Outequip Best VAN A/C unit

We used to hear complaints from the kids about the car not cooling in the back of our 15-passenger van for our road trips in Arizona. After getting this outequip A/C for our Ford Transit, the most recent roadtrips were filled with "thank you" and the airflow from the A/C unit was quiet, comfortable and perfect. Thank you, Outequip!

OutEquip 12volt roof Air conditioner on Chevy Express Van Install

From start to finish prep work and install total 8 hours. I first started by moving my existing 3 ea 100watt solar panels out of the way. Then removing my fan unit from the 14”x14” cutout cleaning area around cutout for mounting gasket. I then rerouted the power cable to be installed through the inside of unit. It was easier than expected to do this and went smoothly. Once I got the unit on top of van leaving it in the box to move up the latter without scratches I placed the 14”x14” gasket in place and caulked around lower edges. Placed unit in cutout with ease of alignment. It was a bit of work to rout my cables with existing interior sealing in place but carefully completed that. Probably in the end that’s what took the longest time. Happy to say everything went well with following the manual and watching a few installs on youtube planing ahead for each step to take while installing. I also was able to mount my existing solar panels forward of the AC unit leaving plenty of room for the unit to keep cool while running.
Company was easy to work with and answered all of my questions promptly. Unit arrived on time without damage.

Super efficient rooftop A/C w/heater

I recently hired Live-A-Little Vans in Connecticut install the OutEquipPro Summit2 OEP2500 12V rooftop air conditioner w/heater in my Ford Transit 250 camper. I appreciate to compact design, low weight, and efficiency of this unit. The unit was shipped promptly to the installer and Live-A-Little had installed in less than 2 days. Since the van is very well insulated and I don’t intend camping in extreme heat or frigid temperatures, the 10,000 BTU unit is more than adequate. The power draw is relatively low, so my existing LiFePO4 infrastructure can easily handle the load. No invertor power loss from converting 120VAC to 12VDC and the unit is whisper quiet.
I also appreciate the quick response from OutEquip’s customer service. When I asked for an electronic copy of the unit’s owner’s manual, they sent me one in a matter of hours.
I look forward to years of reliable air conditioning and heating from my OutEquipPro rooftop unit.

Excellent customer service, energy efficient & affordable product

I recently purchased the Summit 2 12V rooftop a/c unit from OutEquipPro to install on my 2020 Ford Transit 250 camper van.

I encountered a few issues with the install due to having a thicker-than-average roof which required me to purchase longer screws. I also wasn't confident in my understanding of the electrical system requirements and wanted to make sure the system would work with my Jackery.

I reached out to customer support for each of those topics separately, and was really impressed with both the speed and quality of their responses. Not only does OutEquipPro have a high-quality, energy efficient, and affordable product, their customer service team (including really elegant AI Agents) are killing it.

Great job, y'all. Thanks for all the support.

Great product, excellent customer service support!!

We bought the OutEquipPro 10,000 btu rooftop AC/heater for our 2015 Ram ProMaster.
So far it has been a great experience. We’ve only had it installed for two weeks now.
The A/C unit was easy to install, lightweight and sleek, quiet, and is performing at or better than spec.
I haven’t tested in all situations, but preliminary testing is showing great results.
One thing has me puzzled…. They have a Bluetooth module, which is not offered or seen during the checkout process on their website….
It would be great to have the option of having the Bluetooth module installed prior to shipping, as an add-on.
I recommend this product.

Excellent Performance

This Glacier Pro model has been a great addition to my RV. Cooling performance is steady, and the 12V heat pump is something I didn’t think would work this well—it’s been a game changer. Install was easy, and customer service was very responsive during the process.

Smooth Install & Great Cooling

Installed this unit on my van and the cooling has been excellent. Customer support answered my wiring questions right away, which gave me confidence during setup. One tip I got from them—don’t overtighten the mounting bolts. Just hand tight or 1–2 Nm is enough.

The unit is not what they advertise

The unit is not what they advertise. Do not buy if your batteries are located more than 12 feet away. Outequip encourages reckless electrical wiring. I asked 2 electricians and 2 companies who make 12v AC units and nobody supports their wiring approach. Outequip claims “real world results make it fine to do” but have zero data to back up their claim that contradicts basic electrical data. They don’t honor their return policy. Their marketing is highly deceptive. The alternative wiring approach they tell you to do is more complicated than a DIY unit and is not safe.

Thank you for raising your concerns and giving us the opportunity to share our expertise. OutEquipPro has been in the air conditioning industry for many years, and our products are the result of careful design, real-world field testing, and a deep understanding of electrical systems. We are not simply resellers—we engineer solutions built for safety, durability, and off-grid reliability.

1) Industry Standards on Voltage Drop

ABYC E-11 (marine/RV DC wiring):
• 3% maximum drop for critical circuits (navigation, electronics).
• Up to 10% drop for non-critical loads such as A/C.

NEC best practice: 3% per branch, 5% total system drop for efficiency.

Since A/C is a comfort load, up to 10% drop is permitted. In practice, we design for ~4–5%.

2) Why the Factory 6 AWG / 12 ft Lead Is Safe(Summit 2 – 12V Unit)

• One-way length: 12 ft (≈24 ft loop).
• Copper 6 AWG ≈ 0.00040 Ω/ft → Loop ≈ 0.0096 Ω.
• At 58 A (Turbo): ≈ 0.56 V drop (~4.6%).

