My Parents are both currently at Bourley Grange and from my first call to them both settling in they have been professional, diligent, patient and caring and all the staff are friendly and all do a fantastic job . They put the elderly people they care for at the centre of everything they do with patience and empathy. The management are relaxed straight forward and communicate with the families of the loved ones they are caring for in an exemplary manner at all times.
Previous employee in Birmingham….. the management are horrendous. They do not CARE about their staff or their residents. It’s so cloak and dagger, a closed door policy; they don’t talk to you, they talk down to you.
My time there made me unwell, I have never experienced such a hostile environment to work in and I’ve worked in a variety of settings during my working life.
There is no support when reporting managers to a higher level as they are all friends outside the workplace. I feel sorry for the residents and current employees…. It needs a complete overhaul and managers that actually care

I was an employee and a dreadful place to work. Management do not care about staff or residents and the care is poor due to lack of staff. I would urge people not to use as a home for a loved one or work for them

The first thing that hits you as you walk through to the hallway of the residential quarters in a U.K. care home is the stench of urine. It’s so strong you might mistake your whereabouts for the back alleys of some sort of crack neighbourhood.
The carpets are filthy and there’s very little privacy with sharing bathrooms dorm style at the age of 80 for the grand annual fee of £85K a year.
I’m not sure what has gone on in the social care department of this country, I just know if I had a pet pig I wouldn’t commit it to such an environment.
Have always been aware that there is zero regard for old people in this country yet to spend your last days in such terrible conditions has got to be the height of cruel.
(visited two CARE uk homes for my mum in Richmond and Isleworth, the management and admin allowing this can’t blame staff, this is a top down issue) .

Worked for care Uk for 6 weeks. Never worked in care before, within my first week I was expected to give personal care to an end of life patient, I was not prepared for this nor had appropriate training given. Eventually got basic manual handling training 2 weeks in. My mum passed away 6 weeks into working there, within a week of her passing they were calling myself and my husband to find out when I was returning to work… no compassion! Management were awful, staff are just a number, and I was expected to work 4 x 12 hour shifts on the run!
Care??? You got to be kidding!!

My Mother is in the Halstead Care UK home in Dame Mary Walk, Halstead. I am disgusted to hear that my mother asked a care nurse that she needed to go to the toilet, to be told that she has had to do it in her knickers/nappy because the staff do not have enough toilet hoists in the home!! This is DISGUSTING! You wouldn’t leave an animal in its own waste! My Mother feels SO degraded that she is being told to do this! This is the first time I have heard of this! This home is not cheap so if you are thinking of putting your loved one here think again!!! I will complain to Social Care Ombudsman about this!!

