Back billing for energy bills was…

Back billing for energy bills was outlawed 7 years ago.
However it took BBC radio 4 programme moneybox to highlight it is still happening today.
Ofgem had no one available to go on the Radio programme to answer vital questions.

Ofgem are a waste of time and cannot even enforce legislation so why do we have them?
They only help the suppliers and not the consumer, total waste of time.
There legislation clearly states about suppliers back billing rules yet Eon still do it and no one can do anything to enforce it. Why do we as consumers pay for all these governing bodies we could use that money to pay our bills.

Appallingly bad

Ofgem state "We are the energy regulator for Great Britain. We work to protect energy consumers, especially vulnerable people, by ensuring they are treated fairly".

This is untrue and deceitful as the company is expected to fulfill its PSED s149 EQA 2010 and apply any s20 EQA 2010 reasonable adjustments to assist those who are severely limited in what they can do.

Our energy company doesn't provide accurate bills as required by Ofgem. Many entries are estimated because the reading company can't be bothered to show up as stated in the Priority Register.

Ofgem have no understanding or clue what they are doing other than assisting utility companies increase their eye watering profits. With Octopus revenues recorded in 2024 as £13 billion with profits of £203 million according to Energy Live news, this outfit plus the regulator don't make sure energy bills are timely or accurate leaving vulnerable people in the potential situation of debt. Not only that do they report such debt to credit agencies, further compounding the misery of such people who struggle with day to day living.

Ofgem is not fit for purpose and I allege is certainly is breaking the law Their response from their agent Michael Oyesanya provided no evidence of discharge of s149 which was the point of the inquiry which took months to respond. His only direction was to the Energy Ombudsman who also have not done these public duties. What a surprise to be directed to a body who awards pitiful amounts which do not act as a disincentive to energy companies seeking extortionate profits by reducing their lawfully required services.

This regulator operates in a discriminatory fashion as it fails to recognise and act on those who policies are indirectly discriminatory.

Our energy company response: We'll wait for court papers.

That would be excellent if the civil justice system were functioning but that is as bad with backlogs and inability to instruct solicitors and barristers in a timely manner.

Misery upon misery from a discriminatory and corrupt regulator.

I have raised concerns about the UK with the UN and I allege that government including these useless bodies wish to cause harm by inaction on those they deem not worthy of keeping alive. It is my contention that government bodies such as the DWP and these regulators seek to remove those elderly, unemployed, disabled by inaction. All are aware of the problems yet don't act as they state. When asked about the DWP impact assessment the DWP revealed they had only assessed those on social security and not on the basis of the protected characteristic of age and disability. Poverty is not a protected characteristic 4 Months on and no response from the Minister of Disabled People Stephen Timms, nor from any DWP Minister nor from the Cabinet Office.

I fear for the lives of those too poor, elderly or disabled to be able to keep warm to the healthy minimum and eat properly. Ofgem seeks to carry on with government policy and kill those people off it seems. Charming. What a horror it is to live in the UK thanks to the government and its toothless, taxpayer maintained regulators like Ofgem,

Ofgem.....what a deceiving institution

Ofgem.....what a deceiving institution. Their latest announcement of "forcing" energy companies to provide a tariff without standing charge is already agreed to be even worse for any average household or even for households which are not occupied on a regular basis. Here my prediction what will be on offer....No Standing Charge energy tariffs will have two unit rates. Unit Rate 1 is collected for the first 1 kWh of electricity or 1 kWh of gas used PER DAY. Unit Rate 2 applies for all remaining kWh of electricity or gas used in the day. So rather than having one rate you are expected to pay over 50% of your current maximum standing charge per day for the 1st kWh per day. If your connected essentials are using 1 kWh a day e.g. one Fridge/Freezer you end up paying 50% more per month compare to a standard tariff with a maximum standing charge as it is currently in place.....Another deceiving stunt from Ofgem and the energy sector....

Racist Company

I rented a flat with a very old gas meter, seemingly installed in the 1970s or 1980s which does not have a full meter number. I needed my MPRN so I called the find my supplier phone line.
The Woman who answered the call keep saying I mixed up things and that's not a gas meter. I told her more than once that it is a old one so I do not have the modern format meter number. Then She accused me being angry to her and hung up, very likely because of my English accent and lack of vocabulary to express myself as a normal white British.

Fancy that 1 star

Fancy that 1 star, and you oversee energy companies. Well Eon stole £840.02p from my account and you have tried to condone this. Well they had no meter reading chose an amount of money maybe to use towards bonuses or Christmas parties. Went into my bank account and stole said amount . My rent and food money and you can’t help me. Merry Christmas bah humbugs enjoy your trimmings.

Pointless organisation

I don’t understand this organisations existence. Called to ask them about GBIS scheme and was told it has closed down which is not what it states on their website. When I pointed this out to Jolly she told me about another scheme that she knows off which has closed. She was unable to check internally about the scheme I was referring to or pass me to another department. Absolutely useless service and staff.

AN ORGANISATION HAS TO BE "TRULY BAD" OR CORRUPT [AND COMPLICIT IN THIS CASE] TO HAVE A 99% DISSATISFACTIION [ONE STAR] SCORE ON TRUSTPILOT. OFGEM HAVE FULLY SHOWN ME [VIA THEIR DEEDS AND DISINTEREST IN REGULATING THE EDF PROCESSES THAT WAS IDENTIFIED TO THEM] WHY THEY FULLY DESERVE THIS "99% PUBLIC DISTRUST BADGE OF SHAME". IF THE LIST OF COMMENTS / POST HERE ARE READ IT GIVE THE PROFILE OF A "USELESS AND TOTALL IMMORAL ORGANISATION" THAT ARE IN-PLACE TO SUPPORT THE ENERY COMPANIES AND TO "KEEP THE PUBLIC FOOLED" THAT THEIR RULES ARE IN-PLACE FOR THE PÚBLICS PROTECTION

An organization set up to support the right of energy suppliers increase what they charge.
Yes that is offgem.com.
All suppliers more than double the daily charge to claw back any shortfall due to restrictions on unit kwh rates because offgem.com allow this increase by the back door so to speak. I think another example of how big bossiness and government collude to get as much from consumers as they can. Much needed is an independent regulator which I think will never happen. Sorry consumers you are just cash cows for this industry

Is Ofgem owned by the energy companies because they are definitely not there for the people.
They seem to hide this fact by reducing the cap when the least amount of energy is used ie summer them completely rip you off when winter arrives. I wonder how many brown envelopes are passed around between Ofgem and energy companies.
Just another example of rip off Britain
