I only had to send a quick email if I wasn’t sure about something, and I would receive a response either that day or the following. Firstly the books are top quality, people always comment on how nice they look and feel, which is great. But the main reason I'd give for a five star review is the excellent customer service. Nothing is too much trouble, staff are unfailingly helpful and supportive and always answer emails and phone calls, giving good advice and patiently explaining what can feel quite a complex process. Finally, bookshops are usually very happy to stock my books, which isn't always the case with indie books.

My book has become real! Many thanks to the lovely staff who were open to discussion at all stages.

From the first email I sent to receiving my own copies of my children’s books, I have found Troubador Publishing to be professional, helpful and supportive. As this is a debut children’s book, I really needed guidance from start to finish. All the people I’ve spoken to or communicated with have helped me along the way, answering questions, having video calls and keeping me informed and updated.

Troubador allowed me the chance to get my book published, my second book, in fact, which wouldn't have been possible otherwise. I felt the publication process went smoother this time, perhaps because I realized more of what to expect.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and answered queries promptly. I wasn't happy with the proofreading service last time so avoided it second time round. One or two areas I felt could be improved. They seem to like taking control of the front cover so that my illustrations seemed to take a less important role. They were very helpful with the technical side of things. I only wish that it wasn't so dependant on the internet. For instance, I found the early part frustrating, like adding an electronic signature and having to wait to find out if it had been processed properly. It would have been so much easier to have just sent in a copy by post.

I enjoyed working with the production controller on most things. She took the time out to answer queries personally, although she must have had many more assignments.. In fact, everyone seemed friendly and kept the ball rolling.

From manuscript to publication was effortless; such a good team keeping me informed at every step along the way. Brilliant.

The publishing experience was a bit daunting for me, largely because I went into it with so little understanding of how it all worked.
I looked at the range of self-publishing options and decided that Troubador occupied a happy middle ground between those who simply produce a book (viable if your project is something just for a family and friends) and those who are closer to the conventional publisher in operation, except that the author pays (they would have done more than Troubador on the promotion, but I thought the cost prohibitive).
Working through the process, I dealt with about 5 different people at Troubador, all of them friendly, efficient and professional. And I was very pleased with how the final book turned out. Having said that, I was surprised how much input I made on real basics, like the cover appearance and the page layout (font and margin sizes) possibly because they’re less geared to books such as mine (specialist non fiction). They also didn’t add as much to the marketing as I'd hoped, I imagine because of the specialist nature of the book.
My main regret was on the launch: the book was ready well in advance of the formal publication date, so I launched it then (November). But Amazon, who are a law unto themselves, did not make it available until the publication date (end-January). That meant my reasonably successful publicity efforts did not easily translate into sales. I think Troubador might have provided a better steer on that point.
I do think Troubador were the right choice for me and I would definitely recommend them.

It was a pleasure dealing with an efficient company with high standards. I particularly appreciated how easy it was to get in touch with whoever was dealing with an aspect of the publication. They answered phones quickly and replied promptly to emails. I am delighted with the finished product.

My book 'Tsushima: Japan's Trafalgar' was published in May 2022. The cost was worth every penny and I was 100% happy with the result. The layout and printing font/style etc. were very professional in appearance. The team was extremely helpful every step of the way and gave me much-appreciated advice, answering every query. In choosing to do my own proof-reading, due to the extra cost of using a professional, there was a risk of various errors slipping through, but this is no reflection on Troubador's work, which produced a book that was better than I expected. For any author considering self-publishing I have no hesitation in recommending Troubador.

Having now received copies of my book, The Whispering Wall, I am really pleased with the quality of production. The books are printed on high-quality white paper and feel like a premium product.

I recently published my novel 'The White City' through Troubadour, and like many people was initially apprehensive about the process of 'self-publishing' and the product I might end up with. I'm pleased to say that the experience has been both satisfying and seamless, and I'm delighted with the finished book. Several local bookshops have agreed to stock it and I've found the various events and blogs Troubadour offer to be especially useful in helping not just with the initial production but also with the follow up marketing and promotion. The highest praise I can give is that if I ever get round to completing a second novel I won't even try to pursue a traditional agent/publisher route, but will definitely follow this process again.

I have just read ‘Hazelgrove’ by Janet Beacom. I hope this is the right place to review it. It is a great book in the Maeve Binchy tradition and is well worth the read. the story is heartwarming and fulfilling. The production quality is excellent.