I am an employee for Oakland care and my role is Head of Housekeeping at Elmbrook Court Care Home in Wantage, Oxfordshire. This is the most friendly place I have worked. We are one big family and all department's help each other to maintain the residents are happy and well cared for. I look forward to going to work and each day is different. For anyone looking for a career in a care home, I would highly recommend it. Debra Fenn
I would like to thank Care UK main office for all their help and assistance in helping me find a new nursing home for my husband, Their support and help was invaluable. Nothing was to much trouble. I was at my wits end in trying to find a home that would not only meet his needs but be a 'home' not a docking station to die in. Thank you. He is now at Buchanan court where the staff are friendly, his room light and bright, and he actually smiled for the first time in over three three years. thank you
Our recent experience of a Care UK, Care Home resulted in us removing our loved one within 3 months. Expensive 3rd rate care in our opinion.
DIABOLICAL!! My aunt was removed from a Care U.K. home, Wellmeadow Lodge in Glasgow due to complete neglect. After multiple investigations by the authorities, Wellmeadow Lodge was closed down. Care U.K. said it was because the building was unsuitable. They, of course, didn’t mention the several cases of criminal neglect and complete negligence of the entire organisation. Unfortunately neglect is systemic in many care homes.
Thank you Sherwood Grange care home. You've kept my aunt safe and happy. Good quality care and friendly team with a real focus on activities make all the difference, especially during this difficult time.
It’s a “NO” from me.
Care UK literally pampers “bully”-like environment.
Unsafe place to work. Whistleblower several times; been comepletly ignored. Avoid at all cost.
My mother was a resident in care at a Care UK specialist dementia care unit home here in my home town of East Grinstead in West Sussex UK. She was there and visited by myself regularly as her younger son, from December 2018 to December 2019, when I had discovered her whereabouts then revealed to me. As Social Services and the care home staff failed to alert me to my mother's having been committed there under Social Services order. I found out by someone whistle blowing her presence there. I had very mixed experiences of visiting my mother there. With repeated refusal at first by either Social Services staff or the care home management to acknowledge I was legitimately her son. And even making it difficult for me in my attempted visits there to attempt to see my mother, once I discovered her location there. With my brother acting in lie to all, regarding my mother both her condition to myself and to Social Services, and her whereabouts to me especially. All the time she was in the care home my elder brother was giving false misleading information to Social Services and the care home, regarding contesting her presence there. Stating he believed she was being kept there against his will and her own will. And should be returned to his care at home which was inadequate for her needs in the high degree of suffered dementia. Where she needed twenty four hour specialist care only a home could provide. However in my regular visits I encountered observed, a pattern of repeated bad practices at the care home. I tried to raise concerns of these with the staff and the management. After Social Services refused to assist me in logging an official registered complaint over their care and the falling short provided Care UK care. Some of the girls in charge of my mum were admittedly very capable carers. I appreciated all they tried to do for both my mum and myself. Even providing me photos of my mum both before and following her passing. However managers in meetings were accusatory and opposed my finding out anything to do with my mum's care. Refused to assist me where I encountered lies and deception from two male staff members there. Who attempted to stir up troubles between myself and my brother in telling tales of his visits there to see my mother. Informing me of accused bad behaviour by my brother. I raised these things being told to me with managers and was refused hearing. Even though they could see I was disturbed and upset with things these two staff members were telling me. Management refused to assist and investigate. They then began to lie about me themselves. Saying I had tried to create a scene at front desk on my way out in my having asked for a head office address to send complaint to, as they were refusing to assist me or put my mind at rest in my experienced problems encountered trying to see my mother at the care home. I now felt I could not visit my mother there safely without bringing a witness friend with me wherever I attended afterwards. My mother sadly passed away on May 22nd 2020. As it was Carona lockdown I had been unable to visit her there in recent months. As had been myself ill earlier in the first part of 2020 before the virus appeared. At the time of my illness into Jan to Feb I obviously was not going to visit the home so as not to affect my mother's or any other residents health. So then after that the home went into lockdown for the virus, and I could not visit at all up to the time of her death. They rang me the day before advising I urgently visit her as they thought she might not make it through the night. It was already nearly evening, and I was told by text by a staff member I knew myself from my church who worked there as a carer for my mother, that she was now asleep. I didn't want to disturb her and the staff member thought my mum would be ok till next morning when I had booked permission for urgent visit to possibly have to see her maybe for last time, to say goodbye if she thereafter soon was to pass on, dying. I booked an early morning visit giving time extra for their anti virus protections to be followed before I saw her. But sadly I was rung up again very early the following morning to tell me that my mum had died sometime in the twenty or so minutes before the call. I never got a chance to say goodbye and that I loved her. The Care Home failed in my requests to be put through them in contact with whoever was to take over as her Social Services care case officer during time of my visits to see her. Failed to pass on details as promised me on the phone to the company doing the funeral arrangements. I never got the chance to go to her funeral. Was deliberately excluded from subsequently doing so by my brother and the funeral services company locally. Francis Chappell and AG Rice. I'm very bitter at the way I was treated by the Social Services locally. By the Care Home management too
My mum was in care at tiltwood cobham. She was wearing a lovely ruby necklace which they acknowledge seeing when she was in respite, however denied seeing it when she became a resident you would think this was the case however they took photos of her wearing the necklace even though they say they didn't remember it. It was subsequently disappeared. Is this the way to treat someone with dementia. Shame on you
Left care uk as bad employer.....manager doesnt have clue how too manage. Came up with all these ideas but never followed up on them. When home was severly hit with covid, manager was more concerned with who brought into home and not catching it herself than her staffs health well being. Staff leaving left right centre due too poor management and zero support. Literally no bank staff too cover shifts so ran short. Theres no confidentiality within home I worked in. Even residents knew confidential stuff. As for care of residents. When run constant short staffed or with incompetent staff, residents dont get care paying for. Food is abysmal. Paying £1200 week for sausage rolls baked beans?????
