Outstanding care for our property and…

Outstanding care for our property and thoughtful advice at all times. We had an opportunity to use another agency however I genuinely believe no other agency could beat UC for loyalty, customer care and courtesy. They always check our guests are a good fit for our home and if they are unsure, always ask our opinion and permission. I've booked several times with unique cottages and never had a problem, any queries have been sorted quickly.
Polite knowledgeable staff, good communication with payments, I have another holiday booked with them now

Fabulous holiday in the Borders

Excellent facilities at South Persie House

South Persie House was ideal for our family New Year break. There was plenty room, a great kitchen lots of living space and the bedrooms were spacious with plenty storage. The separate heated swimming pool was the highlight, especially for the grandchildren who loved it. All in all, a great place.

We had a highly disappointing…

We had a highly disappointing experience with Unique Cottage. Our original booking was for seven nights at a remote property in Glendale during snowy weather. We specifically asked if our standard rental car (a SUV, but not a 4x4) would be suitable for driving up to the house, and Unique Cottage assured us that it would be no problem. Once we arrived after a long drive, we discovered the road was dangerously icy and steep—neighbors confirmed that only a four-wheel drive could handle it safely.
We then learned that the property owner decided to cancel our entire reservation, rather than just the single night we couldn’t stay. What frustrated us most was that Unique Cottage had led us to believe the access would be manageable and, despite these circumstances, they offered no help in finding any last-minute alternative. It left us stranded after a long journey and forced us to scramble for new accommodations under stressful conditions. We would not recommend booking through Unique Cottage, as the information they provided was inaccurate and the support they offered when things went wrong was virtually nonexistent.

My colleagues made every effort to secure alternative accommodation, including contacting the owner of our only other available property on Skye, but they were unreachable to confirm availability. We regret that no alternative options were available and are sorry your experience did not meet your expectations.

Give them a wide, wide berth.

They kept the deposit and gave spurious reasons for it. When I questioned it, they sent pictures : Some paper I left as fire starter in the wood burner was described as ‘paper all over the floor’ and the recyclable I forgot to take ou was described in equally extravagant terms. They sent workmen to the cottage while I was there, the workmen did not take their muddy boots off before entering the cottage, and they blamed me for the dirty floor. They claimed it took them three hours to clean the cottage, which was the size of post stamp and left in good condition. They also blamed me for braking the toilet, which I did not.
I must conclude that they are either complete liars or that they asked a toddler to do the cleaning. I’ll let you decide which is more likely.

I should specify, the cause of the problem is the owner of the cottage who has decided to swindle me, but unique cottages is giving them a free pass.

If you do chose to book through this company, make sure to take pictures of the place when you arrive, and expect no honesty, good faith or assistance from Unique cottages. This business is an utter disgrace.

Thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry to hear about your concerns. The owner has provided photographic evidence showing the condition of the property after your departure, which required significantly more time than usual to prepare for the next guests.
The toilet seat was inspected prior to your arrival and was not broken at that time. Regarding the workmen entering the property, if their visit caused any mess, we would have expected this to be raised with the owner at the time, who could have arranged for it to be cleaned promptly.
We encourage guests to report any issues during their stay so they can be resolved promptly.

Will not use Unique again nor will we recommed.

We have used unique for a number of years and to be honest have had no problems until now. Seems they just don't want to know if you do have a problem. We returned to Liosbeag Cottage in Lewis for the 2nd time last month. There had been a new heating system installed with no easy instructions how to turn up the thermostat, in fact the bathroom didn't have any heat at all. To compound this the wood burner was unsafe as the flue to stove connection was disintegrating. Sadly the weather turned very stormy and cool with no mobile signal we were left cold but as it's a beautiful spot ventured out every day.
We couldn't contact owner as she had deleted her telephone number on the literature in the house requesting that occupants contact Unique.
On our return home we contacted Unique to lodge our complaints and advise a few misdescriptions. They put to owner but when we had no response after 2 weeks we e mailed again. Response was we should have contacted owner????? We have since sent another e mail in the hope of getting at least a small gesture of goodwill and to date - no reply. In summary we will not be using Unique again and certainly would not recommend.

As you are aware, there were very sad circumstances surrounding the property ownership during your stay, which impacted some of the usual contact arrangements. While the original contact number was no longer in use, an alternative number was provided in your final confirmation email, along with our contact details. Your initial email referred to the issues as “observations” and mentioned you had enjoyed your holiday, which is why your comments were treated as feedback rather than a formal complaint. Ourselves and the owners acted promptly to address the issues after your departure, but we would have been able to assist during your stay had we been made aware.

We value your loyalty and hope the many positive experiences you’ve had with us will encourage you to book with Unique Cottages again in the future.

