Pickup Music Avis 

Been with Pickup Music now for 2.5 years - can honestly say joining them was the best decision I made. Before joining, I was an OK intermediate guitarist - I could learn songs & solos and replicate them to a decent standard, but just couldn't seem to progress from there. I'd hit the dreaded intermediate ceiling.. Being self-taught, I understood lots of fragments of knowledge, learnt from books and Youtube vids over the years, but struggled to join all the dots, to see the whole picture. I was able to bluff my way through a solo, but I didn't really know what I was doing or why.

So the big thing for me with Pickup is the clear, structured approach to learning. The courses are modular, presenting concepts in easy to digest 'daily' lessons that build up over time, so that you end up finally seeing that big picture. Learning in small, regular chunks seems to help embed it permanently in my memory too, especially with the clear graphics and backing tracks they use. It's been a revelation. Even concepts I thought I knew well, I've taken the courses thinking it would just be a revision exercise & realised that there were crucial gaps in my knowledge that had been stunting my progress.

There is a strong, supportive community of other musicians if you want to get involved (but you don't have to). The instructors are all active on the site, readily available for contact & I have found the one-to-one feedback particularly useful. New lessons are constantly being added & updated and they've even added piano & bass lessons now too - all included in the basic subscription.

On subscription, I had never paid for one before - my attitude was why pay anything, when there's so much free stuff on the net..? I did the two week free trial and realised what an incredible resource I was getting for for less than the price of a cup of coffee per week. My advice to anyone wondering if it's worth it - just do the trial & see for yourself. For me, it's been a game-changer.

There hasn’t been a single time I’ve been upset and wanted more out of this subscription. Everything an upcoming or even long-time musician needs to improve their skills, outside of having a real-life teacher, can be found at Pickup Music.

This is by far the best, most structured and comprehensive online guitar school. I started with Pickup at 61 years old about a year ago. I had fumbled around for a couple months prior to that but only after starting the beginner program at Pickup, did I start seeing real progress.

I am now 2/3 of the way through Late Beginner after completing the Beginner course.

Karl Kerfoot, who is the instructor for both Beginner and Late Beginner is a great teacher. I have also started Caged with Molly Miller, who is also great.

I just renewed my membership for another year and IMO, it is worth much more than the $180 per year they charge.

Pickup music is the best thing I've done for my guitar playing since buying a guitar. I wasted so much time watching random videos on You Tube to the point where I was getting lost and not really going anywhere even though I was learning bits here and there. My progress over the last few months with pickup is sustained,measured and noticeable. I prefer a structured approach and pick up gives me just that. Each time I play I know what I'm doing and yet it never feels like homework as It's fun to play along with the material.
The lessons are very clever in their design.
They are well presented,engaging and short.
They zero right in on what is needed to help you make swift progress with techniques/concepts.
So I far I have found that everything is explained in a way that I haven't struggled to understand it.
You are always playing to a metronome or a music track and my timing has improved drastically. You can slow down a track to get things down,you can speed it up to help build speed. You can loop a difficult section. You can download audio so you can jam freestyle over it and my favourite feature is uploading a performance piece for a qualified instructor to provide feedback. It's such a good feature.
It feels like you are following a graded musical path.
I am finding it unbelievable value for money,it really is. There is so much content and everything I have done so far has been totally worth it.
If you're on the fence get off it and signup;if you like structure you won't regret it.

Has taken me to levels I never expected to get to, in a timeframe I didn’t think was possible.

Breaking it down to such a granular level is the best part about Pickup Music learning. For me this was more about those finer techniques I feel are getting me closer to sounding like a better guitarist. While on Karl's late beginner pathway I also worked through the 2/3 system with Spencer and lately I finally feel like my learning curve is moving steeply upward again after a bit of a plateau. I've not taken advantage of the feedback option yet. I struggle with rheumatoid arthritis, my hands often hurt and are weak, but having this as a yearly subscription I can play and learn on days I feel good, go at my own pace, and the muscle and strength I've regained in my fretting hand since starting this course almost a year ago has been visible and a I can feel it too. Wonderful investment, I'll be resubscribing for another year for sure. Can't wait to crack the intermediate level

The platform is incredibly good. I love that they use genuinely fun songs to teach, and the videos are so well made. It really keeps me motivated to continue!

I have a subscription and have found the course useful however it’s let down by a very buggy app, I can be enjoying a lesson and then as I move onto the next practice peice it freezes and there’s no audio, I then have to go and fetch my MacBook, log in again and restart, takes the enjoyment out of it tbh. It has got me to late beginner but I don’t think I’ll renew for the 2nd year.

Paid 43$ is alot if you don't have enough time to learn i am wasting my money.

Supper class

This is easily the best money I've ever spent on improving my guitar playing skills. Each learning pathway is well structured and helps improve your guitar playing ability day-by-day. I've been recommending it to everyone I know that plays guitar.

I started a trial and enjoyed a course I did over a few days but decided I wouldn’t continue with a subscription but I somehow hadn’t canceled my trial.

Anyway, a year later I noticed all these charges in my bank account I didn’t realise I was accumulating and received no emails about the subscription starting or the monthly charges(apparently I was meant to, which is expected)

I fully expecting to have to wear the fact that I lost a few hundred dollars and after checking that I hadn’t even signed into the program all year, they gave me a full refund. I want to pick up music for restoring my faith in humanity. 🙂

Pickup Music is by far the best platform to learn guitar and music theory more generally I came across. I took over 5 years of classes at a music school, and pickup is by far much more fun, engaging and well structured.

The culture of the team and members is very supportive, positive and refreshing. Sometimes, I just watch the video courses as if I was watching a Netflix series.

I made a significant progress playing guitar in less than a year, thanks to pickup, and I look forward to moving forward on all the other exciting pathways :)

No prices displayed. You have to signup, and then see crazy high yearly subscription price. Feels like scam website after this.

I've been playing guitar since I was a kid and the last few years found myself stuck in a rut, not really knowing how I could advance my playing. There are some really great YouTube videos out there on different learning paths, but I found it difficult to know where to start or how to connect what I'd learned to my playing. I saw ads for PickUp and said I'd give the free trial a go. No exaggeration, I've learned more in a two week free trial than I have in 5+ years of random YouTube rabbit holes. I'm amazed. I'm not sure if it's the same for everyone, but PickUp seemed to have started me on a pathway that exactly matched my level and the lessons presented info in a clear, easy way I wasn't able to find on my own. This review might sound a little overinflated, but honestly, as I said I'm just amazed at how easy it has been to finally start connecting the dots and all it took was a couple of really well-structured videos from these guys. I also like that the videos are broken up into bite-sized lessons that are simple to follow, but not too simple that a fast learner would get bored. I'm going to continue to pay the subscription because I think it's little money for the learnings I'm getting from it. Seriously impressed. Keep up the good work PickUp Team!

Markets itself as a serious music tutorial site but the quality is wildly variable and includes things that are absolutely wrong. I can live with mistakes but when I raised mistakes they tried to gaslight me. Gutted that I paid for a full year upfront as I have zero confidence in the content and won’t be using it again. I’ve been burned so you don’t have to be. Avoid

Always fee till you give all your personal info. Oops, now it's almost €140 a year. Marketing bullshit.

I have started with a 3 star review because I havent even used any part of this other than filling out the profile to start using it and opening an account will change after I do a thorough deep dive into this system and way of retaining skill and information. Thank you kindly -Mike D.
