DO NOT TRUST THIS BRAND OR COMPANY

I have 3 Windmill window a/c units, I was one of their very first customers when they came onto the scene for window a/c units. All 3 of them have broken and now Windmill has changed their policy in terms of repair and replacement for their broken units. The fact that all 3 of my units have broken is a warning. The first one was leaking fluid within the first 6 months, the second one stopped working completely after 1 year, and the 3rd one stopped working after 3 years. DO NOT BUY. DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY. They do not care about their clients, and they will not repair broken units. I have reached out to the BBB and Windmill doesn't even address or respond to any negative feedback about their company.

$400+ Windmill AC Became Useless After 2 Years

Just a heads-up for anyone considering a Windmill AC unit: I’d recommend looking elsewhere. My unit, purchased in 2023, developed a control board failure that made it completely unusable — it started randomly changing settings on its own.

After going through troubleshooting with Windmill support, they confirmed the control board had malfunctioned but said it was outside their warranty period. Their only solution was to offer a $150 credit toward buying a replacement unit, which felt disappointing given the short lifespan of the original.

Suspicious support from Windmill

I have had the same experience as Steve Gray, the Windmill product I had stopped working efficiently after two months or so and when contacted about the issue they just send a replacement rather than looking into changing anything about their faulty devices. I tried using it again the following summer after sitting in storage and it still had the same issue without any sort of update to their software or device functionality. It also leaked condensation inside rather than dripping out the back. I ended up just taking the loss, buyer beware.

Windmill AC Died in Under 2 Months — Support Dragged It Out for Over 2 Weeks

I purchased the 12K BTU Windmill AC from Best Buy in late May 2025. After working for about six weeks, it began shutting off every 5–10 minutes and never cooled properly again. Right before a brutal heat wave, it completely failed — and that’s when the real nightmare began.

I contacted Windmill support immediately and provided everything they asked for: serial number, receipt, installation photo, room dimensions (500 sq ft), and confirmation that I had tried their reset steps. I was told the issue would be escalated and I’d hear back within 24–48 hours.

What followed was more than two weeks of delays, repeated requests for the same information, and zero meaningful help. They kept asking if the room was really 500 sq ft (yes, four times now), and insisted I send a video of the unit “not working,” even after I had to uninstall it and replace it just to keep my family cool. It’s hard to film a broken product that does nothing.

Eventually, I gave up, filed a chargeback with my credit card company, and replaced the unit myself. Windmill’s final response? Closing the case and accusing me of being disrespectful — after two weeks of me begging them to honor their warranty while roasting in 90+ degree heat.

This company does not stand behind its products. Their support system is slow, repetitive, and clearly designed to wear you down until you stop asking for help.

Avoid Windmill at all costs. If something goes wrong — and judging by other reviews, it often does — you're on your own.

Love all my products

I love my two window AC units and just got the purifier which I also love. The window units are amazing, they cool the bedrooms so quickly which I love because I like to sleep in a very cold room. They're super quiet and look amazing which is important to me. I've noticed my energy bill is much lower as well. The purifier is great, my kitchen never smells like food and I rarely sneeze, usually this time of year I have allergies. Big fan of their products!!

Awesome company and products

I bought a Windmill AC and Windmill Air Purifier recently, and both products are amazing. They're high-quality, do their job well, and I love the look and the fact that i can control both from the app. Also, I had questions for their customer support team before purchasing and they were very responsive and helpful. 5 star experience all around

Quality all around

This team stands by what they designed and built… don’t see a lot like that anymore. Happy with the window air conditioner overall. It’s the best window AC I’ve had in years (my last one quit on me when I reinstalled it for the spring).

Mine broke after 1.5 years

Mine broke after 1.5 years. Maybe it’s planned obsolescence, maybe it’s just a piece of junk. Not very eco friendly like they’d leave you to believe; instead their products are unrepairable after just a short time. Mine reads an E2 message and customer service already gave me their sincerest apologies. Sincerely, I will be haunting them on tiktok, instagram, and youtube so that they never know a moment’s peace. There’s just no excuse for making crappy products that wind up in landfills.

Doesn’t cool my 120 sq

Doesn’t cool my 120 sq. feet room. If you set Eco mode it will turn off far from temperature you set to keep. Any other AC in my life was better and more effective. Pros end with desing. Nothing else

Do not buy

This is a garbage product with possibly even worse customer service. They claim to be a small family-run business, constantly asking for 5-star reviews. Meanwhile, they're a venture-backed company and their AC craps out immediately after the warranty (1 year) ends. Their team apparently as no insight or information as to the connectively and technological issues at hand.

They should do right by existing customers with the money they've raised and make a product that lasts instead of pushing people to buy disposable units. Extremely wasteful - especially since they encouraged donating my old unit and aren't offering any assistance getting rid of their piece of trash currently in my window.

I have had other units last 5+ years. For the price of a Windmill, it's certainly not worth it. Buy anything else.

Avoid Company

I don’t quite know where to start. From the first start up, the unit shakes so much for a brief moment when the compressor turns on that it rattles against the window loud enough to wake me from a dead sleep despite requiring 7 screws directly into your window and frame. I had to add additional support below and on the sides to stop it from shaking on startup.

One of its biggest selling point, the inverter, also somehow results in the unit running so slowly that it sounds like someone is playing a bass tone on a subwoofer throughout my apartment (only noticeable to those sensitive to sounds).

The front panel is warped and held on by weak magnets meaning it also rattles if not put in place JUST right. It’s super quiet other than that…

The carbon filter is a joke. It takes up about 10% of the entire intake and a brief smoke test showed almost all air was pulled from around the filter.

The firmware is not even currently on version 1.0 and it shows. It requires a Windmill account for any functionality (most WiFi enabled ACs do but it’s another relatively new, unproven company hoarding your data).

It doesn’t maintain previous settings such as cool vs eco, set temp, or fan speed on startup. Similarly, night mode only stays on for one night at a time and is buried deep in the settings that are not intuitive to find. Why not just put the slider on the main page taken up by 50% advertisements for your local utility company?

Not sure if the unit is at fault or the app is bad but it tends to hover about 5 degrees above where it’s set in app. With the app’s energy meter, you can see it actively NOT using the full capacity despite also not being anywhere close to the set temp.

While the energy meter should be a cool feature, anything other than the real time readout is hilariously inaccurate with my unit using 500 watts for 3 hours straight and then reporting an average of 287 watts over that same time period.

Every encounter I’ve had with this company including the app, customer service, and the unit itself shows that this is just another tech startup with too large a marketing budget. I’d never recommend this company or AC to anyone.
