Disgusting company who made a mistake and blamed us. Thousands of lots purchased a year at auction. Wouldn't recommend this company to anyone and we have dealt with most of them.
I sold some rare photographs worth hundreds through this auction house with no issues. Seems to me that all the poor reviews relate to buyers who have purchased a box of stuff without knowing what it... Voir plus

AVOID - donate to charity instead
To give ur money away for no return donate to charity then you'll be helping someone in need not buying another yacht for this lot.
Bought what was supposed to be a carpet cleaner but I received a worthless pile of plastic in a box.
No response from William George when I tried to return my box of plastic.
AVOID, zero customer service after purchase
Very forthcoming and responsive to emails before buying pallets but after they arrived and I informed them of missing items, they literally just ignored me. It's been 1 month and no reply from Hannah or their managing director Robin Gray. Shocking customer service, would highly avoid.
Also as others say, the items are totally useless even though they are marked as returns. All broken, bashed and missing parts. The items that would've been fine will be damaged in transit as thrown in pallets, evidenced by the bottom items being smashed.
Still await a reply from Robin Gray despite informing him the staff are ignoring me.
Scam - avoid
Its hard to understand what the business model of this company is, if it isn't just to rip people off by selling faulty electrical items in bulk. I understand that in the terms and conditions it references that it cannot be guaranteed items won't be faulty - but they can pretty much guarantee every item IS faulty as they are all returns that are made entirely due to them being faulty. Hard to understand why John Lewis etc would be a part of this scam.

Zero stars if I could
Zero stars if I could. Never again! Raw customer returns absolute garbage that should have been put in the bin, really!!!! Everything was either broken, ripped, awful, awful, awful! 100 items of junk. £400 down the drain. Do not be tempted, this stuff is rubbish.

They wrote that it is important to them that all goods are packed in bags, but they do not care at all what kind of junk is put in those bags. A kilo of their rubbish cost me £15.13. That's a lot of money for damaged goods. To get rid of them, I took them to a thrift store and they wouldn't buy them from me even for 0.60p. This is a nightmare experience for me. It's a pity that I can't post pictures here, what I got from them.

I wish trust pilot had a zero or minus star as that is what id award the scurrilous deceitful crooked deceptive shady unprincipled William George auctions. They should be called William george landfil as all they sell is stuff fit for the dump!
Avoid at all cost, its too late for me, they've taken my money and in return i got a lump of old metal that once was a toaster, which they admit now - is broken and useless.
How they get away with this borderline thievery is beyond me.

Good to start with, but they got really bad.
They were good to start with but got really bad.
I have wond 2 auctions- both had kingsize beds on the pallets as well as another item.
Both beds arrived not complete- one was missing half of it and the other was only 30% complete. It looks to me as retailer is dividing those large items in 2 or 3 pieces and then sells them on a 3 different pallets, each time describing as a king size bed.
Sadly won't be coming back.
Edit to answer the feedback.
It is unlikely the bed was returned because only half of it was delivered, as the half that got to me had clear signs of usage. The customer had to return the whole thing for the return to be accepted.

This company are currently working with Modmo to sell electric bikes having hosted multiple auctions. These bikes are old stock and having bought 4 they are all faulty with dodgy electronics and motors. multiple people have complained about these bikes but they are still selling them. I have reached out to the company as an urgent matter as they have another auction due to end in 2 days but no response.

Wish i read the reviews before buying
Wish i read the reviews before buying. Terms and conditions basically say you will probably receive broken and incomplete items so it was totally my own fault but do not buy anything marked as returns. I have to make a trip to the tip today. They sold me a tap which ended up being half of the insides of a tap - how id that allowed? And 3 broken (and obviously broken) electrical items. Avoid.

