Took an old but cherished bike in for overdue service and overhaul. Excellent customer service from all the staff I met. Lee's recommended replacement wheels exactly as described and good value. Abi very patient and knowledgeable, provided accurate assessment for improved pedals. All workmanship to a high standard leaving bike better than it was when new. Minor issue investigated and resolved after follow up visit. I wouldn't take the bike anywhere else.

I've spent 6 month's looking for someone to repair my Kalkhoff bike. I lost count the amount of phone calls to other bike repair shops! Fortunately Miles was able to give me the confidence to travel 70 miles to see if he could repair my bike. Within a couple of hours I received a call saying a new motor was required. Within another 2 hours I was riding down the road with a smile on my face. Thank you to all at David Mellor cycles but especially Miles

We regularly take our bikes.. ebike, cyclo cross and road bike ... in for servicing. The service is always quick, friendly and professional. Young Ewan is especially efficient and helpful.

Your reply speaks volumes about your true character, again trying to deflect all responsibility onto your critic. Regarding the tiresome situation you don’t have to look any further than yourself (maybe some self reflection would do you good), you’re the one repeatedly hiding my review. I am merely talking a bit louder to be heard.
Again your staff member never gave any explanation for not carrying out the work, just we are not doing it, over and over again. I did over react and I have apologised for that. I did not get any apology from you for calling me a criminal and questioning my safety on the road (which was totally unfounded and malicious)
My bike is just as safe as any other bike on the road, it is legal and limited to 15mph.

Dear Vishnu Universe, Simon, Starman, Vinu or whichever of your many personalities you are using today. We told you at the time and have told you many times previously with your fake reviews, we will not tolerate abuse to our staff and you were asked to leave our store. It's lovely that you are showing the online community your true self but it's getting tiresome now. We hope you can get help with your problems some place else but we do not service dangerous electric bike conversions.

BE WARNED if anything goes wrong with the bike you have bought or had work done on it, they will not take any responsibility it will be all your fault.(just look at the reviews and that will be the case)

My bike is legal it’s limited to 15mph (you should ask and not presume).
No explanation was given for not doing the work, so your reference to not working on illegal bikes (which is also wrong) is totally erroneous, that was the reason I reacted like I did (unfortunately) as it was like talking to a stuck record.
Maybe you should look at your staff training
You didn’t even explain why you don’t work on e-bike conversion bikes
You didn’t say sorry we cannot do the job, because etc
You didn’t offer a solution, you didn’t say here are the parts you need and this is some advice for fitting
Just “we won’t do it”, over and over again
All I wanted was my Bike Brakes repaired
It had nothing to do with electrics or electric wheel.
When the staff member is so dismissive, damn right insulting and rude
I reacted in the wrong way for which I apologise.
But it doesn’t change the fact that I was treated very poorly
Shame on you and your staff for being snobbish and judgmental about e bike conversions.Not everyone can afford an e-bike .
How dare you make a judgement on how safely I ride my bike, the conversion is legal, it is limited to 15mph. I have been riding for over 40 years and I am considerate to other road users and ride safely. It would be nice to have some brakes so that I can enjoy riding again.

Dear Vishnu. We will not tolerate abusive and aggressive behaviour towards our staff. You were told we do not work on, or approve of, illegal and dangerous ebike conversions. You became abusive and started swearing at one of our mechanics and were asked to leave.
We sincerely hope the local police crack down on illegal and dangerous conversions before you hurt someone.

Dear Vishnu or Simon. Thank you for your apology. Legal or not, we do not work on ebike conversions as we said.
Bicycles are not built to withstand the extra power of motors and we consider them dangerous. One only has to look at the proliferation of bikes going at 30mph plus around our streets to realise there is a major problem and we will not work on conversions which are unsafe. It's not snobbish, we don't sell them, we don't repair them and the many reports of fires from illegal ebike imports should give a clear indication of why we don't. Thank you.

Amazing customer service from Abi at DM Cycles. She went out of her way to find me the correct part for my bike despite me giving her little information to go on (I couldn't read the frame number on my bike or any code on the bearing I needed replacing) and was friendly and understanding throughout.

Terrible service
Refused to repair brakes because I had a electric conversion kit
Didn’t offer any advice on how I could repair myself, or the best thing to do or where I could take it
Just flat NO! on repeat like a broken record.

Then in his response he accused me of breaking the law. Accusing me of using an illegal conversion kit (if he'd of asked rather than presumed, I could advise that my kit was legal and authorised for use in UK) and questioning my safety on the road (wishing that I would be arrested by police). Shameful behaviour.

