Awful Health and Safety
I have to agree with the other 1-star review.
We booked a private experience as there were 10 of us. We messaged beforehand and they sent us pictures of the boat, so we were really looking forward to it. A private boat sounded amazing.
Unfortunately, as soon as we got on the boat, the smell hit me first. The fumes were incredibly strong. I then noticed how dirty the boat was. The table still had sticky residue on it from the previous group, and overall, the boat looked nothing like the pictures we had been sent.
Despite being really disappointed, I tried to stay positive because we had paid a lot of money and had 5 children with us who we wanted to have a good experience. Things did improve slightly when we sat at the front of the boat, which was quite comfortable and had some lovely views.
Then it was time to swim in the ocean. I specifically asked if the captain could choose the safest spot as we had 5 children aged between 8 and 15. His response was, “the whole ocean…” which didn't fill me with confidence.
He then told us he only had 3 children's life jackets. This was extremely concerning. If there had been an emergency, one of the younger children wouldn't have had a life jacket. Thankfully, one of the children decided they didn't want to swim, otherwise we wouldn't have had enough for everyone.
When he lowered the ladder, he warned us about a sharp edge at the top. When I actually saw it, I couldn't believe it. There were multiple extremely sharp edges right where you naturally place your hands when getting in and out of the water. It was genuinely dangerous and could have caused a serious injury. In fact, earlier we had seen a man returning from an excursion with a large, bleeding gash on his leg, and I now wonder whether he had been injured by the same ladder.
My 15-year-old daughter is a very strong swimmer and was the first to jump in. As she jumped, she suddenly slipped and hit the water in a panic. Thankfully she was OK, but even for her, swimming back to the boat was extremely difficult because the current was so strong. She absolutely loves swimming in the ocean and is a real thrill seeker, but she got straight back out and didn't want to go in again.
I understand that boats can be slippery, but when we went down to the swimming area, you could actually feel the grime under your feet. When I mentioned this, I was told it was because the boat is always wet. That isn't an excuse for a boat that clearly needed a thorough clean and some basic maintenance.
My husband and I then decided to get into the water because I wasn't prepared to send my children in if I wasn't willing to go in myself. We had to carefully avoid the sharp edges at the top of the ladder, only to discover that the handrail you rely on was also extremely loose. There were screws missing, and the ones that were there were barely in and were loose.
The children didn't swim. They mostly dunked themselves into the water from the boat or held onto the side for a few seconds, it was impossible too as you would have been taken away. The current was moving incredibly quickly and, in my opinion, nobody should have been encouraged to swim in those conditions.
Even more concerning, before the children got into the water, we actually had to help two men who were struggling and take them closer to shore. So why would a captain and crew member then encourage families, including young children, to get into the same water?
At this point, the whole experience became extremely concerning. The boat was in poor condition, there were incredibly strong fumes, dangerous sharp edges, a loose handrail and not enough children's life jackets. I saw very little evidence of basic health and safety being considered.
We booked this expecting a private boat experience that would be enjoyable and safe for our family. Instead, we were left feeling that the safety of the passengers simply wasn't being taken seriously.
The pictures they send before booking are also not a true reflection of the boat you actually get.
I very rarely write reviews, but I genuinely felt that I needed to write this one. With 5 children on board, I would hate for another family to have a serious accident because these issues haven't been addressed.
Please think very carefully before booking with this company.
