Poor - Seek advice elsewhere
I instructed Helix Law in September 2026 for advice on a dilapidations claim brought against me by my former landlord. I paid £1,200 plus VAT for an initial review and advice. In my view, what I received did not justify that cost.
The advice I was given was, in substance, a restatement of the documents I had supplied and an opinion that the landlord's claim was significantly overstated. Both of those were the conclusions I had already reached before instructing them, and they were the reason I sought professional advice in the first place. I had expected to come away with a defensible figure I could put to the landlord in settlement. Instead I was told I would need to obtain further information from the landlord and independent expert input before that could be done. Steps I could have identified without paying for them.
I also found the service itself poor. When I telephoned for updates, the paralegal handling my file came across as abrupt, and I was left with the distinct impression that my calls were an inconvenience. That is not what you expect when you are paying an hourly rate for professional advice.
When I raised my dissatisfaction, the firm's position was that the agreed scope had been completed. It offered a discretionary reduction to £1,000 plus VAT, which tells its own story.
My advice to anyone considering this firm: be extremely clear at the outset about what you actually want to achieve and what their role will be, and insist on a call to agree the scope of work before you instruct. I was never offered one, and I believe that is where this went wrong. Personally, I would look elsewhere.
