Having researched Backpacker insurance…
Having researched Backpacker insurance I called Outbacker today for a quote and to ask a long list of questions. Nicky was very helpful and well informed so I felt comfortable about taking out cover with this company. Hopefully I won't have to claim but should the need arise, I feel reassured that my cover is adequate and that help will be immediately available.

I would not recommend Outbacker to…
I would not recommend Outbacker to anyone.
Outbacker Insurance has attempted to dodge, duck, and dive almost every claim I have made. If they have paid, it has been after months of emails requesting documents they either don't need or already have. I paid for the premium insurance but they still tried to subtract excess from one of the claims.
I have lost a phone and had injury on my trip and they have refused to pay for either of these, despite clear evidence. They use cleverly worded policy documents which allow them to avoid payment.

We have contacted Davies and CEGA - the claims handlers appointed by your insurer who have informed us of the following:
Davies - the gadgets claims handlers - informed us that they have reviewed your claim for the lost phone, and they have tried to reach you but unable to get through. However, your claim has now been settled.
CEGA - informed us that they are still awaiting for some documents they have requested you. Until you provide the relevant documentation they are unable to proceed with your claims. They have also logged a complaint on your behalf, which will be dealt with separately from your claims. We note that the complaint outcome may take up to a month. If you require further information in regards to your claims and the required documentation, please contact directly CEGA at 01473 921 258, or reply to their emails accordingly.

Fantastic Customer Service
I rarely write reviews but I feel that my experience with Outbacker deserves one. I had to claim for a medical emergency (cancer scare) whilst abroad earlier this year. The call handler was extremely empathetic to my situation and all further communication through calls and emails were helpful and made the whole experience a lot less stressful. My claim was handled quickly and efficiently without me having to chase for updates - in fact it was the other way round. I was also pleasantly surprised to be fully refunded for all medical costs incurred whilst abroad as well as my emergency flight home (minus excess). All in all I think it took about a month from first contact to the money being back in my account. I have never had to claim on insurance before and had low expectations but this company was fantastic and I can’t recommend enough.
