Disappointing First Impression

I recently called On Her Bike in Aylesbury to ask about a potential part exchange for my bike and spoke with Robbie. Right from the start, the experience was underwhelming. Rather than showing any interest in what I was looking for or taking the time to understand my needs, he went straight into the hurdles. He said my bike would need to be seen by underwriters and that I’d have to provide all the details over the phone.

For a lifestyle brand selling fun and excitement, the call felt more like a tick-box exercise than a genuine conversation. A bit of enthusiasm or even an invitation to come down, see the bikes, and have a chat would have gone a long way.

I hope Robbie takes this as constructive feedback and considers how he can improve his sales techniques. The motorcycle industry isn’t exactly booming right now, and with experiences like this, it’s easy to see why. Sadly, I’ll be taking my business elsewhere.

At On Yer Bike, we specialise in specific brands and types of motorcycles that align with our core business and customer base. As you noted, your bike was a Harley-Davidson, which falls outside of our usual stock and expertise for part exchange.

When a customer offers a part exchange for a brand we don't typically retail or carry, the process is necessarily different than for a bike within our usual range. It requires us to contact specialist buyers or underwriters in the trade network who do deal with those specific brands to obtain an accurate and fair valuation. This isn't a quick or straightforward process, and valuations for bikes outside a dealer's specialism can indeed sometimes differ from expectations, as they are subject to the current market demand for that specific model within the trade.

Robbie was following our standard procedure for this situation by explaining this upfront and gathering the necessary details to explore the possibility of a part exchange value for your Harley-Davidson through our contacts.

While we understand you were looking for a different kind of interaction, when assessing the viability of a part exchange for a non-standard bike, the focus of the initial call has to be on whether we can realistically take your bike in and at what potential value, before spending time discussing potential new purchases or test rides which may ultimately not be feasible. This approach is intended to be efficient and transparent, even if the news about the part exchange isn't what the customer hoped for.

In an industry where some dealers are struggling we are keeping very busy, and this is largely due to our focus on and expertise in the brands we specialise in. While we always strive to help customers where we can, sometimes we are genuinely not the right dealership for a specific part exchange.

Bought a ebike from there Blackburn…

Bought a ebike from there Blackburn branch and when it arrived it had an issue with the battery,it was loose ,I called them up and the technician Ollie was really helpful and talked me through how to resolve the issue,100% recommend these guys well done

The service that I received from Ian in the service department was second to none,from arranging the collection from Norfolk the warranty repairs and the delivery back to my house. Will definitely be using them again cannot recommend enough

Fantastic experience

Fantastic experience. Accidentally ordered two of the same visor. On Yer Bike rang to check, suspecting it was an error, cancelled one of the visors and arranged next-day delivery for the other.
Excellent customer service.
