680 GMAT on my first run, there was no panic and David refocused my approach to improve on my weakest sections. The results speak for themselves and on my second go, I scored a 740. I am over the moon with my score and how far I've come, and I can not thank David enough for his help and guidance!
Ally was an incredible GMAT tutor
Ally was an incredible GMAT tutor. During our time together, we had to shift around our schedule because I had a busy time at work, as well as COVID-19 and Ally was incredibly helpful in re-aligning my strategy to what I needed and what i could do during the time. During our sessions, she was thoughtful, clear, and understanding. She helped me with both my math and verbal scores, and I ended up in the 96th percentile in my verbal score.
When we first started studying together, I told her my goal score. I took the GMAT last week and achieved that score - thank you so much Ally!

Manhattan Prep gave me the foundation i needed before diving in for 3-months of studying for the GMAT. Richard Wright was a great teacher! He set a great mood for the class, and was very good at explaining anything that the class had questions on. I highly recommend a Manhattan Prep course with Richard!
Great course!
I like the way the syllabus is structured, all the available resources to study and how lessons walk you thru the process step by step.