William George Modmo Bike
William George Auctions
Modmo bike
I bought two Modmo bikes from William George via bidspotter.
They were auctioned off by William George and I was happy at the price £500 each, plus auction fees plus shipping.
The bikes were shipped within a few days, all good so far.
After only 30km, the electrics on one bike went wonky, causing the power shifter to not work.
I paid £80 to get it shipped back and a replacement was sent back after 10 days.
After 50km the replacement failed, differently this time. As did our other bike after only 35km.
The electric lights don't work and the batteries discharge after less than 24 hours. Something seriously wrong with the electrics. The fire safety aspect of a full battery discharging in this time very worrying.
I contacted both William George and Modmo with my experience and they waffled and made vague promises.
As the bikes were sold as new, I am entitled to a refund as they are not fit for purpose.
Jade at William George agreed and this is where it all started to go wrong.
I was asked to prepare the bikes for collection, which I did.
They have persistantly used every delaying technique possible to (a) not collect the bikes (b) not provide a refund
I am now in the situation where I am commencing a small claims through the courts.
My experience: Do not buy a Modmo bike, do not deal with William George.
There are currently another 50 Modmo bikes on Bidspotter, due up in a few days. I raised this as a serious concern to William George, that they are knowingly selling faulty goods (which in itself is illegal).
They did not reply to this statement.
Edit
------------------------
Update 4th May 2024
Thery finally agreed to have my bikes returned for a refund.
It took a week for Modmo arrange delivery. Then, because they raised improper paperwork with the courier it took another week from collection to actual delivery.
Full refund received.
I still stand by my thoughts of Modmo knowingly selling faulty goods.

Extortionate - Avoid At All Costs
My first experience using online auction houses and my last. If you’re a novice like me please be aware and BEWARE!. What the hammer price is, is only the start of what you’ll end up paying out to these guys.
I bid and won a rare vinyl test pressing, hammer drop price £600. Invoice arrived from auction house for £787 (almost £200 on top of my winning bid of £600).
Needless to say I was a bit miffed, thinking the £187 on top was a bit extortionate. Anyway I committed to buy and paid up. Thought I was finished. No such luck. I was next contacted by seller asking for another £20.00 (£19.99) to post the vinyl to me (we live in the same town). I thought the £787.00 would at least include the p&p costs. Talk about bleeding you dry. These guys are greed personified.
Ended up paying almost £1000 for a pressing, rare though it is, but nowhere near the value I ended up paying for it.
Had I searched the internet the same pressing was on another site Buy It Now for £550 (ebay) and the p&p was included in the Buy It Now price. I feel like I just got taken to cleaners
I hope when I eventually get the vinyl it will be in the condition described. After reading other reviews on here I’m not feeling very confident about that. Just Beware of buying from online auction houses! Especially this team.
PS: It did say something on the listing there would be 29% (something close to that) l didn’t take much notice of it because it wasn’t highlighted enough. And I assumed it was for the seller not the buyer.
I’ve only watched TV programme auction rooms (can’t see why these are any different) and it’s ALWAYS the seller who pays the auction house fees, not the buyer.
The presenter always reminds the seller of that.
That’s why I assumed it was seller information not intended for the auction winner. That said 30% + VAT added on Hammer price is extortionate. And double what auction houses charge (the seller). Extortion. There’s no other word for it. Bid at your own risk ⛔️

AVOID AT ALL COSTS - MODERN DAY PIRATES
What was bad TP asks: well where do I start, everything from when I received the pallet of 'used goods'. It's all been a costly learning experience, with I hope someone else doesn't ever have to go through. These reviews are here for a reason, I should have done my research first, lesson learned!
The items I had sent to be, by a lovely courier, were only suitable for the skip and should have never been placed online for people to waste their money on. Maybe if they had shown the actual images (2nd red flag I missed) then people would have been so misled.
Customer service from H is all about saying the right things and starting the emails like he/she knows or even cares about you. Then you get the company blurb about T&C's and oh, 'have a good evening'.
Buying items that are classed as used is one thing H but household goods that are that terrible I was embarrassed for you and your company. How anyone would have the gall to list something that has food still stuck to it, is rusty, moldy/smashed/cracked/dented/missing parts, you name it. My 'winning lot' had it all. I did provide a few images, and had plenty more, but alas H didn't want to see them, wonder why?
PLEASE learn from my stupid and naive first-time bidding, never mind winning, and DO NOT waste your money with these charlatans. You might as well get your the money out of your purse/wallet and stick it on a BBQ, preferably one that flipping works and not one from these con artists. Don't bother responding H as I can't take any more verbal, I am putting this down to a very expensive lesson learnt - BEWARE FOLK

❌DO NOT TRUST THEM ❌
Absolute con men! Brought a lot of wedding dresses. Described as tried on but good. 1 of the dresses was a totally different design to what had been listed, another had thick black marks all over it. Stated that the items were not as described! Fobbed off for days and basically told tough luck! Just like to point out your own terms state items to be as described!