Don't go here if you want any kind of service, go here if you want s supercilious, rude experience (then this shop is 5 Star)

Such a fantastic bike shop! I was immediately welcomed, and shown directly to the bikes I was after within minutes, such a friendly staff, not remotely pushy, happy to let me try as many bikes as needed to find the right fit. I ended up getting the absolute perfect sized bike and I am so happy with my purchase. Thanks very much!!!!

Another fantastic service from Dave Mellor Cycles (DMC). I asked for a complete bike build using a frame and components that I had acquired. On the appointed day I took everything to the shop, talked to the technician who was going to do the build, and confirmed all the parts were as expected. Was called during the build to confirm specifications. Picked up the bike later that day. Wow!! What a result. The bike looks absolutely stunning. The workmanship superb. The frame is 20 years old and the components are 30 years old but the result was amazing. Couldn’t be happier. Who needs a brand new bike when a classic can look just as awesome. Highly recommend DMC, top quality technicians and really helpful staff. All in all a great experience.

Bought online 28/12/2024 pair of high value winter Fizik Artica X5 cycling shoes. Bit worried by the scam review which I reckon is totally undeserved. Shoes delivered by royal mail 3 days later. Careful packaging, perfect product at the right price (Boxing Day Sale). Very Happy with this store and for me I would HIGHLY recommend. Brought my e-bike in due to an error I couldn’t fix, they told me I can leave my bike, earliest they could get me in was in a week, so I left it there.
10 minutes later I get a call saying they fixed it!! I can’t thank you enough! Your all amazing thank you!

Don’t believe Dave’s response below, Royal Mail didn’t have a photo of my door open, as per their own policy. I had to re buy the product elsewhere and have solicitors preparing court documents to sue Dave Mellor for the money back, plus costs. They completely scammed me

I made a telephone call to check stock of what I believe to be a hard to find set of mudguards. I wanted to check stock levels before I made my internet order from Glasgow. Chris was very helpful and checked stock and called me back within 15 minutes to say they had it. Very helpful and polite. Happy days ;0)

Thank you for sending the Easton ex-demo handlebars promptly and pointing out the blemish on them beforehand - very much appreciated. David

I would like to say first that I do not take leaving a 3 star review lightly on a small local shop like this as I know they rely on word of mouth and a good image. However I also think it is important I share my experience. The people there are all very friendly but the service I received was not great.

Firstly, when I brought my bike in I was quoted less than £50, but after a 3 day delay the total was £100, however they compensated the delay by charging £50. When my bike was being worked on I had to call in to give the mechanic instruction on what to do as he was planning to remove the bb when it didn’t need to be. When I collected my bike, all work was complete but there were grease marks on the white paint and all along the edges of the frame protection which I managed to remove but still not the best. There was also a stamp on the fork steerer that had been done by removing the paint which I did not want and I consider damage. I then returned to the shop less than a week later for an issue that I don’t believe is their fault. After fixing the issue, I noticed after my first ride on the bike that the fork was not installed correctly and was rattling in the frame. The headset now makes a clicking noise and I am concerned this may have lead to permanent damage to the frame or fork or at the very least the bearings I payed to be replaced on my second visit.

Once again I almost feel guilty for sharing my experience because I do not want this to negatively impact them but I feel it is important to share.

I got brilliant service from David Mellor Cycles when I mistakenly ordered some bib tights which weren't the ones I thought they were. Once I told them they sorted it out, ordered me the ones I really wanted (even though they didn't sell them) and sent them straight out to me. Everyone I dealt with was really friendly and helpful. I'll be more than happy to buy gear from them in future based on this experience.

Day 4 of LEJOG bent hanger, 10 days to go, no climbing gears - Arghhh! Dave Mellor cycles to the rescue - fixed hanger for me. Very very grateful. Thank you. Bike shop is beautiful, can’t recommend highly enough. 😁😁😁

Having visited a local bike shop that was poorly stocked with staff that were somewhat standoffish, it was a nice surprise, after driving to Shrewsbury, to be greeted by friendly staff when I purchased a new bike using the click and collect service, it wasn't entirely a surprise as their email communication conveyed friendliness. The shop is extremely well stocked, the staff have a warmth and enthusiasm that is rare nowadays. We are planning a return trip to Shrewsbury and shall call in to this shop while we are there for a more in depth look around, time was against us on our first visit. The shop prices aren't online prices, so you may pay slightly more, but if we don't support shops like these, one day we won't have any and will be left with the sterile environment of the internet where there's little expert advice, nowhere to have a real look and we are at the mercy of email. Thanks everybody.