Well within ABYC’s 10% allowance and close to the 5% good-practice target.

3) Recommended Wire Sizes for Extended Runs (58 A)

Using standard copper AWG resistances at ~68°F/20 °C:

• Up to 40 ft loop (20 ft one-way): Min 4 AWG (~4.8%) | Best 2 AWG (~3.0%).
• Up to 60 ft loop (30 ft one-way): Min 2 AWG (~4.5%) | Best 1/0 AWG (~2.9%).
• Up to 80 ft loop (40 ft one-way): Min 1 AWG (~4.8%) | Best 2/0 AWG (~3.0%).

Tip: Heat, multiple junctions, or engine-bay routing add resistance—when in doubt, step up one size.

4) Why This Is the Right Practice

ABYC E-11: Comfort loads may allow up to 10% drop; we aim for 4–5% to ensure reliable compressor performance.

NEC guidance: ≤3% per branch, ≤5% overall is considered best practice.

Industry references: Blue Sea Systems, Paneltronics, and ABYC training guides all size wire using current, loop length, and allowable drop.

References you can check:

• ABYC E-11 Standards (marine DC systems)
• Blue Sea Systems – Circuit Wizard & Wire Sizing Guide
• NEC voltage drop informational note, NFPA 70

In short: Our wire size chart is not arbitrary—it is based on ABYC and NEC standards, published resistance data, and real-world testing of our inverter A/C.

5) Built-In Safety Practices

• 100 A inline fuse (12v unit - factory-installed).
• Properly crimped lugs and busbars.
• Short runs wherever possible; heavier gauge for extensions.

6) How You Can Verify Yourself

• Measure DC voltage at the battery and again at the A/C input (Turbo).
• Record current with a clamp meter.
• Calculate drop % = (Vbattery − Vunit) ÷ Vbattery × 100.
• This test will confirm the estimates above.

What If the Voltage Drop Is Too High?

• ≤ 5%: Excellent — within best practice.
• 6–9%: Acceptable for a comfort load, but efficiency may be reduced. If possible, upgrade wiring or shorten the run.
• ≥ 10%: Above ABYC allowance. This can cause poor cooling, harder compressor starts, or trigger the A/C’s low-voltage protection.

Solutions if drop ≥ 10%

1. Use a heavier gauge cable – if you extended the cord, step up one or two sizes.
2. Improve connections – check lugs, crimps, fuse blocks, and busbars; corrosion or looseness can add major resistance.
3. Reduce heat build-up – in hot zones like engine bays, resistance rises; use thicker cable or reroute if needed.

Bottom line: Our wiring guidance is not “reckless.” It follows ABYC and NEC best practices, transparent calculations, and the proven efficiency of our inverter compressor design. For unique installations, we are happy to recommend exact wire gauges and provide a tailored one-page diagram.

Warranty & Returns
If you are ever unhappy with your A/C unit, we back it with a 1-year warranty. We will gladly help with a warranty claim, arrange an exchange, or provide a full refund.

I was nervous about cutting into the roof of my van, especially with a curved ceiling, but the CS team walked me through every step. Their support was responsive, detailed, and patient. The unit runs quietly (I measured 40 dB in sleep mode!) and cools my van in 30 mins. I’ve got it connected to a 400Ah lithium battery and the runtime is impressive thanks to the inverter technology. Highly recommend😍

Top-Tier Customer Support and Product Performance

Their customer service is on another level. I asked a ton of questions about power wiring, ceiling gaps, and air return clearance—and every answer was fast, clear, and honest. I even got help picking the right gauge wire and how to adapt to my setup. The AC itself is efficient. On eco mode, I get hours of runtime with minimal battery drain. Truly a pro-grade setup for van life.

Lacking CUSTOMER SUPPORT

To start, I’ve requested a phone number for customer service, nothing. My unit arrived and the connection end for the power supply, ‘battery’, I thought was to be an Andersen Plug connector, as seen in multiple YouTube videos. Mine has no Andersen connector, so I now need to configure that with a crimp tool I don’t have at the moment. For $1000 unit, I expected at least this connector, but more importantly, a phone number to contact a human for resolve. Not happy at this point and it’s not even installed yet.

Hi Keith,

Thank you for your honest feedback — I completely understand your frustration, and I’m here to help make things right.

We truly value every customer and want to assure you that while we currently provide support by email and online chat (to ensure accurate technical assistance), we promise to respond within 1-12 hours — including weekends and holidays. You’re never alone with the installation or setup process — we’ll walk with you every step of the way.

Regarding the Anderson connector:

You're correct — some earlier review videos show an Anderson plug pre-installed. However, based on customer feedback, we made an update in our latest production batches:

Easier Installation: Many customers found the Anderson plug too bulky to route through their walls or roof openings.

Simplified Wiring: Many preferred to hardwire the cable directly to their power system or fuse box for a cleaner, more streamlined setup.

We truly appreciate your business and your feedback. Our team is always available to answer questions, provide wiring guidance, and ensure your system runs smoothly. We’re committed to helping you get the most out of your AC unit — and to turning this experience around.

Best regards,
Michael

Customer support is nonexistent

For a company that claims customer support is a priority, they are completely missing the mark. There is no way to contact them other than email. I'm ready to buy, but can't get a response to a few simple questions. If it's this difficult just to place an order, I can't imagine how bad the support must be after the sale when they already have your money.
