Drivalia UK - BELFAST INTL AIRPORT Avis 

Awful service. They are using Booking.com policies to cancel delayed collection so they charge 3 times the price and give you what car they have available. I'd expect much more from a company than hide and not take responsibility. Also, when I complaint I was dismissed that they are nothing they can do. Again, not listening properly or trying to be acocunable!

Poor. We dealt with a person named Aaron Livingstone. He was not unpleasant but very pushy regarding paying an extra fee to reduce the excess, should there be any damage to the car. He also immediately attempted to upgrade us to a larger, more expensive car saying that we had a lot of luggage ( We declined and he then gave the car that we had booked to another customer in order to keep us waiting as we didn't oblige - when we saw the car, everything fitted in nicely so clearly the larger car was not needed). We declined the insurance fee but he used fear tactics to attempt to entice us into purchasing an extortionate add-on. Fortunately, we followed him around while he took photos of the car and ensured we took the same photos. When dropping the car back, we sadly had to deal with the same person. He immediately told us that 'something had flagged' which we knew was an attempt to extort extra money from us (as we were VERY careful and KNEW that no damage had been caused, so this proves that their tactics were underhand). Fortunately, we showed him the photos we took and then he proceeded to inform us that all was well. I will NEVER use this company again (All people reading this please stick to the reputable companies such as HERTZ etc).

Booked via easyJet/CarTrawler for a family wedding trip to Belfast. At the Drivalia desk we got hit with two charges we weren't properly told about: £202.18 because we didn't have a credit card (only a debit card), and £72.01 for crossing from Northern Ireland into the Republic of Ireland, which was never mentioned at booking.

The credit card requirement was buried as one vague line in a long confirmation email ("a credit card... for deposit purposes") five months before travel. It only became clear it was mandatory, and that a debit card would be refused outright, in a reminder email 4 days before pickup. By then it was too late to sort out. The cross border charge wasn't disclosed anywhere before we got to the desk.

We weren't the only ones either. Three other families travelling for the same wedding were caught out by the exact same credit card issue on the same day. Looking at other reviews here, this seems to be a recurring pattern rather than a one off mistake.

It turned what should have been a straightforward pickup into a stressful, expensive start to an important trip.

If you're booking with Drivalia, read every line of every email closely, and call ahead to confirm exactly what card and documents you need. Don't just rely on the booking confirmation.

If you paid by debit card, ask your bank about a chargeback. If it's not resolved, small claims (MCOL) is an option for amounts like this.

RK made the process effortless when we picked the car up. You get offered the additional insurance to reduce your excess, but they are not pushy if you say no.
Will certainly be using them again and highly recommend them.

Firstly Drivalia pick you up at Belfast airport and drive for ten minutes to a rural location where you have no bearings of where you are. They then give you 4 options of excess/insurance from £200 to £300 or you can pay £1500 which is a holding fee. This holding fee can only be an option if you have a credit card. If you only have a Debit card like myself, the holding fee is not an option. They then hit you with a cross border charge that was never mentioned until you are stuck out in the rural location!!
A total scam. Avoid at all costs.

We rented a car for 10 days. We called in advance to make sure everything we needed was included. The person on the phone was very nice. When we arrived at the desk 3 guys where there, 2 at the desk and one supervising, we were offered alto change our contract to a full insured car which would only be about 300£ when our renting was about 260£ they kept on including things and saying it was just an extra … per day, making it pretty hard to follow the extra costs even know I kept asking for the full price. We then decided to keep our rental as we initially wanted it. The person at the desk went to speak with the manager, came back and made us a new offer. At this stage we were told it would only be around 380£ with all the extras if we both agreed on leaving a good review right there on both, trustpilot and google. By the end when I was asked to pay the price jumped to about 600£ but at that stage after all the talking I decided to just do it and be able to get the car and go.

We got an “upgraded” car which was very dirty inside and outside, petrol was not full. (My initial contract was a full full).

We managed to have a good trip and were unfortunated on the way back as we were driving to drop by the car a stone hit the windscreen and cracked it. Good we got the extra of the insurance after all but it was very misleading (on purpose) the way the adds on were mentioned also on he contract it doesn’t mention anything of what is included in the full peace of mind insurance which I think would be misleading in their advantage if needed.

I rent car very often and it can be overwhelming and they defo take advantage of it, even know the guys at the counter were nice, the system is made to make you pay extra.