Do not use this company.

They will completely believe anything a property owner says - in our case that we stained 4 towels and broke a despite ABSOLUTELY NO PROOF. They have kept £100 of our deposit and this approach is not unusual if you look at other reviews.

We stayed in Carnmore Cottage in Balquiddher and for the reasons outlined above, would not recommend it.

After careful inspection, we found that some of the towels were badly stained or bleached during your stay, which required us to hold a portion of the deposit to cover the cost of replacement. We provided photographs of the damage to ensure transparency. Additionally, we noticed that a tap was damaged during your stay, but the owner repaired it at no additional charge to you as a gesture of goodwill. We strive to provide all our guests with high-quality accommodation and to maintain it for future guests, which is why our policies are in place. Still years later and not received…

Still years later and not received refund from this company and they refuse to correspond please take note of reviews if you cancel very unlikely to get any refund at all
As I said when incident happened and still now no longer have that payment method so my complaint still stands please refund lost money to one of my active accounts please direct message me on my email you refunded in-active account hence money would of been returned to you still waiting even if partial refund , company very very hard to get in touch with , how can I access refund to non active card , I can’t be the only person who changes credit card company and needs a refund must of happened to millions of people over the years since plastic cards existed please pleas see sense and give me money back for holiday that never happened
Despite the company claiming to give me refund I’ve not had single penny so don’t trust there reply they still owe me £750 of if I remember correctly a refund to closed account doesn’t count and refuse to refund active bank is joke. They say I’m fraudulent

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!

Booked through unique cottages for a 7 night stay in Scotland, then had to cancel in distressing circumstances, a few days before. The company will not refund anything despite taking the cancellation policy out. Note their cancellation policy is not worth anything! It is very misleading!
They relet the cottage so got twice the money in, but will not give anything back! We have lost £1,087!! Currently fighting just to get the housekeeping deposit returned. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!

additional note - they have replied to the review 7 months later. Very unprofessional company, conning people out of their money, deposits and full booking money. Our experience was terrible, do not trust their cancellation policy, it means absolutely nothing.

Misleading information & disappointing service. No thank you!

I wanted to book Inverarish Cottage on the Isle of Raasay for a 3-night break (Wed-Sat), for May in 15-months time. Understandably, the website doesn’t go that far into the future, so I checked the same mid-week dates for this year to get an idea of costs and it showed the price as £450. Upon requesting prices for next year, I was very surprised to receive a reply stating the cost would be £767. This represents an increase of almost 60%! Thinking there must be a mistake, I telephoned Unique Cottages and spoke to a surly “assistant” who confirmed the price. She informed me that there are no confirmed prices for a 3-night break for May this year. I pointed out that prices for a 3-night break in May are clearly listed on their website, but she insisted they are merely suggested prices and customers can’t actually book 3-nights for those dates and prices. I have several concerns about this. Firstly, it’s entirely misleading to list prices at the side of dates for which customers can not make a booking. Secondly, it strikes me as very odd that customers are prohibited from booking available accommodation for dates in 10-weeks’ time. Furthermore, I find it hard to believe that the owner of this holiday accommodation is happy with this policy, given that it must inevitably cause them to lose customers and therefore cost them lost rental income. Finally, the difference in service from Unique Cottages’ advisor, compared to the subsequent AirBnB booking I made, was staggering. Helpful and friendly communication in which my future 3-day booking for 2025 was welcomed; deposit paid and holiday secured smoothly and swiftly. I may only be one (no longer) potential customer, but I shall not give Unique Cottages my custom and I will advise my friends and family similarly. A brief interaction with this company allowed me to understand why their Trust Pilot rating is barely above 3; average. Like their rating, my experience was wholly disappointing.

First time booking, will again

First time booking with Unique Cottages and can say it was straightforward. We had an issue ok arrival at the house but couldn’t get a hold of the owner in the first instance; called customer services at unique and spoke to a lady called Ruth. Ruth was very helpful and advised she would try the owners on another number and would let us know within 10 minutes, true to her word she called back within 10 minutes to advise the owner would be round to fix the problem. Owner came problem solved, and we continued to have a great stay. I would definitely book with them again and will be recommending to others.

Disgusting

After finding out that the cottage I was going to in January not only had building work going on next door, and now I found out that the hot tub that I thought I’d already booked and was all inclusive with the cottage was now optional and I would have to pay an extra £200! This also on top of extra electric if I used over £20 for my time there. I would have to get down and try and take a reading before and after getting there. I suffer from osteoarthritis, hence the want for the hot tub! I was disgusted how I was treated by 2 individuals there who basically said well you want get your deposit back due to their t&c. So I’ve lost £196!
